Alice Elizabeth (Wells) Gorham

Alice Elizabeth (Wells) Gorham, DeWitt, MI Age 90, passed away on Monday, July 29, 2002. She was born November 9, 1911 in Grand Rapids, MI.

Mrs. Gorham is survived by her husband, Charles E. Gorham; 1 aunt, Mrs. E. L. Dye of Washington; numerous cousins; 3 God daughters, Mrs. Carrie Page, Mrs. Mary Alice Dunckle and Mrs. Deborah Engels. She was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter B5, East Lansing, MSU Alumni Association and AARP. She taught English and Language Arts at Pattengill Jr. High School for 18 years. It was her wish to be cremated.

There will be no visitation or services. In lieu of memorial services, the family requests your prayers.

Thomas E. Kriewall

Thomas E. Kriewall, Ph.D, DeWitt, MI Age 71, died July 27, 2002. Born May 7, 1931 in Bay City, MI, Dr. Kriewall received his BS from the University of Michigan in Engineering Math in 1954, his MS degree from the University of Michigan in Physics in 1957 and his Ph.D from the University of Wisconsin in 1969. He taught 8 years at Michigan Lutheran Seminary in Saginaw from 1957-1965, worked for the Institute for Educational Research in Downers Grove, IL from 1969 -1977 and the National College of Education, Evanston, IL from 1977-1979. He worked for Rotary International as Director of Research from 1979-1989 and from 1989-1996 was a Project Manager for Unisys Corp., retiring in June of 1996. He was preceded in death by his father, Reinhart Kriewall.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Dorothy; daughter, Linda L. (Lee) Evans of Woodstock, IL; 3 sons, David T. (Judy) of Issaquah, WA, Keith A. (Merri) of Newcastle, WA, and Thomas E. Kriewall II of Woodinville, WA; 10 grandchildren; mother, Olive Kriewall of Bay City; 2 brothers, Royce L. (Gloria) of Freeland and Dr. Timothy J. (Sally) of Jacksonville, FL.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, July 31, 11 AM at Emanuel First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1001 N. Capitol Avenue, Lansing, with the Rev. Paul J. Lindloff officiating. Graveside Services will follow at 4 PM in Green Ridge Cemetery, Bay City, MI. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lasing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Wednesday at the church 1 hour prior to the service. Those desiring may make contributions to the church in memory of Dr. Kriewall.

Tom Baker

Tom Baker, Perrinton, MI Tom Baker, age 59, passed away on Saturday, July 27, 2002 at the Carson City Hospital. Tom was born on September 12, 1942 in Perrinton. On June 6, 1964, he married Joanne Fisher at the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church. Tom served his country in the Navy for 4 years as a jet mechanic. He was a supervisor for General Motors, retiring after 32 years. Tom golfed every chance he got and was an avid hunter.

He is survived by his wife, Joanne, of Perrinton; 2 sons, Scott (Shelly) of Perrinton and Bobby of Oceanside, CA. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elinor Baker.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at 11 AM at the Congregational Christian Church in Maple Rapids. Officiating will be Pastor Jerry Kissling and the burial will be in the Fulton Center Cemetery, Perrinton. Visitation will be on Monday, July 29, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM at the Dodge Funeral Home in Middleton. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.

Eleanor N. Demjen

demjen.jpg (4187 bytes)Age 76 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Monday, July 22, 2002 at Covenant HealthCare in Saginaw, Michigan. She was a homemaker and she enjoyed going to rummage sales.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 25, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Bill Stites will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery in Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Eleanor was born on July 17, 1926 in Ashley, Michigan the daughter of John & Sarah (Harnes) Ross. In September 1942 in Angola, Indiana she married Frank Demjen. She resided most of her life in Gratiot & Saginaw County.

She is survived by her husband, Frank Demjen of Elsie, one daughter, Judy & Ron Miller of Elsie, two sons, Harold & Marlus Deming of Elsie, Jerry & Dawn Deming of Elsie, 11 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one daughter-in-law, Carol "Mousie" & Tony Deming of Elsie. Eleanor is predeceased by her parents, one son Johnny, one grandson Brad, one great granddaughter Tiffany, one sister Effie and two brothers, Kenneth & Clarence.

Memorials may be made to the family. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

William M. Coffey

William M. Coffey, Parrish FL Formerly of Bath, MI Age 74, born January 9, 1928. Passed away July 24th, 2002. 5 years as Clinton County Zoning Administrator and owner of "Wild Bill's" Mobile Home Specialist.

Surviving are his wife, Pauline; sons Billy (Kim), Robert (Sally) and Reid (Kerrie); 12 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held Tues. July 30th at Manson Memorial Funeral Home in Ellenton, FL. Donations to Hospice of South West Florida.

Richie M.  Vorase, III, 15, Ovid-Elsie High School student, died Thursday, July 25, 2002. Services 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2002 at Osgood Funeral Homes, Houghton Chapel.

Gerald E. "Jerry" Buggs

Gerald E. "Jerry" Buggs,  St. Johns, died July 26, 2002 at the age of 72. He was born in Nicollet County, MN on August 3, 1929, the son on William A. and Hazel E. (Gustafson) Buggs, Sr. He was a retired butcher, enjoyed antique cars and gardening.

Surviving are his daughters, Karen (Bill) Pioszak, Joyce (Bob) Sherwood, all of St. Johns, Jean Buggs of San Diego, CA, Lynne Buggs of East Lansing and Mary Anne (James) Marshall of San Diego, CA; sons, Rick Buggs of San Francisco, CA, Joe (Tam) Buggs of Bay City, MI and Tim (Mary) Gannon of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Emily, Eric, Erika, Kendall, Dylan, Selby, Grady, Collin and Adam; brother, Bill Buggs of Florida, "Brother Roy" Davis of St. Johns; several nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
