Raymond A. Signs, Jr. St. Johns, MI Age 77, died Thursday May 2, 2002. He was born December 8, 1924 in Owosso, Michigan the son of Raymond A. and Geneva (Crane) Signs. He was a man of strong Christian faith and a retired engineer from Federal Mogul. Raymond enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. On October 27, 1951, he married Dorothy J. Loznak and she survives him. Also surviving are three daughters, Dr. Marla (Charles) Signs-Rehmann of Charlevoix, Christine (John) Signs-Warstler of Boyne City and Michelle (Sheldon) Parker of St. Johns; two sons, Raymond (JoAnn) Signs, III of Lansing and Eric (Stephanie) Signs of Bath; ten grandchildren, Alison & Jacob Warstler, Joe and Jenna Parker, Molly and Paul Rehmann, Max and Sam Signs and Ella and Milo Signs; and one sister, Blanche Lipovsky of Owosso. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Rae Signs and two sisters, Gwen Bush and Virginia Lutz. Funeral Services will be 1:30 P.M. Sunday, May 5, 2002 at Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Owosso with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Friday and Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Lansing City Rescue Mission. Catherine Caroline Fedewa, Westphalia, MI Age 82, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2002. She was born on October 28, 1919 in Westphalia, the daughter of Simon and Rose (Fandel) Rademacher. Mrs. Fedewa was a member of St. Mary's Church and the Christian Mothers, with these and her family being very important to her. She loved quilting and playing cards, but her specialty was baking bread and white sugar cookies. In Heaven she joins her husband, Aloysius; son, Denny; sisters, Dorothy Torok and Bernadine Anderson. Surviving are her 8 children, Romayne (Ivan) Lay, Bonnie Fedewa, Dale (Sherry) Fedewa, Larry (Jean) Fedewa, Randy (Cheryl) Fedewa, Ann Fedewa, Roy (Michelle) Fedewa, and Dean (Sherri) Fedewa; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; sisters, Esther (Gene) Brown, Virginia (Gib) Simon and Joan (Paul) Schaefer; brothers, Donald Rademacher, Ted (Bonnie) Rademacher and Roger (Alicia) Rademacher; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Verplanck and Rosalyn Coon; special friend, Sue Connelly; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a Special Thank You to Diane at Sparrow Hospital for all of her help. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 AM Friday, May 3, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday and Thursday. The Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 PM both days. Reverend Fr. William Joseph Koenigsknecht Reverend Fr. William Joseph Koenigsknecht, St. Johns, MI Formerly of Lansing, MI Age 90, died Sunday, April 28, 2002. Fr. Koenigsknecht was born March 4, 1912 in Fowler, MI, to Nicholas and Margaret (Thelen) Koenigsknecht. Fr. Koenigsknecht attended Sacred Heart Seminary College in Detroit and completed studies in Theology at Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Norwood, OH. He was ordained to the priesthood by the Most Rev. Joseph H. Albers on May 18, 1940. He was then appointed Chaplain to Resurrection Church in Lansing on June 5, 1940 until January 16, 1948; then serving St. Johns Catholic Church in Jackson from January 16, 1948 to July 19, 1949. On July 19, 1949, he was appointed Pastor of St. Therese Catholic Church in Lansing serving the parish from July 19, 1949 to August 7, 1967. Fr. Koenigsknecht also served as Pastor to St. Mary Catholic Church in Jackson and St. Peter's Catholic Church in Eaton Rapids before retiring June 30, 1982. Fr. Koenigsknecht was a devoted priest and his loss will be felt by all. Fr. Koenigsknecht was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leo, Arnold, John, and Mark; and sisters, Helen and Martha. Surviving are his brothers, Benno (Laura) Koenigsknecht of Jackson, Nicholas (Marge) Koenigsknecht Jr. of St. Johns, Frank (JoAnn) Koenigsknecht of Pentwater, Roman (Mary Ann) Koenigsknecht of Fowler; his sisters Louise (Jerry) Burns of Hubbardston, Rose Smith of Jackson, Susann Stump of Pewamo, and Agnes (Leon) Keilen of Westphalia; sisters-in-law, Nettie Koenigsknecht, Loretta Rademacher, Caryoln Koenigsknecht, and Mary Elizabeth Koenigsknecht; and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 1, 2002, 10:30 AM at St. Therese Catholic Church with the Most Rev. Carl F. Mengeling as Celebrant, Rev. Fr. William Koenigsknecht as homilist and other Priests of the Lansing Diocese concelebrating. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 12-3 and 5-8 PM at St. Therese Catholic Church where a Vigil service will be prayed at 8 PM. 