George D. Weber

George D. Weber, Portland, MI Age 77, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2002. He was born on June 15, 1925 in Lebanon Twp., MI, the son of William and Catherine (Goerge) Weber. Mr. Weber retired from T.R.W. in 1983 after 30 years of service. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Jeremy Weber, 3 brothers and a sister.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Renee (Thomas) Goff of Jackson, Helen (Victor Buranskas) Weber of Okemos, and Vivienne (Timothy) Lund of Milwaukee, WI; 2 sons, George (Joan) Weber and David (Rebecca) Weber, both of Portland; 16 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Herman Weber of St. Johns, James (Ilene) Weber of Ada, and Urban Weber of Fowler; sisters, Helen Simmons of Fowler, Dorothy Little of Ionia, and Rita (Robert) Sonday of Portland.

Funeral Services will be conducted by Rev. Scott K. Otis, Pastor, Portland United Methodist Church at 11 AM Friday, August 23, 2002 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Thursday. For those wishing, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the National Kidney Foundation in memory of George D. Weber.

Janet Fay Hill, 70, retired Pewamo-Westphalia School District substitute teacher, died Monday, August 19, 2002. Services 2 p.m. Thursday at Lux & Schnepp Funeral Home, Carson City.

Virginia A. Feldpausch

Virginia A. Feldpausch,  Perrinton, Michigan Virginia A. Feldpausch, age 81 died Saturday, August 17, 2002 at her home after a courageous battle against cancer.

Surviving are her husband, Leo of 61 years; four daughters, Jane (James) Nurenberg, Diane (Fred) Piper, Donna (Paul) Hufnagel, Sandy Thelen; five sons, Ray (Karen), Gary (Penny), Steve (Eileen), Patrick (Linda), Lee (Linda); 38 grandchildren; and 38 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Geraldine Irrer, and one great grandson, Peyton Lee Moore.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday at St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church in Perrinton. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 on Sunday and Monday at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler with a Rosary at 3:00 and 8:00 P.M. Sunday and 3:00 P.M. Monday and a Scripture Service will be prayed 8:00 P.M. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Maryknoll Missionary Sisters-for the poor or Hospice of Clinton County.

Douglas Lee  Mueller

Douglas Lee  Mueller, DeWitt, Age 58, died August 15, 2002. Born August 10, 1944 in St. Johns, Douglas served in the Military from 1968-1980, stationed in Alaska and in 1974 was stationed in Lieghton Barracks, Wurzburg, Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1980 from Forces Command, Ft. Carson, CO. He will be greatly missed by his fellow co-workers and many friends who came into Terranova's Party Store.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Mueller, step-father, John Stanzack and sisters. Surviving are his mother, Betty Stanzack of Ft. Worth, TX; 1 brother, Duane Mueller; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt Monday from 6-8 PM with services at 7:00 PM. Interment will be held Tuesday in Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.

Joseph Witgen

Joseph Witgen,  Westphalia, MI Age 76, beloved brother, uncle, and friend passed away August 16, 2002. Joseph was born November 17, 1925 in Fowler, MI, the son of Peter and Mathilda (Wacker) Witgen. Mr. Witgen was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia and was a 4th degree member of the St. Jude Thaddeus Council of the Knights of Columbus #2890, and a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. Joe retired from the Clinton Co. Road Commission in 1985, enjoyed hunting, fishing, repairing clocks, and visiting the sick. He was always ready to help those in need, being a handyman to all, was 4H Leader, Soap Box Derby Leader, and Boy Scout Leader. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Mike Rogers.

Surviving are a sister, Alice (John H.) Thelen and brother, David (Rita) Witgen, all of Westphalia; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor, and Msgr. Sylvester Fedewa at 10:30 AM Monday, August 19, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 Saturday and Sunday. The Rosary will be prayed at 3 and 8 PM both days. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Al Miller Trust Fund, in memory of Joseph Anthony Witgen. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.

