Harold Ralph Hehrer

hehrer.jpg (3587 bytes)Age 69 of Ovid, Michigan passed away Sunday, September 29, 2002 at Owosso Memorial Healthcare in Owosso. He was a Lab Tech at Michigan Milk Producers Association and retired in 1995 after 37 years of service.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2002 at 1:00 P.M. at United Church of Ovid with Pastor Rob McPherson and Pastor Fred Fischer officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday 11:00 A.M. to 8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. There will also be a Masonic Service Tuesday evening at 7:30 P.M.

Harold was born on October 12, 1932 in Elsie, Michigan, the son of Louis and Edna (Brewbaker) Hehrer. He graduated from Petoskey High School with the Class of 1951. On February 9, 1957 he married Nancy Gilbert in Ovid, Michigan. He was a member of Elsie United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Ovid Lions Club, Masonic Lodge St. Johns-Ovid Chapter #105, Past Associate Guardian in Jobs Daughters, served on many committees in the United Methodist Church, and also served on Ovid Carriage Days committee. He resided most of his life in the Elsie and Ovid area.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Hehrer of Ovid, 1 daughter, Cindy of Ithaca, 2 sons, Tim & Lisa of Virginia, and Ken & Kathy of Ovid, 7 grandchildren, Jennifer, Jonathon, Eric, Kevin, Jessica, Meghan, and Sarah, 4 sisters, Marie & Robert Justice of Petoskey, Evelyn Lewis of Traverse City, Janice & Robert Kasik of Roscommon, Pauline & Mel Stodola of California, 3 brothers, Gerald & Juanita Carroll of Elsie, Howard & Joan Hehrer of Rockford, and Jerry & Bonnie Hehrer of Owosso, together they cared for 44 Foster children, and he is also survived by his sister & brother in laws. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Ron Hehrer and Lyle Carroll.

Memorials may be made to Lions Club First Sight Program or Arthritis Foundation. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Barbara A. "Bobby Anne" KirchenDeWitt Age 70, died September 28, 2002. Born October 12, 1931 in Escanaba, MI. Barb and Jake lived 40 years in the DeWitt Community, then moved to Lake City, MI, where they lived for 16 years. Recently they moved to Naples, FL.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Jacob; children; Gregg (Paulett) Kirchen of Saugatuck, MI, Karen (Tom) Taylor of Meguon, WI, Tom (Deb) Kirchen and Teresa (Dave) Koenigsknecht both of DeWitt; 10 grandchildren, Jessica and Andrea Kirchen, Nicole and Ryan Taylor, Paula (Thompson), April and Margo Kirchen, Audrey, Amber and Noah Koenigsknecht; 2 sisters, Charlotte (Gerald) Janousek of Burt Lake, MI, and Earlene Petrovich of Cadillac, MI.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, October 2, 11:00 AM at Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Road, DeWitt, with the Rev. Dr. Rodney J. Kalajainen, Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt Tuesday for a Memorial visitation from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of Clinton County, 304 Brush Street, St. Johns, MI 48879 in memory of Mrs. Kirchen.

Emily Irene Doss

Emily Irene Doss died Thursday, September 26, 2002 in Lansing.  Emily is the infant daughter of  Clayton and Amy (Good) Doss. 

Emily is also survived by her grandparents, Lloyd and Vicki Good, Richard and Judy Argersinger, and Bud and Anne Doss; great grandparents, Lila Argersinger and Terrie Bailey and Vera Doss and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Graveside services will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, September 29, 2002 at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns, MI.  Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the family or Ele’s Place, 600 W. St. Joe, Lansing, MI 48933 in memory of Emily.   The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Home.

James P. Davis

James P. Davis,  DeWitt Age 63, died September 25, 2002. Born May 5, 1939 in Huntington, West Virginia, Mr. Davis worked for Comprehensive Logistics and was an avid sports fan. He was preceded in death by his father, Everett and brother, Tom.

Surviving are his wife, Sue; 2 daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Davis-Baker and Devon Davis; 2 daughters, Peggy (Lynn) Vermuelen and Shellie (Scott) Cheetham; 1 granddaughter, Maggie Vermuelen; mother, Nellie Davis; 4 brothers, Ron (Sherrill), Everett (Lois), Jack (Pat) and Dick (Carol) Davis; 2 sisters, Beverly Shinosky and Pat (Howard) Sartin; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 30, 4:00 p.m. at Redeemer United Methodist Church, 13980 Schavey Road, DeWitt with the Rev. Dr. Rodney J. Kalajainen, Pastor, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to the DeWitt Athletic Boosters or the DeWitt Band Boosters in memory of James.