'Rip' Schmitz, 74, of Westphalia, loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away April 28, 2002. He was born in Westphalia Sept. 30, 1927 the son of Michael and Regina (Feldpausch) Schmitz. Mr. Schmitz was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the St. Joseph's Society. He was preceded in death by grandchildren, Rebecca I. Badder and April C. Southwell; brothers-in-law, Jim Thelen, Frances Platte, Fred Bambrick, and David Hoover, Sr.; sister-in-law, Joyce Schmitz. Surviving are his wife of 48-1/2 years, Wilma; children, Susan (Gary) Ballard of Lansing, Raymond Jr. (friend Cindy) of St. Johns, Marie (Robert) Badder of Ionia, Connie (Jim) Southwell of St. Johns, Tony (Martha) of Pewamo, Craig (friend Roxanne) of Westphalia, Carl (Pam) of Portland, Denise (Mark) Droste of Westphalia, Dennis (Cindy) of Ionia, and Stephanie (Tom) Morgan of Grand Ledge; 29 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Frederick (Rose) Schmitz of Pewamo, Aloysius Schmitz of Muir, Edward (Joan) Schmitz and Michael (Hilda) Schmitz, both of Westphalia; sisters, Marjory Platte of Westphalia, Jeanette Thelen of Ovid, Wilma Bambrick and Alice Hoover, both of Lansing, Gertrude (Jerome) Schafer of DeWitt; several nieces and nephews. Esch and Martha (Hufnagel) Esch. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. He is survived by one son, Kevin Esch (Kathy) of Pewamo, four daughters, Stacy Miller (Thomas) of Pewamo, Nancy Wooden (Darwin) of Arizona, Beth Horning (Jack) of Hastings, Lisa Esch of Fowler, 8 Grandchildren, one sister, Marie Hengesbach (Alfred) of Eagle, two brothers, Julius Esch (Jane) of Whitehall and Paul Esch (Mary Ann) of Fowler. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Alice I. (Spitzley) Esch, sister and brother-in-law, Julianna and Roy Motz, brother, Joseph Esch. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 30, 2002 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Raymond Rademacher officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday 7-9 P.M. and Monday 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home with a Rosary on Sunday at 8:00 P.M. and Monday 3:00 and 8:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to The Parkinsons Foundation. Eileen M. Lowman, St. Johns Formerly of Lansing Eileen M. Lowman of St. Johns, formerly of Lansing, died Friday, April 26, 2002 at the age of 87. She was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada March 7, 1915 the daughter of Harel and Regina (Mannix) Schou. She was retired from Sparrow Hospital and the Michigan Secretary of State. Eileen formerly attended Immaculate Heart of Mary. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ira "Jack" Lowman and two brothers, Edward and Harel Schou. Eileen is survived by her daughters, Sandra J. (frank) Ciloski and Lynn M. Pugsley; five grandchildren, Scott (Melissa) Ciloski, Michelle L. Ciloski, Brian (Kelly) Ciloski, Christopher R. Pugsley and Katerina M. Pugsley; and one sister, Stella (Willard) Rohrbeck. As she lived life, Eileen continued giving in death by requesting that her body be donated to the Michigan State University Medical School. There will be no visitation or funeral services. The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks for the kind and compassionate care given Mom by the staff of Hazel Findlay Country Manor, Hospice for Clinton County, Fr. Dwight Ezop and the support and comfort of family and friends. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Robert L. Hodges, Sr., DeWitt Born December 11, 1931, in Lansing; died April 24, 2002, at the age of 70. Mr. Hodges was a veteran of the Korean conflict having served in the U.S. Air Force and had retired from the Lansing Fire Department in 1986 as Chief of Training. He was a very active member of Am Vets, the American Legion, the Lansing Labor Council, Visiting Nurses, and the Firefighters Local #421. Surviving are his wife, Doris Ann; 3 daughters, Debra (Jeffery) Gould, Linda (Bruce) Fech, and Barbara (Ted) Gibson; 3 sons, Robert Hodges Jr., Jeffrey (Helene) Hodges, and William (Jo Ann) Hodges; 12 grandchildren, Doris, Jeffrey, and Rosie Gould, Nick, Joe and Matt Fech, Andrea, Luke and Elizabeth Gibson, and David, Jessica, and Erika Hodges. Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 29, at 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin St., DeWitt, with the Rev. Rodney J. Kalajainen, of Redeemer United Methodist Church, DeWitt, officiating. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Lansing, with Military Graveside Services being provided by the V.F.W. Edwin J. Leyanna Post #671, DeWitt. Main St., DeWitt, 48820, in memory of Mr. Hodges. John M. Kingsley,Wacousta Age 68, passed away April 25, 2002 in Lansing, Michigan. Mr. Kingsley, graduate of Grand Ledge High School Class of 1952, was a retiree of the U.S. Air Force and served in Vietnam. John was also a retired employee of General Motors and co-owner of the Wacousta General Store. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Hoa; 3 sons, Michael (Pamela) of Bath, John (Melissa) of Lansing, Stanley (Breanna) of Mt. Pleasant; 3 daughters, Theresa (Lin) Andresen of Mesa, AZ, Christina Kingsley of Oklahoma City, OK, Monica (Richard) Allen of Suffolk, England; 12 grandchildren and one on the way; his father, Wilbur Kingsley; 1 brother, Dennis (Madilyn) of Grand Ledge; 2 sisters, Marjorie (Herb) of Mulliken, Connie (Richard) Dible of Grand Ledge.
