Gordon Baker Rex Gordon Baker died at his farm residence, in Ovid Township, July 24, 2002, in his 82nd year. He was the son of Ralph Bryan Baker and Eva Mae Ballinger and was born in Ovid Township, Clinton County, MI, August 13, 1919. He was a caring man and was always there to help his family and neighbors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, often teaching many how to fish for bluegills at Lake Ovid. When he went overseas he was a Piper Cub mechanic. After leaving the military he and his wife settled upon the place where he had a continuous residence until death called him hence. In the early days of farming he was often found doing custom bailing for most of the farmers in the area. As time progressed, with the help of his wife, he maintained a small dairy herd of jersey cows. In 1950 he started to work at Sealed Power Corporation in St. Johns, MI, to help support their growing family. He continued working the factory, never giving up his love of the farm. He retired in 1978 as lead inspector of piston rings. On this farm in South Ovid he and his wife raised four boys; Rex (Nancy) Baker of Shepardsville, MI, Ross (Rosemary) Baker of Lansing, MI, Gordon (Mary) Baker of Wyoming, MI, and Jeffrey (Mary Ellen) Baker of East Grand Rapids, MI.
