Eileen Kay (Boak) Monasmith

Eileen Kay (Boak) Monasmith, loving daughter, sister, friend, mother and grandmother, died October 15, 2002 at the age of 52 and will be greatly missed by everyone who met her. She was born in St. Johns on February 27, 1950, the daughter of Carl and Alma (Nobis) Boak. Eileen was employed at Michigan State University for 34 years working in the library, med tech and most recently as an administrative assistant to the Dean of Records for the College of Natural Science. She was a life member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, sang in the choir, enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, sewing and being there for people at their “special moments” as a caterer. She will be spending eternity as a guardian angel to her grandchildren. 

Surviving are her son, Jonathan (Nicole) Monasmith of St. Johns, granddaughter, Dakota, grandsons, Colte, Cauy and Weston, parents, Carl and Alma (Nobis) Boak of St. Johns, sister, Jeanette (Larry) Barbour of St. Johns, brothers, Allen (Carol) Boak, Robert (Linda) Boak, all of Lansing and Richard (Cheri) Boak of St. Johns, several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, and special friends, Becky Murthum, Delores Weber and Marie Hensley.  

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 19, 2002 at St. Johns Lutheran Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. George Brinley and Rev. Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Thursday and 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Friday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of a contribution to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Children’s Leukemia Foundation. 

Mark Richard Holton

Mark Richard Holton,  44, farmer and bee keeper, died Sunday October 13, 2002 of natural causes. Services 11 a.m. Thursday at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel.

Esther L. Jacoby (Wilcox)

Esther_Jacoby.jpg (11096 bytes)Esther L. Jacoby (Wilcox) age 86, died on October 6 at Heartland of Marietta, Ohio. Esther resided in St. Johns, Michigan for 29 years with her husband Richard V. (Dick) Jacoby. While in St. Johns they were active members of the First Congregational Church where Esther sang in the choir for many years. Esther worked as a dietician’s assistant at Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns, and was a member of the “Morning Musicale.” Born on Sept. 16, 1916, in Glouster, Ohio, she was the daughter of William C. and Laura Wilcox. She graduated from Vincent High School and attended Ohio University.

Devoted wife and mother, she was preceded in death by her husband and by an infant son, Charles. She is survived by a son, William D. Jacoby and his wife Anne of Marietta, a daughter Ruth Barnes of Hacienda Hts. California, and a daughter Carol Canavan and her husband Milton Webster of North Canton, Ohio; 10 Grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Services were held on October 9 at Hadley Funeral Home in Marietta.

Raymond "R.G." Becher

Raymond “R.G.” Becher, died October 12, 2002 at the age of 90. Born in Clinton county on December 24, 1911, he was the son of Homer and Kittie Becher. A Fireman for the St. Johns Fire Department for 23 years and the founding secretary of The Alert Firemans Association. 

He is survived by his wife Florence Becher, son, Douglas Becher of Hastings, daughter Bonnie (Larry) Main of Lansing, brother, Miles Becher of St. Johns, sister, Dorothy Knight of St. Johns and 15 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Homer and Kittie Becher, daughter Deanna Droste, son, Richard Becher and grandson, Timothy Butler. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Steve Weinberger officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions made to Clinton Memorial Hospital.

Anna  Ondruesk

Ondrusek-Anna.jpg (9601 bytes)Anna D. Ondrusek died October 11, 2002, at the age of 89. Born February 2, 1913 in Bannister, the daughter of Anthony and Maria (Otrhalek) Sedlar and lived in Clinton County most of her life.  She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society-St. Anne Guild.  Anna married Joseph Ondrusek January 21, 1933 in Bannister and he preceded her in death July 28, 1988.   

Anna is survived by one son, Joseph (Vicky) Ondrusek of Elsie, two daughters, Barbara (Jim) Ernst of St. Johns and Joann (Jerry) Koenigsknecht of Gaylord, 20 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, and one sister, Mary Konecny of Durand.   In addition to her husband, Anna was preceded in death by one son, James Ondrusek, two daughters, Rosemary Rewerts and Patricia Taylor, two son-in-laws Tom Taylor and Norman Rewerts, two granddaughters, Jacqui and Wendy Taylor, and one sister, Lena Fabus. 

Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Wednesday October 16, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday and Tuesday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a Rosary at 7 P.M. Monday and a vigil service 7 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Abigail "Abi" Arias

Abigail "Abi" AriasMason Formerly of St. Johns Died October 12, 2002 at the age of 38. Born in Lyford, Texas on December 31, 1963, she was the daughter of Gamaliel and Victoria (Espinoza) Arias. She was a Boy Scout Leader, Den Mother and loved to garden, dance and most of all she loved her family.

