Francis G. Farmer Francis G. Farmer, St. Johns, MI Age 89, died Wednesday August 7, 2002. He was a retired Minister who served a number of churches. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-9 PM at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 11 AM from the Toothman Funeral Home in St. Clairsville, OH, with visitation in Ohio on Friday from 4-9 PM. Burial will be in Holly Memorial Gardens in Pleasant Grove, OH. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Francis was born on May 9, 1913 in Bellaire, Ohio the son of Francis M. & Edith (Fitch) Farmer. He attended Bellaire High School in Ohio and on June 23, 1934 he married Loretta B. Ashoff in Wheeling, West Virginia. She passed away February 20, 1999. Francis was a Member of AARP and resided most of his life in Bellaire, Ohio. He is survived by his son, Wayne & Betty Farmer of Dewitt, grandchildren, Chris & Paul Bullock of Morris, Rebecca & Arthur Lied of Swartz Creek, Deborah & David Bergren of Rockford, 9 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and one brother, Norman Farmer of Indiana. Francis is predeceased by his parents, wife Loretta, two brothers, William & Lester and three sisters, Elizabeth, Grace & Doris. Memorial Contributions may be made to St. Johns Free Methodist Church. Kenneth A. Schulze died August 4, 2002 at the age of 86. He was born in Clinton County, MI on June 5, 1916, the son of Carl and Inez (Sowles) Schulze. He was the owner & operator of Ken's Service in Maple Rapids for many years and assistant chief for Maple Rapids Volunteer Fire Department, a member of Maple Rapids United Methodist Church, former member of the Odd Fellows, was an avid golfer and enjoyed bowling. Surviving is his wife of 61 years, Marge, two sons, Kenneth "Jim" Schulze (special friend Robin Hattis) of Maple Rapids and Karl J. (special daughter-in-law Shari) Schulze of Fowler, four grandchildren, Kevin J. (Lon), Kenton J. (Sharon), Kristopher J. (Melissa) and Kurtis J. Schulze, ten great grandchildren and sister, Winifred Stewart of Perrinton. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sharon (2000), his parents and three brothers, William, Gerald and Earl. Memorial services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 8, 2002 at the Maple Rapids United Methodist Church with Rev. Martin Cobb officiating. LaBrie age 76 of Sparta, formerly of St. Johns died quietly August 4, 2002, surrounded by his loving family. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Michigan State University, with advanced studies from the University of West Virginia, University of Wichita, and University of Washington State. Thirty-seven years of his life was spent teaching English, Spanish and French. He will long be remembered by many for his passion for life and his ability to teach life's lessons in the classroom. He was a devout Catholic who attended mass on a daily basis throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Bonnie (Kelly) LaBrie; parents, William and Mary (Smydra) LaBrie; brothers, Louis, Donald, Bernard and Martin; sisters, Lorraine, Lillian, Virginia and Catherine. He is survived by his children, Mary and Roger Snider of East Grand Rapids, MI, Theresa and Terry Thelen of St. Johns, MI, Michelle and Gregg Feindt of Morley, MI, Steve and Geri Ann LaBrie of West Branch,MI, Bob and Valerie LaBrie of Tucson, Arizona; his grandchildren, Heidi, Adam and Kelly Snider, Christopher Halliday, Jessica, Jami, and Brie Thelen, Heather and Monica Feindt, Sara, Chelsea and Brandon LaBrie, Chris and April Pfeiffer and Josef LaBrie; brothers, William LaBrie and Edwin LaBrie; sisters, Joan Laurila and Jeannette Miller, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Wednesday August 7, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends at the Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns on Monday 7:00-9:00 P.M. and Tuesday 2:00-4:00 & 7:00-9:00 P.M. with a rosary prayed at 8:00 P.M. Tuesday. Bernice "Berni" Hafner, Pewamo Loving daughter, sister, sister-in-law, "aunt", godmother and genuine friend, died at Carson City Hospital, August 4, 2002 at the age of 53, after a brief courageous fight with cancer. Born in St. Johns on February 14, 1949, she was the daughter of Roman L. and Marian C. (Smith) Hafner. She was a member of St. Joseph Church, Pewamo, Catholic Order of Foresters, and previously employed by George Worthington and the last 5 years with the Farm Bureau in Lansing. Berni also enjoyed playing golf, bowling, puzzles, woodcrafts and watching her nephews & nieces in any activities they were involved in. Berni was a graduate of Pewamo-Westphalia High School in 1967. She is survived by her mother, Marian Hafner of Pewamo, one sister, Joyce (Ken) Heckman of Pewamo, three brothers, Carl (Linda) Hafner of Pewamo, Bob (Alice) Hafner of Westphalia, Dan (Maridell) Hafner of Pewamo, also surviving nine nieces, Tami, Trisha, Amanda, Dawn, Robin, Pam, Karen, Tina, Brenda and six nephews, Jarrod, Jason, Eric, Brian, Tony, Jeremy, also one great nephew & six great nieces. Berni was preceded in death by her father Roman Hafner. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, August 7, 2002 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Pewamo with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. Age 72 of Ashley, Michigan passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2002 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan. He was a Technical manager for Hush Puppies International, Wolverine World Wide in Rockford, serving 90 countries around the world for 46 years until his retirement in 1995. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 3, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. Rev. Jana Jirak will officiate with burial at North Star Cemetery in North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8 P.M. and Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Allen was born on March 31, 1930 in Rockford, Michigan the son of Arnold and Lela (Whitbeck) Hunting. He attended and graduated from Rockford High School in Rockford, Michigan. On August 7, 1975 he married Ruth Sadler in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He loved to travel; golf and he had a flower garden. He loved to spend time with his family and friends. He was a member of the Ashley United Methodist Church and he resided most of his life in the Rockford and Ashley areas. He is survived by his wife Ruth Hunting of Ashley, five children, Connie & Ron Joy of Kingman, Arizona, Scott & Wilma Hunting of Kalkaska, David Oberlitner of Ithaca, Amie Oberlitner of Lansing, Michelle Maynard of Lansing, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Allen is predeceased by his parents, one sister Barb Smits and one grandson Eddie Stark. Memorials may be made to the Ashley United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel Stan Staviski, Higgins Lake, MI Formerly of DeWitt Age 83, passed away July 31, 2002. Mr. Staviski retired in 1979 from the State of Michigan Liquor Control Commission after 27 years of service. He was a Veteran of WWII serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of V.F.W. Post #4159; AMVETS Post #13; American Legion Post #245 of Prudenville; Moose Lodge #1162 of Grayling; and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #3201 of Houghton Lake. He liked to plant flowers, especially iris, glads and daffodils, and enjoyed watching birds at his many bird feeders. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Penny Staviski in 1990; his companion, Doris Rux in 1997; 2 sisters, Edna Curtiss and Jennie Smith; 2 brothers, Steve and John Staviski. Surviving are his 2 daughters, Darla D. Staviski and Sharon L. Painter; son, Steve A. Staviski; 6 grandchildren, Jarod Staviski, Mark Painter, Bret Painter, Lisa Lockwood, Aleisha Harper, and Brooke Staviski; and former wife, Darlene Clark. Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Friday (today) with Services 2 PM Saturday, August 3, in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, with Rev. Robert J. Besemer officiating. Interment will be later at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bath. Contributions may be made to the Roscommon Animal Control for lost and found pets, envelopes will be at the funeral home. |
