Kimmy K. Ohlemacher Kimmy K. Ohlemacher, 35, Michigan Restaurant Association director of communications, died Wednesday November 20, 2002. Services 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Johns. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Betty J. Farhat, 69, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of DeWitt, died Tuesday November 19,2002. Arrangements by Palm Mortuary, Las Vegas, Nev. Eleanor T. Bedenbender, Lansing, MI Formerly of Westphalia, MI Age 87, passed on Monday, November 18, 2002. She was born on December 7, 1914 in Westphalia, the daughter of John and Clara (Spitzley) Hufnagel. Mrs. Bedenbender retired from General Motors in 1976 after 30 years of service and was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church in Lansing. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an avid bowler and loved to play cards. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 brothers, and 4 sisters. Surviving are her children, Joyce (Delbert) Thelen of Westphalia, and Perry Bredenbender of Burnsville, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Wirth of Westphalia; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 AM. Thursday, November 21, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia, from 7-9 PM Tuesday and 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday. The rosaries will be prayed at 8 PM Tuesday and 3 and 8 PM Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the American Alzheimer's Association, in memory of Eleanor T. Bedenbender. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. Joe VanRooyen, St. Johns, died Saturday, November 16, 2002 at the age of 79. He was born in Amsterdam, Holland on March 19, 1923, the son of Johannes and Johanna (Pieters) VanRooyen. He was a veteran of World War II and a Nazi concentration camp survivor. He immigrated to the United States in 1955. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the owner of VanRooyen Shoes and Repair in St. Johns. Carolyn, his wife of 30 years, survives him. Also surviving are his children; Theresa Riley-Lane (Fred Lane) of Colorado, Frances (Eric) Mohnke of St. Johns, Richard (Annette) VanRooyen of St. Johns, Margaret (Shawn) Young of Ionia, Patrick (Lori) Riley of Ft. Wayne, IN, Rosemary (Alan) Cook of St. Johns, Joyce (Bradley) Rinckey of Lansing, Michael (Julia) VanRooyen of Baltimore, MD, Michael (Doreen) Riley of St. Johns, William Riley of St. Johns, 34 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, four brothers, Gary (Maria) VanRooyen of Grand Rapids, Huub, Theo, Ton VanRooyen of Holland, two sisters, Rita DeDroog of Georgia and Corrie (Piet) Souwer of Holland. His first wife, Trudy, preceded him in death. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, November 19, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Innocent Kujur officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Osgood Funeral Home with a rosary prayed at 7:00 P.M. Monday. Montague, Ovid, Age 75, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died November 15, 2002. Born in Elsie on July 5, 1927, she was the daughter of Harold J. and Vera B. (Black) Walker. She was an avid gardener and loved crocheting. Patricia was married for 48 years until her husband Gerald A. Montague, Sr. passed away July 3, 2001. She is survived by three sons, Gerald A. Montague, Jr. of Ovid, Harold John (Dorothy) Montague of Lake City, Roger (Judy) Montague of Perry; two daughters, Sharon (Wes) Guernsey of Elsie, Carol (Wayne) Ford of Charlotte; 15 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Walker of Lansing and Bill Walker of Springport, MI. In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her daughter, Patty Ann Montague. Funeral services will be 1:30 P.M. Thursday, November 21, 2002 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, Ovid, with burial at Laingsburg Cemetery with Pastor Larry Smith officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday and Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. Helen A. Richards died November 15, 2002 at the age of 99. She was born in Yale, MI on February 23, 1903, the daughter of Charles H. and Lillian (Hennessey) Palmer. She was a member of the First Congregational Church. Helen married William F. Richards, Sr. on October 10, 1924 and he preceded her in death on November 22, 1972. Surviving are her sons, William (Jenny) Richards of St. Johns, Thomas Richards of Denver, CO and C. Jack Richards of Ada, MI and fifteen grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a son, James Richards. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Sherry Yvonne Youngs died November 14, 2002 at the age of 48. Born May 5, 1954 in Shiawassee County, MI, the daughter of Max and Catherine (Phillips) Slocum. Sherry enjoyed outdoor activities, bird watching, hunting and fishing. She married Reo Youngs on August 29, 1980 and he survives her. Also surviving are three children, Christopher of Portage, Reo and Elizabeth of Maple Rapids, three sisters, Jodean, Julie and Becky, one brother, Scott, and father, Max Slocum of Ludington. Sherry was preceded in death by her mother, Catherine. Funeral Services will be 4:00 P.M. Sunday, November 17, 2002 at the Osgood Funeral