Jerry Allen Kosloski

kosloski.jpg (3818 bytes)Jerry Allen Kosloski,  St. Johns, MI Age 59, died Friday, August 16, 2002 at Ingham Regional Medical Center, Lansing, MI. The Funeral Service will be held at Smith Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel on Monday, August 19, 2002, at 11 AM, with burial in Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, MI. Visitation will be Saturday, 6-8 and Sunday, 2-8, with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Born November 10, 1942 in Lansing, MI, to Arthur and Helen (Onley) Kosloski, he resided in St. Johns for most of his life. He graduated from Eastern High School, and worked as a Pipe Fitter, retiring from Local 333. He was a member of NSSA, he also enjoyed trap shooting, deer hunting, fishing and almost any outdoor sport.

He is survived by a daughter, Pamela (Reuben) Martinez of St. Johns, MI; son, Larry Kosloski of Grand Ledge, MI; 5 grandchildren, Andrew, Kyle, Savannah, Katie and Carson; parents, Art and Helen Kosloski of Lansing, MI; 1 sister, Judy (Tom) Studer of Middleton, MI; 2 brothers, Art (Ronda) Kosloski Jr. of St. Johns, MI, and Jeff (Robin) Kosloski of Lansing, MI; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Research or to Ovid Healthcare Center.   The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, 2057 N. Lansing St., St. Johns, MI 48879.

Leda "Jackie" Husted

Leda "Jackie" Husted died August 16, 2002 at the age of 92. She was born in Maple Rapids on February 8, 1910, the daughter of Abram and Edith (Payne) Underwood. She was an elementary teacher in Maple Rapids for 5 years, Merritt, MI for 17 years and Boulder City, Nevada for 10 years, a member of Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church and past president of the American Business Women's Association of Nevada. Jackie married Marion A. Husted in Angola, IN on June 8, 1935 and he preceded her in death on October 15, 1990.

Surviving are her sisters, Theda (Nelson) Hull of Zephyrhills, FL, Maple (Upton) Hicks of Maple Rapids and Lorraine Wright of Lansing, brother, Robert L. Underwood of Maple Rapids, sister-in-law, Evelyn Underwood of Maple Rapids, many nieces & nephews, great nieces & nephews, great great nieces & nephews and great great great nieces & nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Reba Craig and three brothers, Acil Underwood, Anzil "Dud" Underwood and Merwin "Oak" Underwood.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 19, 2002 at Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church, burial at Payne Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Kissling officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. Edward L. Schneider

Edward L. Schneider went home to be with his Lord August 15, 2002 at the age of 79. He was born in Fowler on November 28, 1922, the son of Joseph and Antoinette (Rademacher) Schneider. He worked at Motor Wheel for 36 years in Die Setup, was a veteran, a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, enjoyed gardening and loved his dog "Pepper". Edward married Alice M. Fox in Pewamo on May 8, 1951 and she preceded him in death on February 9, 1993.

Surviving are his sons, Tom (Connie) Schneider of Alma, Mike (Peg) Schneider of St. Johns, Dan (Jill) Schneider of Ashley, Pat (Susie) Schneider of DeWitt and Steve (Dawn) Schneider of St. Johns, daughters, Ellen (Bob) Davis of St. Johns, Ann Schneider of Houston, Texas, Cindy (Bryan) Lumbert of Edmore and Mary (Jim) Cosgrove of Ashley, grandchildren, Justin (Jeanette), Brad, Shannon, Amanda, Amber, Eric, Scott, Alyse, Evan and Hannah Schneider, Toni and Alan Davis, Matthew Lumbert and Cary Cosgrove, four great grandchildren, brothers, Tony (Beverly) of Bumpass, VA, Bill (Belva) of Lansing and Herman of Westphalia, sisters, Therese Johnson of Potterville, Rita (Larry) Carrow of Lansing and Lorraine Fitzpatrick of Ionia and sister-in-law, Loretta Schneider of Lansing. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary, Esther, Rose and Sister Bernardis and brother, John.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 19, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil being prayed 7 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

James C. Black

James C. Black, 75, of Okeechobee, Fla., died Aug. 16, 2002 at Susan's Country Manor.

Residing in Lapeer from 1948-1985, Mr. Black and his wife, June, were extremely active members of Grace Episcopal Church.

After attending Eastern Michigan University, Mr. Black obtained his masters degree from the University of Michigan. He then taught within the Lapeer County School System from 1948 to 1955 after which he served as principal of White Junior High School until he retired in 1983.

After retiring, he and his wife enjoyed many years of golfing with friends in Perrinton, and Bradenton, Fla. The Blacks were winter residents of Bradenton for 17 years and summer residents of Perrinton. After his wife died in 2000, Mr. Black moved to Okeechobee. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, Wright Black.

He is survived by two sons, Jeff Black (Raja) of Okeechobee, and Colby Black (Paula) of Frostproof, and one daughter, Candice Walker (Paul) of Okeechobee; seven grandchildren, James Black, Kristan and Kara Black, Evelyn and Beth Walker, all of Okeechobee, and Amanda and Casey Black, both of Frostproof; one brother, Richard Black (Jeanne) of Grand Rapids; one sister, Jean Morgan (Rick) of New Smyrna Beach, Fla; two sisters-in-law, Judy Warner and Naomi Wright, both of Perrinton.

A memorial service will be scheduled in Michigan on a later date. There will be no local visitation or services.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Okeechobee, PO Box 1548, Okeechobee, Fla., 34973. Arrangements were by Buxton Funeral Home and Crematory.

Erik Lynn Warner

Warner-Erik.jpg (7444 bytes)Erik Lynn Warner died August 15, 2002 at the age of 22. He was born in St. Johns on August 16, 1979, the son of Lynn and Vanessa (Jaquish) Warner. He was a graphic designer for the Clinton County News/DeWitt-Bath Review, graduated from St. Johns High School in 1998 and the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 2001 and was a member of Pilgrim United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his parents, Lynn and Vanessa Warner, brothers, Andrew John Warner and Brandon Ray Warner, all of St. Johns, cousin, Heather (Kurt) Hebeler of Ovid, grandparents, Iva Mae Warner of St. Johns and Gordon and Sandra Katz of Barryton, great grandparents, Donald Jaquish of St. Johns and Mabel Baldwin of Haslett, aunts and uncles, Leo and Jill Drinkwine of Alden, Mark Bancroft of St. Johns, Leslie Warner of Perrinton and Bob and Debbie Chamberlain, of St. Johns, cousins, Traci and Dawn Chamberlain of St. Johns, Leo, Amy and Ashley Drinkwine of Alden, Troy Warner of Chicago, Scott Warner of Cadillac, Brent (Kellie) Warner of DeWitt and Eric (Trisha) Vanderbos of Grand Ledge and many friends. He was preceded in death by his aunt, Janice Bancroft, cousin, Derek Bancroft, and grandfathers, John Jaquish and Ray Warner.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 19, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Rev. Brian Sheen officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be   made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Michigan.

Neil Edward Spalding

Spaulding.jpg (4499 bytes)Age 38, passed away in Tampa Aug. 11, 2002.  He was born in Lansing, MI on Jan. 17, 1964.  He was a 1982 graduate of DeWitt High School; earned an Associates Degree from Lansing Community College; and a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Illinois University.  He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of 1st. Class Petty Officer. 

Surviving are:  Wife, Catherine; Mother, RoseMarie (David) Beardsley of Perry, MI; Father, James Edward Spalding of DeWitt, MI; Sister, Sherry Spalding and her fiancée, Roger  Jones of Lansing; Brother, Jason Wyman of Mason, MI; Step-Siblings, Rene (Dennis) Robbins and Dawn Heit of Flint, MI, Lisa Bock of Durand, MI, David Beardsley of  Oklahoma, Craig Beardsley of Oscoda, MI; Mother and Father-in-law, Sonia and Ted Richards of Lansing; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  A Funeral

Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2002 at St. Andrew Orthodox Catholic Church; 1216 Greencrest; East Lansing, MI with the Father Roman Star of St. Innocent Orthodox Catholic Church, Redford, MI officiating.  Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.   Military honors will be provided.  The family will receive friends at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel, 325 W. Washtenaw St.; Lansing, MI from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday and he will lie-in-state at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday.  The Panikheda will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.   Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W.
