Mable I. Chapman died June 17, 2002 at the age of 86. She was born in Lebanon Township, MI on March 3, 1916, the daughter of Herman and Alma (Roberts) Smith and lived in Lebanon Township most of her life. She was a member of Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church, a graduate of Maple Rapids High School, was an avid reader, enjoyed quilting and cross word puzzles. Mable married Dale R. Chapman in Essex Township on September 3, 1934 and he preceded her in death. Surviving are her daughters, Rosalie Rademacher and Sandra (Gail) Williams, all of Fowler, three grandchildren, Shelle (Jeff) Waldron of Fowler, Scott (Annette) Williams of San Jose, CA and Allen Williams of Sunnyvale, CA, four great grandchildren, Clayton and Cameron Waldron, Abigail and Cassidy Williams and sister, Madelyn Warren of St. Johns. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Kramer, grandsons, Phillip Marcum and Rodney Rademacher, son-in-law, Richard Rademacher and sister, Maxine Floate. There will be no services. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home. Age 81 of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Monday, June 17, 2002 at Ashley Healthcare Center in Ashley. He owned and operated his own Farm Tiling Business. He started Hand-Tiling in 1943, and purchased a machine and started business in 1949. He also farmed all his life. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 21, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Pastor Tyler Barlage will officiate with burial at Eureka Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 and Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 P.m. James was born on April 5, 1921 in St. Louis, Michigan, the son of Jeane W. & Lyna M. (Gotham) Burnham. On August 15, 1943 he married Dawn Petro at St. Louis Church of Christ in St. Louis. He was a member of Michigan Land Improvement Contractors Association, National Land Improvement Contractors Association, former Greenbush Township Trustee, and former member of Ovid-Elsie Rifle Association. He was a member of Community Christian Church in St. Johns, Michigan. He resided most of his life in St. Johns. He is survived by his wife Dawn Burnham of St. Johns, 3 sons, Michael & Amy Burnham of Arlington Heights, IL, Jeff & Roxanne Burnham of St. Johns, John & Joann Burnham of Dewitt, 2 daughters, Coni & Mike Stephenson of Eagle, and Patricia & Alan Johnson of Otisville, 9 grandchildren, 4 sisters, Ione Anderson of Midland, Joyce Gee of Ann Arbor, Beatrice Dershem of Ann Arbor, and Barbara & Dale Anderson of Auburn, 2 brothers, Jeane Burnham of Florida, William & Sue Burnham of Perrinton, and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 daughter, Judith Ann Burnham, 2 sisters, Linda Stowe and Dorothy Rockafellow, 1 brother in-law, Bernard Rockafellow and 1 sister in-law, Diana Burnham. Memorials may be made to Community Christian Church in St. Johns. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Beatrice L. Rossow, DeWitt, MI Born March 31, 1909, in Sheridan; died June 18, 2002, at the age of 93. Mrs. Rossow graduated in 1927 from Grand Ledge High School as Valedictorian of her class. She served as den mother for the Cub Scouts, was a Blue Star mother, loved to crochet and knit, and was a very hard worker and an avid gardener. Mrs. Rossow was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond (1997), infant son, Loy Raymond (1944), 5 brothers, and 3 sisters. Surviving are her 2 daughters, Anna Mae (Don) Stead of Owosso and Marilyn Rossow of DeWitt; 1 son, LaVerne (Diane) Rossow of St. Johns; 6 grandchildren, Lesa, Lora, Jay, Julie, Tammy and Terry; and 9 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 21, at 11 AM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 8990 Church Rd., St. Johns, with Pastor Jeff E. Heimsoth officiating. Interment will follow in Dewitt Cemetery, Dewitt. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Gross, Riley Township, Clinton County, MI Temperence, MI Cape Coral, FL Age 79, passed away in Cape Coral, FL April 3, 2002 son of Henry and Louise (Degnar) Gross. Born April 28, 1922 in Watertown Township, Clinton County, MI. He grew up on a farm in Riley Township. Harold served in World War II in Italy. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Ida Belle (Riker); a sister, Mary Twitchell of Eagle, MI; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and many friends. Harold was a carpenter, building homes in Ohio and Michigan. He also was a maintenance foreman for 24 years at Riker Manufacturing in Toledo, OH. He was a member of American Legion, V.F.W., and O.R.Y.C. Moving to Cape Coral, FL in 1999. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, John (1989) and a sister, Johanna Wilcox (1992). Memorial services were held Saturday, June 8, 2002 at Bedford Funeral Chapel, Temperence, MI with Rev. Dr. Rodney Haselhuhn, Pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Temperence, MI. Robert Charles Burns, Hubbardston, MI Age 67, died Friday, June 14, 2002 at the Carson City Hospital. He was born December 27, 1934 in Hubbardston, MI to Robert James and Zona Marie (Martin) Burns. He married Billie Moore on March 5, 1977 in Hubbardston, MI. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960 and 1961-1962. He worked for TRW in Portland for 18 years retiring in 1983. He is survived by 3 sons, Robert (Lori) Burns Jr. of Carson City, MI, Tim Burns of Hubbardston, MI, and Kenneth Burns of Palo, MI; 2 daughters, Kelly (Tom) Cook of Grand Rapids, MI and Kenya Burns Rypma of Sheridan, MI; six grandchildren; brother, Phillip (Nancy) Burns of Hubbardston, MI; four sisters, Judy (Harold) Rockey of Fowler, MI, Mary (Fred) Esch of Hubbardston, MI, Nancy (Dave) Speckin of Hubbardston, MI, and Kristine (William) Thurston of Hubbardston, MI; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert James and Zona Marie Burns; wife, Billie L. Burns; brothers, William and Daniel Burns; and sister, Patricia Gallagher. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 17, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston, MI with Fr. William Reitz officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 7-9 and Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Hubbardston, MI. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Ionia Area Hospice. Age 80 of Bannister, Michigan passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2002 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. She was a homemaker. Graveside services will be held at Hamilton Township Cemetery at a later date. Evelyn was born on August 1, 1921 in Kenosha, Wisconsin the daughter of Otto & Lena (Suring) Rosenfeldt. On September 1, 1943 she married Clarence Pease in Detroit, Michigan. Clarence passed away on April 18, 1996. Evelyn enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, reading, and she also enjoyed horses & cats. She resided most of her life in Michigan. She is survived by one daughter, Betty & Carl Slater of Bannister, three grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her parents, and one daughter, Barbara Jean. Memorials may be made to the family. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. |
