Hailey Elizabeth Puetz

Puetz-Hailey.jpg (5731 bytes)Hailey Elizabeth Puetz went to be an angel in heaven on September 1st, 2002. She was born at Sparrow Hospital on July 30th 2002 to her proud parents Mark and Shannon (McGarry) Puetz. In her short time here she brought joy and smiles to so many people, family, friends and complete strangers. We will all miss our baby, but we know she is safe and looking upon us with a smile on her face.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her grandparents, Neil and Ellen Puetz of Allegan and Mike and Shelley Garrod of St. Johns, her great-grandparents, Leonard and Nancy Puetz of Iowa, Clarita Goerge and Bob Fedewa of DeWitt, Rex and Phyllis Lippert of Stanton, and Jan Garrod of Mason. She was preceded in death by her great grandparents, Anthony Goerge of Fowler, Joyce Garrod of St. Johns and William Garrod of Mason.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, September 5, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Pastor Wayne Hoedt officiating followed by burial services at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, September 4th at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the CJ foundation for SIDS.

Clare C. Falor

Falor age 92 died September 3, 2002.   Born August 4, 1910 in Harrison, Michigan the son of Neil and Edna (Smith) Falor and lived most of his life in the Fowler area.  He farmed all of his life and was a Fowler Public School bus driver for 17 years and the sexton for the East Plains Cemetery for over 30 years.  Clare married Lena J. Dalton January 23, 1932 in Maple Rapids and she preceded him in death on May 14, 1998.

Surviving are two daughters, Norma (Tom) Fitzpatrick of Carson City & Ruth Ann (Clem) Feldpausch of Fowler, two sons, Donald (Edna) Falor of Fowler & Ronald (Kim) Falor of Perrinton, fifteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, and special nephew and family, Alvin (Lorraine) Drumheller of Perrinton.   Clare was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Addie Falor, great grandson, Ean Feldpausch, three brothers, Merlin, Marvin and Archie Falor, and four sisters, Neila Griffith, Margie "Peg" Williams, Alice Kennedy and Lorena Falor.

Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 7, 2002 at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Fowler, burial at East Plains Cemetery with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating.  The family will receive friends 2-8 P.M. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Clinton Memorial Hospital.

Mary Emily Kurka

kurka.jpg (3854 bytes)Mary Emily Kurka, age 87 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Sunday, September 1, 2002 at Memorial Healthcare Center in Owosso. She retired from Strawsine Manufacturing in 1980.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 4, 2002 at 11:00 A.m. at Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. Merlin Pratt and Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Monday evening from 6-8 and Tuesday 2-8 with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.m.

Mary was born on May 5, 1915 in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Michael & Mary (Bartos) Zvonek. On August 26, 1933 she married Jerry Kurka in Ovid, Michigan. He passed away on April 20, 1976. Mary was also a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, crocheting, and playing Bingo. She was a member of ZCBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister and resided most of her life in the Elsie area.

She is survived by four daughters, Geraldine & Lawrence Graham of Houghton Lake, Dorothy & Lewis Baese of Elsie, Joan Kurka of Elsie, and Karlene Snyder of Elsie, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren, two sister in laws, Marie Zvonek of Owosso, Ann Zvonek of Higgins Lake, also many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers, Michael, Joseph, and John Zvonek. Memorials may be made to Elsie Ambulance Service or Elsie Fire Department. The Family is being served by Smith Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Sharon Sue Kurka

Sharon Sue Kurka, Ovid Age 56, died Friday August 30, 2002. She worked for General Motors in Lansing for 36 years. Visitation will be Sunday and Monday from 4-8 p.m. and funeral services will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Violet M. Hill

Violet M. Hill,  DeWitt, MI Born February 3, 1913, in Alger; died August 29, 2002, at the age of 89. Mrs. Hill was employed for 10 years with J. W. Knapps and for 15 years with the State of Michigan. She was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed attending Lugnut games and the Wharton Center. She had a passion for playing cards, especially Euchre, and attended the Waverly 39ers and DeWitt Senior Citizens. Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, in 1957 and a brother, Kenneth, in January 2002.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Linda Hill of Carp Lake, Terri (Wendell) Howe of DeWitt, and Jennine (Dave) Emmons of Houghton Lake; 2 sons, Dick (Gail) of Lansing, and Dan (Sandy) of DeWitt; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, August 31, at 11 AM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin St., DeWitt, with the Rev. Dwight Ezop, of Catholic Community of St. Jude, officiating. The Rite of Committal will be held in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. The family will receive friends at the Chapel on Friday from 5-8 PM. Those desiring may make contributions to Father Flannigan's Original Boys Home, c/o Father Val J. Peter, Boys Town Center, Boys Town, NE 68010, or to DeWitt Senior Citizens, P.O. Box 280, DeWitt, MI 48820, in memory of Mrs. Hill.
