Lawrence G. Sexton Lawrence G. Sexton, St. Johns, died May 24, 2002 at the age of 91, from respiratory and cardiac complications at Sparrow Hospital. Larry was born on October 1, 1910, in Laingsburg, MI, was the eldest of two sons of Jay Wesley and Gertrude (Smith) Sexton, life long residents of Lansing, MI. Jay W. Sexton was the superintendent of Lansing schools for whom J.W. Sexton High School was named. Larry's brother Donald James Sexton died on July 2, 2001, at the Michigan Home for Veterans in Grand Rapids, MI. He was 88. Larry was a happy and friendly man who loved his country, his community and his family above all else. He graduated from Lansing Central High School, attended Michigan State University for two years and received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He met Elizabeth Agnes Phillips at a dance at the Lansing YWCA and they married on July 16, 1938, in Battle Creek, MI. She preceded him in death on October 18, 1997. His first job was selling steam traps door-to-door for a Detroit Company. His territory was the West Coast. He started his automotive career in Lansing, MI with the Oldsmobile Division of General Motors, where he was in charge of the Dynamometer lab. He moved to Muskegon, MI to take a position as Assistant to the President (Paul Johnson) of Sealed Power, and he was promoted to Plant Manager, St. Johns Division in 1947. He retired in 1973 after 33 years of service. Larry was a lifetime member of the St. Johns Rotary Club and a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Republican Party. He worked tirelessly for the local United Fund Campaign. Surviving are their three children, all born in Muskegon, MI: Jay Wesley Sexton II (Patty) Haslett, MI, Carolyn Ann Aldrich (Larry) Phoenix, AZ and Mary Elizabeth Barnette, St. Johns, MI. Larry has three grandchildren: Aaron Matthew Aldrich, an elementary school teacher, Flagstaff, AZ, Lacey Elizabeth Aldrich, a high school teacher, Phoenix, AZ and Andrea Clare Sexton, a middle school student, Haslett, MI. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 27, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church, burial at Reed Cemetery with Rev. Carol Floyd officiating. The family will receive friends, Sunday, May 26, 2002 from 5:00 -8:00 P.M. at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or Clinton Memorial Hospital. Edna M. Schaefer died May 23, 2002 at the age of 86. Born in St. Johns on January 31, 1916 the daughter of Robert and Emma (Houghten) Shaw. She graduated from St. Johns High School and Acme Business (L.B.U.) now Davenport College and retired as secretary of St. Joseph Catholic School after 13 years of service. She lived most of her life on their farm in Ovid Township. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Ladies Altar Society, Ovid-Duplain Library Club, Farm Bureau, a longtime 4-H leader, a volunteer at Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor and enjoyed gardening. Edna married Albert Schaefer in Lansing on August 5, 1939 and he preceded her in death on January 30, 1998. Surviving are two sons, James (Susan) Schaefer and Ronald Schaefer, both of St. Johns, three daughters, Margaret (Robert) Brantley of Okemos, Jean (James) Welsh of East Lansing, Kathy (Frank) Allbee of Midland, four grandchildren, Ryan and Michelle Welsh, Lori and Heather Flegel, one great granddaughter, Adeline, and one sister, Margaret "Peggy" Genter Cain of Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, two sisters, Vera Brown, Gladys Lynch, and one brother, Robert Shaw. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 5-8 P.M. Born April 26, 1954 in Lawrence, Kansas, Marilyn was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Chandler Merriott (1992). Surviving are 1 daughter, Christin Faccio of Lansing; 3 sons, Neil (fiancee, Kari Jaster) Faccio of Grand Rapids, Brian Faccio of DeWitt and Cory Faccio of Midland; fiance', Ron Morrison of Indianapolis, IN; parents, John and Marjorie Merriott of DeWitt; 2 sisters, Gayle Faris of MO and Jan (Mike) Williams of Grand Rapids; 4 nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, 10:00 AM at the Gorsline-Runciman DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt with Pastor Terry