wishes. Shirley K. Campbell, 60, of Clearwater, Fla., died Nov. 12, 2002 at her home with her family at her side after a long bout with cancer. She was born in St. Johns and moved to Florida from Grand Rapids in 1984. She graduated from Rodney B. Wilson High School, and Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. She worked as an accountant. She met her husband, Gary, at a dance in Pompeii. Survivors include her husband, Gary A.; daughter, Glenda Ann Workman of Palm Harbor, Fla.; sons, Glenn A. of Palm Harbor and Gary A. of Tampa, Fla.; brothers, Duane VanHorn of Evart and Tom VanHorn of Holt; and four grandchildren. The family was served by the Clearwater Funeral Home in Florida. L.D. Everts, 70 of Phoenix, Ariz., entered into rest Nov. 8, 2002 at his home after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. L.D. was born July 20, 1932 in Brant, to Ernest Everts and Ruth Roesner Everts. He served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War. L.D. was a master electrician and owned Everts Electric in Owosso before moving to Phoenix in 1983. He belonged to the Bay City Consistory and Ovid Masonic Lodge, Shiawassee Shrine Fire Brigade. Upon moving to Phoenix he became active in El Zaribah Shrine. His free time was spent working for his church, helping friends and playing golf. He was president of the Board of Trustees of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. While in Arizona he worked out of IBEW 640 for the Palo Verde Nuclear Plant as an electrical foreman, and retired from Cannon Wendt Electric in 1997. He was a loyal friend to many and will be missed by family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Irvin; and two nephews. He is survived by his loving wife, Gail; sons, Ernest Everts of DeWitt, David Everts of Durand; daughters, Connie Sloan of Peoria, Ariz. and Sally Wilson of Ovid; and stepson Barry Lyon of Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; sisters Helen (Dave), Lotridge of St. Charles, Dorothy (Lyle) Yerrick of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Irene (Buck) Pacek of Owosso. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Dec. 7 at the United Church of Ovid, 131 Front St., Ovid. 'Vern' Kelley, 88, of Kingsley, and formerly of Elsie and Southfield, died Nov. 11, 2002. He was born Sept. 2, 1914, in Kalkaska County, to Joseph C. and Nora (Spooner) Kelley. Vern married Dealia Perhall, Oct. 23, 1937, in Kingsley. Vern was a truck driver for Rogers Cartage of Royal Oak, retiring in 1971. It was following his retirement that he moved from the Southfield area and returned to Kingsley. He enjoyed the scenic area in which he lived and was an avid golfer. Vern is survived by children, Evelyn Sehl of Kingsley, Basil Kelley of Bannister, Verna Kelley of Elsie, Fredric (Sandra S.) Kelley of Elsie, Victoria Kelley of Kingsley, and Hope Kelley of Kingsley; 23 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several great, great grandchildren; three brothers; four sisters, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dealia in 1991; son, Roy Thomas Kelley; four brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Nov. 15, at Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley with Rev. Arthur Covell officiating. Interment was in Barnum Cemetery in Mayfield. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice. Arrangements were entrusted to Covell-Smith Funeral Home in Kingsley. Helen M. Peck, 90, of Elsie, died Nov. 14, 2002 at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. She was born May 9, 1912 in Gratiot County, the daughter of Florian and Bina (Haas) Matthews. She graduated from St. Johns High School with the Class of 1930. She was a homemaker and she taught at the country school in Washington Center, Gratiot County. Helen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Bannister, United Methodist Women and Clinton County Farm Bureau. She lived most of her life in the Elsie area. She married Wayne Peck May 21, 1933 in Rochester Colony. Surviving are her husband, Wayne Peck of Elsie; three sons, Dale (Sharon) Peck of Bannister, Carl (Rose) Peck of Elsie and Roger (Elaine) Peck of Raleigh, N.C.; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren; three sisters, Eva Shinabery of St. Johns, Cressie Wakefield of Adrian and Mary Schlarf of St. Johns; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and one infant daughter. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Nov. 18, at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel with the Rev. Jana Jirak officiating; burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m., Nov. 16 and 17, with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8. Memorials may be made to the Bannister United Methodist Church. Brian D. Simmon, 22, of Ionia, passed away Nov. 10, 2002 in Ionia. He was born May 28, 1980 in St. Johns the son of David A. and Jean (Roach) Simmon. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, St. Johns. He is survived by his father, David Simmon of Ionia; mother, Jean Simmon of Newberry; sisters, Wendy Simmon of Lansing, Nikole Simmon of St. Johns; half sisters, Janice of Rainbow Lake and Traci Behl of St. Johns.
