Helen L. Cooper

Helen L. Cooper, 55, of Ionia passed away June 30, 2002 at Carson City Hospital. She was born July 26, 1946 in St. Johns the daughter of Anthony and Mildred (Mudgett) Limon.

She is survived by her husband Charles J. Cooper of Ionia; son, David and Janae Cooper of Hubbardston; daughters, Elizabeth Hustin of Ithaca and Tina and David Tucker of Ionia; brothers, Robert and Lisa Limon of Hubbardston and Anthony and Sheily Limon of Ionia; six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by sister, Mary, and her son-in-law Jaime Hustin.

A memorial service was held July 3 at Lake Funeral Home Hull Memorial Chapel in Muir.

Susan J. (Gibbs) Louvier

Susan J. (Gibbs) Louvier, 61, of Austin Texas, died June 28, 2002, following a short four-month and courageous battle with cancer. She was born March 13, 1941 to William H and Doris (Gregg) Gibbs, Jr. in Adrian.

Susie graduated from Adrian High School in 1959. She had many friends, loved life and was a very caring and generous person who enjoyed gardening, reading and looked forward to the bi-annual reunions held with her sisters and their families.

Susie is survived by her husband, Glenn of Dripping Springs, Texas; her loving daughters, Amy (Bret) Brining of Katy, Texas, and April May of LaMarque, Texas; step-sons, Raymond (Donna) and Dennis (Terri) of Houston, Texas, and Michael (Cathy) of Katy, Texas; the love of her life, grandchildren, Corey and Courtney Louvier and Dylan Brining of Katy, Texas, 'Cameron' and Hunter Crunk of LaMarque, Texas; step-grandchildren Trent Brining serving with the Army in Kuwait and Derrick Brining of Katy, Texas; her dear, special sisters, Emily (Lyle) Onslott of St. Johns, and Judy (Bill) Duncan of Centennial, Colo.

She is also survived by former husband, Michael May and wife, Jean Cadmus-May of Galveston, Texas; former mother-in-law, Marilda Markham of Bryan, Ohio; former brother-in-law, Bill (Deloris) Ireland of Adrian; former sister-in-laws, Greta (Walter) Barker of Bryan, Ohio, and Jackie Blanton of Adrian. Susie also had numerous aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces who survive her and were very special to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

A Memorial Service was held July 6 at the Crowder Funeral Home in LaMarque, Texas. At her request, her ashes will be scattered in Galveston Bay.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Milo M. Summer

Milo M. Summer died July 2, 2002 at the age of 91. He was born in Flanagan, Illinois on October 23, 1910, the son of George and Minnie (Schertz) Summer and lived in Gratiot County most of his life. He was a farmer, a 1930 graduate of St. Johns High School and charter member of Bethel Mennonite Church. Milo married Cleva Miller in Fairview, MI on June 17, 1939 and she survives him.

Also surviving are three sons, David (Shirley) Summers of Alberta, Canada, Philip (Lois) Summer of Elsie and George (Mary) Summer of Fairview, three daughters, Karen (Gerald) Short of Archbold, OH, Sharon (Jerry) Wall of Stanton, VA and Mary (Tim) Kaufman of Elsie, 18 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and sister, Mildred Tanner of Dover, TN. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond Summers and Dennis Summer and sisters, Esther Beck, Mabel Radford and Ruth Summer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 5, 2002 at Bethel Mennonite Church, Ashley, with Joe Pendleton officiating. The family will receive friends 4-7 P.M. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to Hospice for Clinton County or Church Missions.

Charley J. Kurivial

Age 80 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Thursday, June 27, 2002 at Shiawassee County Medical Care Facility in Corunna, Michigan. He worked for GM for 35 years as a Repairman.

There will be no services.

Charley was born on February 28, 1922 in Ashley, Michigan the son of Frank and Elizabeth (unknown) Kurivial. He attended Ashley and Bannister area schools. On June 24, 1950, he married Barbara Nechal at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Owosso, Michigan. Charley resided most of his life in Elsie.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Kurivial of Elsie, two sons, James Kurivial of Elsie, Joseph Kurivial of Elsie, and one sister-in-law, Mildred Nechal of Owosso. Charley is predeceased by his parents.

The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Charles W. Westfall

Charles W. Westfall, Eagle, MI Age 83, passed away July 2, 2002 in Lansing, MI. He was born September 3, 1918 in Eagle, MI, son of Harper and Hazel (Strause) Westfall. Mr. Westfall retired from Fisher Body after 40 years of service; was a longtime member of the Ionia Moose Lodge #998 and member of the North Eagle Cemetery Society. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ilene; 1 son, Gary (Linda) of Lansing; 1 grandson, Brian (Bobbie) of DeWitt; 1 great-grandson, Reese; 4 sisters, Ruth, Fern, Carol and Eleanor; Several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Westfall. He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Thomas. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 6th, 1 PM at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge, with Rev. Steve Burkhart of the Eagle Wesley Chapel officiating; interment to follow at the North Eagle Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, 2-4 and 7-9 PM. For those desiring, contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan or North Eagle Cemetery Society.

John Nicholas Herblet

John Nicholas Herblet, Eagle, MI Age 71, passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2002. He was born on June 30, 1931 to Fred and Marie (Jorae) Herblet of Laingsburg. After attending Resurrection High School, John went to G.M.I. and served in the United States Army. He worked for Fisher Body for 32 years before retiring, but he continued working the rest of his life as a small business owner, a rural mail carrier, and an apartment complex manager. John loved many outdoor activities, especially gardening, golf, pitching horseshoes, and sitting around a bon fire with the family and friends. John was a member of the Grand Ledge American Legion Post #48, the Lansing Eagles Lodge, and the Grand River Conservation Club of Portland. John was preceded in death by his first wife, Marian (Myers) and sister, Theresa Rose.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Kaboni) of Eagle; son, Jon (Keri) of Portland; daughters, Ann (Jeff) Van Allen of Ionia, Mary of Portland, Patti of Lansing, and Jean (Jeff) Bugbee of Lake Odessa; stepsons, Richard (Kari) Farrell of Lansing, and Christopher (Sally) Farrell of Wiky, Ontario, Canada; stepdaughter, Kim (Joseph) Haigh of Lansing; 19 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Connie) Herblet of Grand Rapids; sisters, Ann (Johnnie) Hoffman of Bakersfield, CA, and Judith of Lansing; numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.

The Funeral Liturgy will be conducted by Deacon Tony Pelak of St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 11 AM Saturday, July 6, 2002 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland, with interment following at Danby Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the Hospice of your choice, in memory of John Nicholas Herblet.
