Age 87 of Bannister, Michigan passed away Saturday, June 22, 2002 at Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Lansing, Michigan. He was a farmer. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. Jana Jirak will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery in Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be Sunday from 7-9 P.M. and Monday from 2-9 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Rex was born on December 2, 1914 in Donovan, Illinois the son of Emil & Carrie (Hafstrom) Swanson. He graduated from Donovan High School with the Class of 1932. On January 20, 1940 he married Twila Brugger in Flint, Michigan, she died December 31, 1993. Rex was a farmer and he also enjoyed golfing and playing shuffleboard. He was a member of the Bannister United Methodist Church. Rex moved to Michigan in 1940, moved to Carland in 1951 and in 1963 he moved to the farm where he resided. He is survived by two daughters, Elaine & Dave Henderson of California, Gloria & Tim Hackett of St. Johns, 2 Sons, Ken & Janet Swanson of Bannister, Dave & Sherry Swanson of Oklahoma, 16 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two sisters, Elbe Johnson of Illinois, Grace McWayne of Illinois, and one brother, Andy Swanson of Indiana. Rex is predeceased by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. Memorials may be made to the Bannister United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Randy L. Thelen, Fowler died June 23, 2002 at the age of 48. He was born in St. Johns on March 5, 1954, the son of Stanley and Evelyn (Snyder) Thelen and lived in Fowler most of his life. He graduated from Fowler High School in 1972, was a press operator for General Motors, enjoyed tinkering in his shop, watching sports and always had a dream of building a helicopter. Surviving are his parents, brother, Eric Thelen of Fowler, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Goerge Chapel of the the Osgood Funeral Homes. Memorials may be made to made to Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund. Karen L. Caldwell, Westphalia passed away June 23, 2002 at the age of 56. She was born in Lakewood, OH on March 14, 1946, the daughter of Wayne and Vivian (Rueter) Shumaker, Sr. and lived in Westphalia, MI of her life. She was a graduate of Fairview High School, Fairview Park, OH, was an advertising secretary at the John Henry Company for 23 years, collected reindeer and baskets. Surviving are her children, Clark Caldwell of Columbus, OH and Stacy Caldwell of Westphalia; four grandchildren, Nathan, Austin, Maria Sue and Blake; mother, Vivian Shumaker of Fairview Park, OH; three sisters, Maryalys (Ron) Cansky of North Olmsted, OH, Vivien Shumaker of Elyria, OH and Diana Shumaker of Fairview Park, OH; three brothers, Wayne (Vilma) Shumaker, Jr. of Texas, John (Martha) Shumaker and Jerry (Pat) Shumaker, all of Cleveland, OH; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Wayne L. Shumaker, Sr. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Services will be held in Ohio. |
