Age 82 of Chapin, Michigan passed away Friday, September 13, 2002 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns, Michigan. Carl and his wife Mary owned & operated Chapin General Store since 1948. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Mr. Alex McClelland and Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6-8 P.M. and Monday from 4-8 P.M. Carl was born on March 12, 1920 in Bannister, Michigan the son of Frank & Louise (Matousek) Goldman. On September 20, 1948 he married Mary Kadera. Carl grew up and worked on the family farm, eventually running the farm and he was also employed by Motor Wheel & General Motors. Carl and his wife Mary owned and operated Chapin General Store since 1948. He was a wonderful father and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family and friends. Carl made yearly moose hunting and fishing trips to Canada. He was a friend to anyone who needed a hand and he greatly enjoyed listening to WOAP Radio Station. Carl is survived by his wife Mary Goldman of Chapin, son, Carl & Kathy Goldman of Perry, 2 stepsons, Louis & Shirley Baron of Owosso, Allen & Carrie Baron of Owosso, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one sister, Ann Popoff of Maple Rapids. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers and four sisters. Memorial contributions may be made to WOES Radio Station or the Building Fund for Chapin Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Allen V. Myers died September 17, 2002 at the age of 85. He was born in Perrinton on May 6, 1917. He was a retired General Motors die setter and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. Allen married Eileen Counsellor in St. Johns on January 30, 1988 and she survives him. Also surviving are his daughter, Dolores Peters (Richard Grubaugh) of St. Johns, sons, Allen Lee Myers of Holt and Terry Lynn Myers of Ashley, step-daughters, Sandy (Bruce) Pifer, Nancy Lewis, all of St. Johns, and Barbara (Jerry) Bertram of Fowler, step-sons, Ed (Pat) Michalek of Orlando, FL and Bill (Trudy) Michalek of Springport, MI, eight grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Delcena Myers and his granddaughter, Lorraine Peters. Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, September 20, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. Ella L. Watts died Tuesday, September 17, 2002 at Ovid Healthcare at the age of 69. She was born November 29, 1932 the daughter of Raymond and Margaret (Slieght) Young. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and formerly worked at the St. Johns Chamber of Commerce and St. Johns Telephone Answering Service. Ella married John R. Watts February 27, 1954 and he preceded her in death October 8, 1996. Ella is survived by three daughters, Susan Chant, Sharon (Steve) Wadsworth and Sandra (Michael) Henry, two sons, David (Diane) Watts and Donald (Lisa) Watts, all of St. Johns, ten grandchildren, one sister, Rayola Schmidt of Haslett and two brothers, Robert (Rosalie) Young of Shaftsburg and Rodney (Eva) Young of Fairfax, Virginia. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 20, 2002 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 7-9 Wednesday & Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to Ovid Healthcare-Activities Department or American Diabetes Association. Doris Green died September 15, 2002 at Mid-Michigan Medical Center in Midland at the age of 84. She was born on April 13, 1918 in Laingsburg, Michigan to Theodore and Anna Belle (Holder) Euler and spent all of her years there until marrying Harold R. Green on December 9, 1939, at which time she moved to the country and became a farmers wife. Doris graduated from Laingsburg High School in 1936 and Owosso Business Institute in 1938. She worked at several secretarial positions during her working years; the last of which was working for her husband in his insurance agency. She very much enjoyed music, both as a listener and as a participant. She played the piano, clarinet, and violin. When she moved to the farm, it was said that she taught Harold to dance and he taught her to play cards. Doris is survived by her husband of sixty-two years, two daughters, Mary (Lanny) Waite of Midland, and Ardis (Doug) Monroe of Gagetown. Also there are three grandsons, Marc (Jennifer) Waite of Granger, Ind., Matt (Jennifer) Waite of Portage, Mich., and Ryan Waite of Chicago, Ill., and two step-granddaughters, Darlene (John) Borowski of Ortonville, and Darcie (Ryan) White of Bettendorf, Iowa. There are three lovely great grandchildren, Ashley, Trevor, and Olivia Waite, and two lovely step-great grandchildren, Emma and Mary Margaret Borowski. She is pre-deceased by her parents and one step grandson, Darin Monroe. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at the United
Church of Ovid, burial at Laingsburg Cemetery with Rev. Rob McPherson officiating.

the American Cancer Society. Marie Ann Dietrich died September 15, 2002 at the age of 61. She was born in Owosso, MI on August 1, 1941, the daughter of Donald and Wanda (Apsey) Dietrich. She was a clerk with the State of Michigan Lottery Department, a member of Shepardsville United Methodist Church and the Tri-Ami Womens Bowling League and was involved with Clinton County 4-H her whole life. Surviving are her mother, Wanda M. Dietrich, sisters, Diana (Gary) Munson of Elsie, Susan (Steve) Leonard of Lake Odessa and Ann (Stephen) Wilson of St. Johns, brother, Duane (Nancy) Dietrich of Holt, niece, Denise Dietrich of St. Johns, 11 nieces and nephews and 30 great nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 18, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Hillcrest Cemetery, Owosso, with Rev. Kay Pratt officiating. The family will receive friends 3-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Clinton County 4-H or the American Diabetes Association. Gilbert L. Cornell, Dansville Born July 5, 1927, in St. Johns; died September 14, 2002, at the age of 75. Mr. Cornell was preceded in death by his son, David. Surviving are his wife, Betty; 2 grandchildren, Adam and Sandy; 1 brother, Robert (Yvonne) of Midland; and 3 sisters, Ruth Loser of Battle Creek, Thelma Plowman and Gwenth Tait, both of St. Johns. There will be no services or visitation. The family is being served by Gorsline-Runciman Co. Ball-Dunn Chapel, Mason. Howard Christopher Witt, DeWitt, MI Passed away at his home September 13, 2002. He was born in Pike County, IL, in 1908 and came to Michigan with his parents in 1918. In 1935, he married Margaret Chadwick who survives him. Also surviving are his children, Jean Steavens, Marvin (Carol) Witt, Judy (Jim) Kingsley, Lyle Witt, Lee (Marty) Witt; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Paris Witt. Graveside services will be held Saturday, September 14, at noon in Wilsey Cemetery, Bond Road, DeWitt. Those desiring may make contributions to Clinton County Hospice, 304 N. Norris Age 92 of St. Johns, Michigan, loving mother & grandmother, passed away Wednesday, September 11, 2002 at her daughter's home. Graveside Services will be held Monday, September 16, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Lansing, Michigan with Rev. Jana Jirak officiating. Laura was born on February 1, 1910 in Roxand Township, Eaton County, Michigan, the daughter of Ellis & Maude (David) Davis. She is survived by one daughter, Patty Burns of St. Johns, MI, two sons, Earl & Helen Norris of Bullhead City, AZ, and Buddy & Marlene Norris of Sun City West, AZ, granddaughters, Pamela Currie, Sheryl Carder, Lori Jo Davey, eight great granddaughters, one great-great grandson, four sisters, one brother, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Husband, Earl E. Norris in 1983, grandson Patrick R. Burns in 1995, four sisters, and three brothers.