Jeanne Sophia Loomis

Jeanne Sophia Loomis passed away peacefully and painlessly on September 24th, 2002 in Bremerton, Washington with her husband, Stanley, her son, Ted, and her daughter-in-law, Megan, at her side.

Jeanne was born September 5th, 1918 to Schuyler L. Marshall and Eula (Foerch) Marshall in Mason, Michigan. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School in St. Johns, Michigan and Michigan State College (now University) in East Lansing, Michigan. On June 11th, 1949, Jeanne married Stanley R. Loomis at the First Methodist Church in St. Johns. She and Stanley were master gardeners and enjoyed traveling together throughout the United States and Canada. Upon her retirement from Clinton National Bank's Trust Department, Jeanne became a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital, which her father, former publisher of the Clinton County Republican News, helped establish.

Jeanne was a loving wife and mother. She is survived by her husband, Stanley, of Poulsbo, Washington and their son, Theodore Schuyler Loomis, and his wife, Megan Somerville-Loomis, of Seattle. As well, Jeanne's sister Martha Tillotson, lives in Beaver Creek, Ohio and her brother, (Bill) Schuyler Marshall, Jr., resides in Santa Maria, California. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Marshall, and sisters Ruth Clohset and Mary Stuckey.

There will be no funeral; however, a memorial service will be held Saturday, October 5th, 2pm, at the Chapel in Martha and Mary's Health Center in Poulsbo. A celebration of her life will be scheduled at a later date. Jeanne will be interred in The Tahoma National Cemetery, Kent, Washington. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Clinton Memorial Hospital (St Johns, MI), Martha and Mary Nursing Home (Poulsbo, WA), or a charity of your choice.

G. Brian Gradwell

Gradwell-Brian.jpg (9490 bytes)(Gordon) Brian Gradwell died Wednesday, September 25, 2002 at the age of 40. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on May 28, 1962, the son of Gordon Thomas and Eunice Mae (Reynolds) Gradwell.  Brian graduated from Plainwell High School in 1980 and earned his bachelors degree from M.S.U.  He was a member of the Eureka Christian Church and past Vice President of Gideons.  Brian worked as an Advertising Sales Representative for the Clinton County News in St. Johns.  He married Christine J. Bengry on May 13, 1989 and she survives him. 

Also surviving are his children, Stephanie and Cody Gradwell, Greg Pearce of Mt.Pleasant and Kim Pearce of East Lansing, two brothers, James Gradwell of Watson, Michigan and Mike (Jennifer) Gradwell of Plainwell, nieces and nephews, Meridon, Aiden, Lucas, Kevin, Kathleen, Jennifer, Meighan and Kyle.  Brian was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, September 28, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home in St.  Johns with Pastor Bob Ditmer officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to an education fund for his children.

Russell C. McCarthy

Russell C. McCarthy, 71, of St. Johns passed away Sept. 23, 2002 at Mid-Michigan Hospice House.  He was born Sept. 10, 1931 in St. Johns the son of Loyd S. and Bertha L. Tubbs McCarthy.  He worked for livingston County Sheriff Department and retired from St. Joseph Hospital in 1990 from the Security Deparmtnet.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served in the United States Navy.  He resided most of his life in the Howell and St. Johns areas. He married Delores Stephens in St. Johns Feb. 7, 1953.  Delores died March 3, 2002.

He is survived by daughters, Suzanne (Jerry) Stuhrberg of Howell, Debbie (Tim) Ruch of Tecumseh and Katherine (Merlyn) Niles of Howell; son Mike (Laura) McCarthy; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; sisters Maxine Johnson and Faye (Clay) Reeves; many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Garnet McCarthy, Leon Adams, Ray Adams; and sister Betty Capron.

There were no services.  Burial was at Ft. Custer National Cemetery, Augusta. Memorials may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice House, Lansing.

Shirley Burk

Shirley Burk, 42, of Clearwater, Fla., and formerly of St. Johns, passed away July 8, 2002 in Clearwater.

Surviving is her mother, Vineta (Silm) Hilt; two sisters, Melanie Young of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Deb Marchmen of Atlanta, Ga.; and one brother, Bill Burk. She was preceded in death by her father, Gerald Burk.

Burial was at St. Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery.