She is survived by her three lovely children, Myles Frye, Taylor Frye and Erica Arias, all of Mason. Her mother, Victoria Arias of St. Johns, Five sisters, Lydia (Pedro) Guerrero of Donna, Texas, Maria Elena (Hector) Trevino of Donna, Texas, Yolanda (Rogelio) Pena of Houston, Texas, Norma (Joe) Caudy of Freeland, Stella (David) Sturgis of St. Johns, two brothers, Fernando Zamora of Texas, Francisco (Yolanda) Zamora of Houston, Texas, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and her special friend Lynell Cauthier of Lansing. Abi was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 15, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends Monday 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. at the Osgood Funeral Home with a Vigil Service at 7:00 P.M. on Monday.

Mandolyn Irene Gier

Mandolyn Irene GierDeWitt Formerly of Lansing Our loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother went to be with her Lord on October 12,2002, at the age of 94. Born March 19, 1908 in Alverton, Ohio, Mrs. Gier was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples) of Lansing and was employed at Liebermans. She volunteered at Ingham Medical for many years in the gift shop. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold James Gier in 1965.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Lynda (Robert) Segraves of DeWitt; 3 grandchildren, Shelly (Phillip) Stewart of DeWitt, Susan (John) Deyo of Grand Ledge and Greg (Jennifer) Segraves of Ludington; 7 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Thelma Hinkle of Fort Myers, FL.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 17, 11:00 AM at the First Christian Church (Disciples), 1001 Chester, Lansing with the Rev. Rick Boyd, Pastor, officiating. Interment will he held in Edon Cemetery, Edon, Ohio. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Robert Lee Kosloski

Robert Lee Kosloski,  Lansing, MI Age 51, died October 10, 2002. Born January 10, 1951 in Lansing, Robert was employed at Builders Redi-Mix in Quality Control. He was an avid Michigan State fan, a member of the DeWitt Moose Lodge # 2291, SAL-Bath and played many sports, including golf. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lena and 2 sisters, Darlene and Wanda Lee.

Surviving are his wife of 24 years, Joanne; 1 son, Jeffrey of Denver, CO; step-son, Scott Sherwood of Honolulu, HI; father, Carl of DeWitt; 2 brothers, Raymond (Peggy) of Farwell and Douglas (Darlene) of Lansing; 1 sister, Bertha (Leo) Gilmore of Farwell.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 14, 2:00 PM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing, with the Rev. James R. Lichtenberger, Pastor of Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos. Betty M. Churchill

Betty M. Churchill, DeWitt, MI Age 60, died October 10, 2002. Born May 30, 1942 in Owosso, Mrs. Churchill loved gardening, quilting and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ila and Edward Luft and the father of her children, Richard L. Churchill.

Surviving are her 2 daughters, Debra Churchill and Robin (Joseph) Cram; 2 sons, Michael (Sharon) and Richard N. Churchill; 13 grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Chadwick, Cody, and Taralyn Churchill, William Churchill, Melvenia and Angela Truehill, Jonathon, Victoria and Joshua Churchill, Brigitte and Natasha Cram; 2 brothers, Lyle and Allen Luft; 2 sisters, Ruth Matousek and Jeannie Vanderlip.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 15, at Noon at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Avenue, Lansing. Interment will follow in East Lawn Memory Gardens, Okemos. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Sunday and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

William G. "Bill" Lemke

lemke.jpg (3421 bytes)Age 82 of Ovid, Michigan passed away Wednesday, October 09, 2002 at the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing, Michigan. He was employed by International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) for over 50 years, retiring in 1984.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 12, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. Merlin Pratt will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie. Visitation will be Thursday from 6-8:00 P.M. and Friday from 2-4:00 and 6-8:00 P.M.

Bill was born on June 29, 1920 in Gilby, North Dakota the son of George W. and Minnie (Franz) Lemke. He attended Polk County Schools. On November 19, 1947 he married Jean Yerian in Crookston, Minnesota. Bill loved gardening, yard work, and cooking. He also loved to tinker with and fix things. In the past, he was in charge of Bingo at the American Legion. He served as Commander and in several other offices in the American Legion. He has always been a USA patriot, advocating for "Buy American". Devoted husband and father, his grandchildren and great grandchild were his life's joy. He attended Elsie United Methodist Church and was a very active member of the American Legion, VFW and IBEW Local #665 in Lansing. Bill resided in Crookston, Minnesota from 1947-1966. He then moved to Elsie in 1966 and had resided in Ovid since 1977.

Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jean Lemke of Ovid, four children, Gordon Lemke of Ithaca, Cheryl Lemke & David Shough of Santa Monica, CA, Nancy & Tom Hughson of Ovid, Randy & Beverly Lemke of Elsie, 4 grandchildren, John Lemke, Jody & Craig Thornton, Jaclyn & Chip Simon, Cody Leslie and one great grandson, Grant Thornton.

Memorials may be made to Elsie United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