Williamson, officiating. Padgett, age 80 of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2002 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso, Michigan. He was a retired Machinist. Carl was born on April 2, 1922 in St. Johns, Michigan the son of Glen & Neva (Esther) Padgett. On February 10, 1943 he married Charlene Fleck in St. Johns, Michigan. She passed away in 1976. He served his Country in the US Navy in WWII. Carl was a Member of American Legion Post #153 in St. Johns, and he was also a Member of the Fowler VFW Post #3733. He enjoyed hunting and trap & skeet shooting. He resided most of his life in St. Johns. He is survived by 2 daughters, Margaret & Bruce Hyler of St. Johns, Jeanne & Neil Yeomans of Higgans Lake, 5 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 2 sisters, Shirley Bailey of Bud Lake, Mary Lou Joonase of Canada, 1 brother, R.V. Born February 20, 1914 in Vernon Township, Michigan the son of Eugene and Martha (Sharp) Vincent. He farmed in Ovid until 1976 when he retired to McCain Lake in Byron and later moved to Laingsburg in 1990. Gerald married Loretta Donahue October 8, 1940 and she preceded him in death August 11, 2001. He is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Kathy) Vincent and Earl (Noreen) Vincent of Ovid, three daughters, Jean (Kenneth) Durham of Ovid, Grace Kares of Laingsburg and Shirley (Robert) Walker of Evanston, Wyoming, 15 grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and one brother, Cecil Vincent of Durand. In addition to his wife, Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, one son-in-law, Doug Kares, three grandchildren, Elaine Thomas, Infant Durham and Donald Walker, four brothers, Silven, Carl, Guy and Harold Vincent and one sister, Ellen Frazer. She was born in Bronson, MI on April 17, 1905, the daughter of Warren and Emma (Spade) Whitney. She was a former J.C. Penney, Lake's Jewelry, & Harr's Jewelry employee, a member of the First Congregational Church for 68 years and a life member of the Radiant Chapter of O. E. S. #79. Glema married Willard Paul Sousley in November, 1922, in Orland, IN and he preceded her in death on July , 1982. Surviving are one son, Howard (Dorothy) Sousley of St. Johns; one daughter, Phyllis (John) Anderson of Suttons Bay; five grandchildren, Michael Anderson and Phillip Anderson, both of Suttons Bay, Karen (Allen) Gleason of Cedar, Sandra (William) Buyak of Dimondale, and Scott Sousley of Lansing; seven great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Elizabeth "Bette" Madeline Kruger Elizabeth "Bette" Madeline Kruger, Grand Ledge Mrs. Kruger passed away Sunday evening, May 26, 2002 at home after an extended illness at the age of 84. Bette was born the daughter of the late Will and Myrtie (Howe) Kebler, October 7, 1917 in Grand Ledge. She worked for many years in Lansing for Consumers Power Company, after her marriage to Fred L. Kruger of Muir in 1945, they purchased the family farm in the area. As working partners, they ran a dairy and raised their family. Bette was an avid reader, piano player, concertgoer, and until recent years, horseback rider. After raising her family she returned to work at Spartan Village School at MSU, where she retired after 13 years. She is survived by her beloved husband Fred, sister Geneva Wiskemann of Lansing, daughters; Patricia (Derrill) Coger of Auburn and Suzanne (Gordon) Cornwell of Traverse City; 5 grandchildren, Marcella (Brook) Fisher of W. Palm Beach, FL, Stacey (Andrew) Hasse of Traverse City, James (Dulcie) Rice of Grand Ledge, Wesley (Sheri) Cornwell of Traverse City, and Sarah Cornwell of Marquette; 7 great-grandchildren, Andrew Cornwell, Nicholas Tafelsky, Maya Kedmi, Emily Hasse, Tyler Cornwell, Blake Fisher, and Garrett Rice. She was a homemaker and Former Administrator at Maple Valley Nursing Home for 22 years. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 30, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Jean was born on March 26, 1922 in Brant, Michigan, the daughter of Harry D. & Edith (Yoemons) Moore. She graduated from Owosso College. On December 31, 1940 she married Reno Wolfe in Chesaning, Michigan. She was a member of Ashley Wesleyan Church and was a volunteer for the Red Cross and Carson City Hospital. She resided most of her life in the Ashley area. She is survived by her husband, Reno Wolfe of Ashley, 2 daughters, Shirley & Bill Kellogg of Owosso, and Kathryn & Marshall Morris of Ashley, 1 son, Carl & Marilyn Wolfe of Ashley, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 2 brothers, Norman Moore of Chesaning, and Glen Moore of Mobile, AL. Guillermo Jr. "Junior" Trevino Guillermo Jr. "Junior" Trevino, DeWitt, Loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, age 43, passed away at home Monday, May 27, 2002. Born September 8, 1958 in Lansing, the son of the late Guillermo, Sr. and Juanita (Martinez) Trevino. Despite his illnesses, Junior never stopped helping family and friends, putting their needs above his own. He thoroughly enjoyed his family and friends and lived life to it's fullest each and every day. Junior was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Richard Wilbur. Surviving are his wife of 12 years, Julia; son, Thomas Richard Trevino; siblings, Antonio (Cindy) Trevino, Juanita (James) Bopp, Ophelia (Eric) Rose, Olivia (Jim) Cowley, Sylvia (Michael) Trevino, Otilia Trevino, Odelia (Jose) Garcia and Rafael (Christina) Trevino; brother-in-law, Thomas Craig Wilbur; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Wilbur; 22 nieces and nephews, 21 great nieces and nephews also survive. Hope Ave., where a Vigil service will be held Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. Richard Dale Albaugh died May 22, 2002 at the age of 75. He was born in Ovid on December 3, 1926, the son of Clayton and Anna (Curtis) Albaugh. He retired from Magnetek as Maintenance Supervisor and formerly worked at Ovid Oil, Ovid Public Schools and Swartzmiller Lumber. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and enjoyed hunting and yard work. Richard married Norma Buck on August 18, 1951 and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2002. Surviving are his son, Terry L. Albaugh of Owosso, granddaughter, Shelbi Albaugh of Shepherd, MI and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers, Larry Albaugh and Homer Albaugh and three sisters, Aletha McCreery, Thelma VanValkenburg and Edna Bashore. She is survived by five sisters, Ann & Harold Martin of Dewitt, Emily & Fred Sykora of St. Johns, Sue Smeltzer of Middleton, Judy Skea of St. Johns, and June Toth of St. Johns, also eight nieces & nephews. Dorothy resided most of her life in Chicago, Illinois, moving to Michigan in 1985. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Belva H. (Robinson) Howe, Grand Ledge, MI Age 86, passed away May 23, 2002 in Lansing, MI. She was born in Clinton County, MI, on October 13, 1915, the youngest child of Fred A. and Blanche (VanTassel) Robinson. Belva was a graduate of St. Johns High School and Clinton County Normal; attended Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant and graduated from Michigan State University, where she was elected into the Honor Societies of Kappa Delta Pi and Phi Kappa Phi. She taught for 21 years in the public schools of Clinton and Eaton Counties, retiring from the Grand Ledge Schools in 1976. On December 24, 1941, she was married to Russell Howe. For many years, they owned and operated the Howe Turkey Farms between Grand Ledge and Eagle. She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, Eaton County Assoc. of Retired School Personnel, M.E.A. and N.E.A. She was also a member of the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She is survived by her 5 daughters, Lois (Roger) Burghdoff of Warren, Marguerite Howe of Arlington, TX, Marti Howe of Okemos, Irene (Paul) Herrera of Eagle, and Beverly Howe of Grand Ledge; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her husband in 1976; 1 grandson, Lon Martin Kartochwill; and by 4 sisters, Ellen Thompson, Nettie Robinson, Beatrice Doty, and Mildred Bendt and 3 brothers, Frank Robinson, Fred Robinson, and J.D. Robinson. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 25th, 1 PM at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. W.J. "Bill" Amundsen of the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church officiating; interment to follow at the North Eagle Cemetery, Eagle Twp., Clinton Co.
