Alberta L. Rapp died June 5, 2002 at the age of 49. She was born in Kalamazoo, MI on April 30, 1953, the daughter of Lloyd and Jacquelin (Smith) Raab and lived in Kalamazoo and St. Johns most of her life. She was co-owner of the Sunset Motel and a member of the New Apostolic Church in Kalamazoo. Alberta married Steve Rapp in Kalamazoo on June 27, 1970 and she survives him. Also surviving are her sons, Steve Joseph Rapp and Keith Charles Rapp, mother, Jacquelin Raab, four sisters, three brothers, grandfather, Jerry Smith, step grandmother, Betty Smith, several aunts and uncles and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 11, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family. Robert W. Remer died June 3, 2002 at the age of 72. He was born in Lansing on January 29, 1930, the son of Herman and Pauline (Brendahl) Remer. Surviving are his wife Margie Remer, sons, William Remer of Idaho and Paul Remer of Lansing, three grandchildren, Shane Remer, Heather Remer and Aaron Remer, all of Idaho, two sisters, Mary Fielder of Pennsylvania and Barbara Jorae of Ovid and two brothers, Lawrence (Sharon) Remer of Florida and David (Mary) Remer. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 7, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor George Brinley officiating. The family will receive friends Noon - 1 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church. Earl F. Proctor, DeWitt, MI Age 87, died June 2, 2002. Born July 14, 1914 in Muir, Mr. Proctor retired from the State Accident Fund after 30 years of service and was a lifetime member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a Boy Scout Master and a Bath School Disaster survivor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena (1988) and son, Ralph (2001). Surviving are 1 daughter, Phyllis (Joseph) Assaff of TN; daughter-in-law, Maureen Proctor of Bath; 3 grandchildren, Jeffery D. Proctor, Jody L. (Craig) Coulter and Keith (Sherie) Proctor; 2 great-grandchildren, Megan and Isiah. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, June 6, 10 AM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt with the Rev. Richard Laeder, Pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. A Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday evening at 6:00 P.m. Judy was born in Saginaw, Michigan on April 20, 1948, the daughter of Fredrick & Opal (Fuller) Beach. She graduated from Ovid-Elsie High School with the Class of 1966. On June 24, 1978 she married Carl E. Chalker in Laingsburg, Michigan. She enjoyed helping other people, riding motorcycle and working in her yard. She resided most of her life in the Ovid and Owosso areas. She is survived by her husband, Carl Chalker of Owosso, 1 daughter, Angela Marie Schlarf of Owosso, mother, Opal Beach of Ovid, 2 grandchildren, 2 sisters, Patricia & Russell Little of Elsie, and Debra Beach of Ovid, 2 brothers, Fredrick & Katherine Beach Jr. of Ovid, and Kenneth Beach of Baton Rouge, LA, many nieces & nephews, father & mother in-law, Carl & Majie Chalker of Corunna, sister in-law, Wendy Kay Chalker of Owosso, and brother in-law, Tony & Nancy Chalker of Owosso. Burnham died June 1, 2002 at the age of 83. She was born in Livingston County on October 8, 1918, the daughter of Floyd and Edith (Shaller) Slider and lived in St. Johns most of her life. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home with burial at Sanford Cemetery in Livingston County at 3:30 P.M. The family will receive friends 5-8 P.M. James Viers, St. Johns, died June 1, 2002 at he age of 68. He was born in NorthStar, MI on April 2, 1934, the son of Homer and Josephine Viers and lived most of his life in St. Johns. He was a barber, member of the Lions Club, and a veteran of the U.S. Army. James married Barbara Lewis in Lansing on October 16, 1953 and she survives him. Also surviving are a son, James (Trudy) Viers; a grandson, Jason (Molly) Viers; a sister, Ruth (Don) Shaull; and a brother, Jack (Janet) Viers. Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial to follow at Union Home Cemetery with military graveside services provided by St. Johns Honor Guard. Wolfe, DeWitt, Born June 6, 1928 in Gratiot County, MI. Died May 30, 2002 at his home at the age of 73. Ray retired in 1979 after 30 years of service with General Motors. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Merna; sons, Steven (Debbie) and Scott (Dawn) both of Lansing; grandchildren, Charna, Matthew (Oanh), Andrew, Chad and Sara Wolfe; great grandchildren Logan and Rylee Wolfe; brother, Delbert (Margaret) Wolfe and sister, Beatrice McCutcheon both of Alma. Born December 23, 1919 in Duluth, MN. Mrs. Prisner worked for Detroit Mutual Insurance Company as a computer programmer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph (1995), parents, Stanley and Tekla Kalamaya and sisters, Jenny Gracek and Martha Kalamaya. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, surviving are 2 sons, Jeffrey and daughter-in-law Karen and Gary all of St. Johns; 6 grandchildren, Kari, Renee, Peter, Jennifer, Joseph and Janelle; 2 nephews, Robert (Bev) Gracek and Raymond (Alice) Gracek both of Duluth, MN. He was born in Lansing on May 29, 1906, the son of Casper and Louise (Bienstadt) Dean and lived in St. Johns all his life. He was a retired Fisher Body employee and was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Clarence married Mary Sykora in Riley Township on January 2, 1934 and she preceded him in death on December 25, 1998. Surviving are two daughters, Jeanette (Bruce) Mehney of St. Johns and Barbara (Richard) Fenby of Big Rapids, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. The family will receive friends 5-8 P.M. Sunday and 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Kridner, age 90 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2002 at Carson City Hospital in Carson City. He was a retired Farmer. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 1, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Elsie United Methodist Church in Elsie Michigan. Rev. Merlin Pratt will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie. A Masonic Service will be held Friday evening at 6:00. An Eastern Star Service will follow at 6:30 P.m. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 P.m. and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.m. Charles was born on January 3, 1912 in Worthington, Minnesota the son of George W. & Olena (Jensen) Kridner. He graduated from Elsie High School with the Class of 1930. On June 1, 1935 he married Thelma Peterson in Rochester Colony, Michigan. Charles was a Member of Elsie United Methodist Church since 1928. He was a Charter Member of United Methodist Men. He was also a Member of the Holstein Friesian Association and the D.H.I.A. Board. He served on the Ovid-Elsie School Board for 18 ˝ years and Fox School #6 for 4 years. He was the President of the Elsie Historical Society and a Member of Farm Bureau. He was a Member Elsie Masonic Lodge #238 and Elsie Chapter #69 OES. Charles resided most of his life in Elsie. Austin, Elsie, MI Formerly of Lansing and Houghton Lake Age 49; died May 28, 2002 in Ovid Township. Born January 23, 1953. He was an avid auto-racing fan, and was considered an icon in Michigan's auto racing community. He considered his friends in the sport his extended family. JJ was very outgoing and friendly. He had numerous friends everywhere, including close ties with many top professional drivers, such as Richard Petty and Bobby Allison. JJ attended the Beekman Center in Lansing and graduated from Houghton Lake High School in 1979. JJ was a person of many experiences. He usually worked in local restaurants washing dishes. At the time of his passing, he worked at the Hitching Post in St. Johns. He worked for three seasons as a chef's assistant at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island. He played on Special Olympics basketball teams--earning many awards, of which he was very proud. JJ was a very kind and charitable person. Many times JJ would single handedly collect money to help his friends or even complete strangers in need. All during his life, JJ benefited from many kind gestures from others, and always wanted to try and pass that kindness along in return. God has called another angel to his race team in Heaven, to join others who have gone before. Another star shines at night, to guide the racers way. He was dearly loved and will truly be missed. Funeral Services will be held 1:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2002 at Christler Funeral Home, 6651 W. Houghton Lake Dr. (M-55), Houghton Lake with Rev. Steve Fowler officiating. Interment will be in the Roscommon Township Cemetery. Visitation 9:00 a.m. Monday until service time.
