Thelma I. Beardsley, 80, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002. Services noon Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Gorsline-Runciman DeWitt Chapel. Dortha M. White, DeWitt, MI Dortha M. White of DeWitt died at Hospice House in Lansing on June 11, 2002. She was born in Riley Township, Clinton County on January 23, 1916, the daughter of Claud and Lottie Stevens. Dortha retired from the State of Michigan Treasury Department in 1985 after 17 years of faithful service and was a member of the DeWitt Community Church. She married Robert A. White on June 28, 1932 and he preceded her in death in 1978. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brother, Nelson; infant twin brothers; sons-in-law, Robert Schaar and Edward DeGeer. She is survived by 4 daughters, Roberta J. (Richard) Morrill of East Lansing, Margie M. (Dennis) Thelen of Westphalia, Ruth J. (Donald) Peterson of Waters and Janis K. DeGeer of DeWitt; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Doris Nichols of St. Johns. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 14, 10 AM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt, with the Rev. Fred C. Nose of Vanderbilt, MI officiating. Interment will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. The family will receive friends at the chapel Wednesday from 6-8 PM and Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Spadafore, DeWitt, MI Age 82, died June 11, 2002 after a brief battle with leukemia. Mrs. Spadafore, an avid reader, was a lifetime Lansing area resident and a 1938 graduate of Lansing Central High School. She held many jobs over her lifetime, including co-ownership, with her husband, of South Riley Tavern. Her most rewarding job was being mother to her 4 children and grandmother to her 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Victor; 1 son, Charles of Longmont, CO; 3 daughters, Vicki Hughes of Bath, MI, Christine Corn of Wellington, FL, and Cheryl (Eric) Way of Grand Ledge, MI; 4 grandchildren, Lucas Way, Jacob Way, Renee (John) Rosenthal and Brandon Corn; and great-granddaughter, Nicole Rosenthal; 2 sisters, Kate Enderle and Dolores (Ernest) Newman; 1 brother, David Darling, and special friends, Joan and Paul Schaefer. She was preceded in death by her mother, Thelma Darling; her father, Samuel Darling; and her brother, "Bud" Darling. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday with a 7 PM Vigil Rosary Service Thursday in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw. Memorial Funeral Liturgy will be 1 PM Friday, June 14, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, with Fr. Timothy MacDonald presiding. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Special thanks to the nurses and patient care technicians of Sparrow Hospital's 8th floor and to Clinton Area Hospice. Contributions may be made to Clinton Area Hospice or to the Leukemia Foundation of Michigan. Mary Ellen Snyder died June 11, 2002 at the age of 77. She was born in Van Wert, Ohio on April 17, 1925, the daughter of Doyt and Hattie (Hablitzel) Miller and lived most of her life in the St. Johns area. Mary Ellen was a retired cook and a Lansing State Journal carrier for 33 years, a member of Eureka Christian Church and Womens Fellowship, was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, St. Johns Senior Center and short course group. Mary Ellen married Guy Snyder, Jr. on November 17, 1946 in Eaton Rapids and he survives her. Also surviving are her daughters, Elaine Snyder, Marlene (Alan) Harris and Sheila (Russell) Waggoner, all of St. Johns, grandchildren, Christopher (Peggy) Snyder of Fowler, Nikki Harris of Perrinton and Hali Waggoner of St. Johns, four great grandchildren, three brothers, Clarence, Wayne and Richard Miller and two sisters, Rose Cantine and Harriett Orr. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Evelyn Acheson and granddaughter, Lani Waggoner. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, June 14, 2002 at Eureka Christian Church, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor Bob Ditmer officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Eureka Christian Church. Bernadette C. Bissell, Pewamo, MI Age 84, passed away on June 8, 2002. Mrs. Bissell was born on February 7, 1918 in Detroit, MI, the daughter of Albert and Margaret (Reis) Sturm. Bernadette was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and cook. Mrs. Bissell loved her family and friends very much and always saw a silver lining in a cloud. She saw the best in everything and everybody. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clell in March 1997; a great-granddaughter, Chelsey Baldwin; parents, Albert and Margaret Sturm; brothers, Robert and Gerald (Vada) Sturm; sister, Marge Elliott. Surviving are her daughters, Frances (George) Jorae of Ionia, Karen Papoi of Lansing, and Jeanie (Michael) Miller of Hubbardston; son, Dorr (Helen) Bissell of Ionia; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Rita (Arthur) Motz of St. Johns; sister-in-law, Martha Sturm of Lyons; brother-in-law, Harry (Anita) Bissell of Pewamo. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Charlon O. Mason, Pastor at 11 AM Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo with Rite of Committal following at East Plains Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Cook Funeral Home, 220 Rich St., Ionia from 7-8:30 Monday and 2-4 and 7-8:30 Tuesday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be prayed at 3 PM Tuesday with a Rosary being prayed at 8 PM Tuesday evening. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Education Fund in memory of Bernadette C. Bissell. The family would like to give a special thank-you to the staff of Hazel Findlay Country Manor for the care given to their mother over the past 5 years. Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Funeral Home of Ionia. Esther L. Ernst died June 8, 2002 at the age of 93. Born November 27, 1908 in Dallas Twp., the daughter of John & Rose (Martin) Ernst. Esther was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and lived all her life in the St. Johns area. Surviving are a daughter, Helen (Bud) Sage of St. Johns, three grandchlidren Karla (Thomas) Bishop of Perrinton, LuAnn (Lyle) Visser of Wyoming, MI and Roger Hansen, eight great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren, a sister Frances Burl of St. Johns, two brothers John Ernst and Lloyd (Reva) Ernst all of St. Johns, many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, June 10, 2002 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fowler, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Hazel I. Findlay Country Manor. Our mother, Belva Geisenhaver, Houghton Lake and Oldsmar, FL Formerly of Bath, passed away on June 7, 2002. She was born on May 13, 1923 in Lansing, MI. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1941 and retired from the Bath School District. Her husband, Kenneth preceded her in death in 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Dennis) Lockwood of Holt; sons, Gregory (Beverly) Geisenhaver of Ovid and Jeffery Geisenhaver of Bath; 4 grandchildren, LaNiece (Brent) Densteadt of Lansing, Becky Geisenhaver of Ovid, Jason (Cheryl) Lockwood of Mason and Chad Lockwood of Lansing; 2 great grandsons; brother-in-law, Jack (Betty) Geisenhaver of Bath; several nieces and nephews; step-brother, Neil (Aline) McNeil of Nova Scotia. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 11, 10:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 122 S. Pennsylvania Avenue, Lansing with the Rev. David Thiele, Pastor, officiating. Hagadorn Road, East Lansing, MI 48823.Erasmo B. Castillo, age 74 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Friday June 7, 2002 at Edward Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. He retired from Alma Products. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday June 11, 2002 at 10:00 A.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Paul Cummings will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery in Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 P.m. and Monday 2-8 P.m. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.m. There will be a Scripture Service Monday evening at 6:00 P.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Erasmo was born on November 26, 1927 in Dodge City, Kansas the son of Francisco & Josephine (Bentacura) Castillo. On January 2, 1954 he married Mary Ramirez in Alma, Michigan. Erasmo was retired from Alma Products and he enjoyed family get togethers and walking. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid and resided most of his life in St. Louis and Elsie, Michigan. He is survived by his wife Mary Castillo of Elsie, 2 daughters, Lupe & Jeff Kimmel of Ovid, Margaret & Rodney Albring of Marion Springs, 1 son, Erasmo Castillo of Elsie, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 1 brother, Roque & Celia Castillo of El Paso, TX. Many family members in Texas also survive him. Erasmo is predeceased by his parents, 1 son, Frank, 1 daughter, Irma, 1 sister, Rosa and 1 brother, Francisco. Memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Barbara E. Bandt died June 7, 2002 at the age of 61. She was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on March 29, 1941, the daughter of William and Nellie L. (Preston) Levine and lived in St. Johns most of her life. Barbara was a nurse at Clinton Memorial Hospital and retired from the Mid-Michigan District Health Department. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, enjoyed crocheting and was a big sports fan. Barbara married Vernon Bandt in St. Johns on August 17, 1963 and he survives her. Also surviving are her daughter, Beth Ann Matice, grandson, Christopher Matice, granddaughters, Heather Matice, Kiari Johnson and Lakia Johnson, all of Lansing, brother, Joseph (Arline) Levine, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Deshawn Johnson. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Monday, June 10, 2002 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, burial at St. Peter Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Peter Lutheran Church. Noel L. Duflo passed June 7, 2002 at the age of 62. He was born in Middleton on November 26, 1939, the son of Clare and Hattie (Sorrell) Duflo and lived in Clinton and Gratiot Counties most of his life. He worked at Federal Mogul for 37 years and was a life-long farmer, was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of the Elks Club and was a dedicated board member of the Clinton County Federal Credit Union. He loved to travel with his wife Diane, enjoyed playing golf and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. Noel married Diane Shellenbarger in Las Vegas on November 26, 1988 and she survives him. Also surviving are his children, Jacque Mallory (Tom Koenigsknecht) of Perrinton, Terri (Joseph) Mills of Kalkaska, Steven (Patricia) Duflo of St. Johns and Jeri Lynn (Scott) Zamarron of Perrinton, step daughter, DeeAnn (Martin) Bautistia of Lake Odessa, step son, Darwin (Melissa) Hamp of Ionia, sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren, three sisters, Verna (Lester) Foote of Williamston, Majel (Keith) Sattler and Florence (Fred) Akin all of Middleton, brother, Lawrence (Wenda) Duflo of Ashley, sister-in-law, Phyllis Duflo of Carson City and brother-in-law, Ralph Wood of Ithaca. He was preceded in death by his brother, Darwin Duflo, infant brother, Neil Duflo and sister, Phyllis Wood. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 10, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home with Rev. Matt Olson officiating. The family will receive friends 4-8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.
