Sherrie L. Sattler
Sherrie
L. Sattler died December 17, 2002 at the age of 39. She was born in Carson
City on January 30, 1963, the daughter of Richard and Anna (Taege) Gault.
She worked as a legal secretary at Kitch Law Firm for 17 years and was
active in the community. Sherrie married Daniel Sattler in Maple Rapids
on April 11, 1987 and he survives her.
She was a loving mother to Zackary
and Christopher. Also surviving are her mother, Anna Gault of St. Johns,
brothers and sisters, Linda Houlden of Charlevoix, Bill Redman, John (Debbie)
Redman, all of Boyne City, Tom Redman of Ada, Robert (Lisa) Gault of Owosso,
David (Janet) Gault, Cheryl Moyer and Gail (Dana) Bliss, and many nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Gault.
Funeral services will be
11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2002 at the Congregational Christian
Church in Maple Rapids, burial at Payne Cemetery with Pastor
Jerry Kissling officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8
P.M. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Abbott Chapel of the
Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. Memorials may be made to
the Congregational Christian Church.

C. Bancroft
Steven
C. Bancroft died December 17, 2002 at the age of 63. He was born in St.
Johns on August 11, 1939, the son of Wilbur and Velma (Groves) Bancroft.
He was a truck driver, former volunteer fireman for Maple Rapids Fire
Department and member of Elk’s Lodge #1400 in Alma. Steven married Ruth
Studt on July 19, 1958 and she preceded him in death on March 31, 1995.
He married Nancy Cooper on June 26, 1998 and she survives him.
Also surviving are his children,
Judy Rene’ (James) Frantz of Perrinton, Lori Ann (Glen) Gillespie of Thompsonville,
MI and Stephanie Marie Bancroft of St. Johns, step sons, Gary (Peggy)
Cooper of Ithaca and Brett (Kathy) Cooper of Breckenridge, thirteen grandchildren,
seven great grandchildren, brothers, James (Brenda) Bancroft of Barryton
and Kurt (Joy Hardman) Bancroft of Lansing, Aunt, Lois (Jerry) Darlymple
of Lansing, uncle, Bruce (Nancy) Bancroft of Indianapolis, IN, several
sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, several nieces and nephews and his little
buddy, Max. In addition to his first wife he was preceded in death by
his parents.

11:00 A.M. Friday, December 20, 2002 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood
Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids, burial at Beach Cemetery with Pastor
John Mellish officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8

Thomas “Tom” Van Ells
Lawrence
Thomas “Tom” Van Ells died Friday, December 6, 2002 in California at the
age of 62. He was born October 2, 1940 the son of Edgar and Eleanor (Fernholz)
Van Ells and lived in St. Johns before moving to California. He worked
as a swimming pool installer for several years.
Tom is survived by two daughters,
Cathy and Debbie, one son, Jeff, all of California, eight sisters, Donna
Mae Kuripla, Josephine Rogers, Rita (Stanley) Thelen, Alice Gallagher,
Thelma Miller, all of St. Johns, Helen Zezza of New Jersey, Dorothy (Carl)
Witt of Dewitt and Ruth Hufnagel of Lansing, three brothers, Richard (Rosie)
Van Ells of Fowler, James Van Ells of Lansing and Michael (Peggy) Van
Ells of St. Johns, several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death
by his parents, one sister, Arlene Redman Walling and two brothers, Dale
Patrick Van Ells and William Van Ells. Tom’s wishes were to be cremated.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Friday, December
27, 2002 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy
officiating. The family will receive friends in the vestibule
of the church from 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. Memorial donations may
be made to the charity of the donors choice. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral

Ruth
J. (Closterhouse) Barclay
Ruth
J. (Closterhouse) Barclay, age 86, went to be with the Lord on December
15, 2002. She was born June 2, 1916 in Jenison, MI. Ruth was the daughter
of Augustus and Martha Closterhouse. Ruth was a wife and mother extraordinaire
as well as working at the Clark and Hulse Clothing Store and the St. Johns
Public Schools as an administrative secretary. She was a member of the
First United Methodist Church and was very active in the choir and in
committees. Ruth is survived by her husband of 67 years, Marvin Barclay.
They were married on September 13, 1935.
Also surviving are two daughters,
Doris J. (Rev. Ronald) Potter of Medina, Ohio, and Beverly A. (Alan) Davis
of St. Johns. Ruth had four grandsons, J. Thomas Potter, James C. Potter,
Marc C. Matson, and Aaron C. Davis, Three great-grandsons, Nicholas, Nathan,
and Nash Potter, and two great-grand daughters, Jessica and Nora Potter.
A daughter, Joan L. Barclay, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M.
Thursday, December 19, 2002 at the First United Methodist Church of St.
Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Carol Floyd officiating.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 3-5 and 6-8 P.M. at the
Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorial contributions may be made to
the First United Methodist Church of St. Johns or to the Ovid Healthcare
Center.

I. Bailey
Vera
I. Bailey died Friday, December 13, 2002 at the age of 93. She was born
June 10, 1909 the daughter of J.C. and Laura (Richard) Ackles. Vera was
a retired clerk from Clinton County Probate Court, formerly worked at
the Carol Ann Shop and past volunteer for the Clinton Memorial Hospital
Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church
where she participated in many church activities. Vera married Roy C.
Bailey August 15, 1926 and he preceded her in death October 24, 1969.
She is survived by one daughter,
Betty (Lavern-"Red") Silm of St. Johns, grandchildren, Diane Crawford
and Bob Caulder of St. Johns, Colleen (Harry) Costan of St. Johns, Mike
Robinson of Ovid, Melinda (Tom) Motz of Dewitt, Jeff (Julie) Silm and
Eric (Maureen) Silm of St. Johns, 12 great grandchildren, 8 great great
grandchildren, sister, