F. Simon Roman F. Simon, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, died August 26, 2002 at the age of 80. He was born in Fowler on August 9, 1922, the son of Otto and Mary (Hufnagel) Simon and lived in Fowler all his life. Along with his wife Rita, his family was the love of his life. He was the owner of Simon Brothers Trucking for over 50 years. He was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Michigan Milk Haulers Association and was a former Fowler Village Council member. Roman married Rita Miller in Fowler on May 29, 1945 and she preceded him in death on March 20, 2000. Surviving are ten children, Anne (Rick) Auger of Manson, WA, Mary (Bill) Fitzpatrick, Dennis (Diane) Simon, both of Fowler, Marilyn (William) Dixon of Sheridan, Dan (Linda) Simon, George (Cindy) Simon, both of Fowler, Jan Simon (Dale Murray) of St. Johns, Steve (Denise) Simon of Fowler, Sharon Thelen (special friend Joe Thelen) of Portland, and Rose (Brian) Thelen of St. Johns, 31 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, four sisters, Rita (Carl) Wieber of Fowler, Theresa Donovan of Louisiana, Anna (Alfred) Koenigsknecht of Fowler, and Wilma Thelen of St. Johns, two brothers, Don (Shirley) Simon of Mt. Clemens and Frank (Barb) Simon of Lansing and sister-in-law, Joan Simon Thelen of DeWitt. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald Simon and Robert Simon, one daughter, Marianne Simon, three grandchildren, Andrew Simon, Matthew Simon, and John Thelen, and two brothers, Tony and Paul Simon. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Thursday, August 29, 2002 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Paul Jesuraja, S.J. officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Tuesday and Wednesday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler, with rosary prayed 3 and 8 P.M. Tuesday and 3 P.M. Wednesday, and a vigil service 8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten by all those who knew and loved him. Alma B. Whitford, Laingsburg, MI Age 86, died Friday, August 3, 2002 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, MI. Alma was born February 6, 1916 in Illinois, the daughter of Len and Eva (Blargen) Cook. She married Lewis O. Whitford in Owosso, MI on November 11, 1933 and spent her life as a homemaker and a farmer's wife, and also sold Avon products for 25 years. She resided in the Haslett and Laingsburg areas for most of her life and was a member of Emanuel First Lutheran Church in Lansing, MI. She is survived by her husband, Lewis O. Whitford of Laingsburg; 3 daughters, Maxine and Robert Evans of Santa Anna, CA, Betty and Richard Green of Haines City, FL, Erma and Eugene Hasse of Jackson, MI; 1 son, Raymond and Paula Whitford of Laingsburg; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents; 1 grandson, David Johnston; and 1 brother, Milo Cook. Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel on Wednesday, August 28, 2002, 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Paul J. Lindloff and the Rev. Timothy H. Buelow officiating. Visitation on Tuesday, August 27, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Burial will be at North Star Cemetery, North Star, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation or the American Heart Association. The family is being served by Smith Family funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Arleta Mildred Cutler, DeWitt Age 86, died August 22, 2002. Born July 3, 1916 in Victor Township, MI, Mrs. Cutler was very active with the Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Neil Randall Cutler in 1989. Surviving are 2 daughters, Bonnie (Carrol) Ward and Martha (Daryl) Reed, both of DeWitt; 2 sons, David (Debbie) of Medina, WA and Wallace (Angie) of DeWitt; 11 grandchildren, Denise (Jay) Hine, Diane Ward, Butch (Gail) Ward, Lisa (Jeff) Stamm, Tim Cutler, Keith Cutler, Pam (Jason) Lowe, Ryan Cutler, Dean (Becky) Reed and Tina (Scott) Wood; 13 great-grandchildren. There will be no services or visitation. Those desiring may make contributions to the DeWitt Area Fire and Rescue, 911 W. Main, DeWitt, MI 48820 in memory of Mrs. Cutler. The family is being served by the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel. |
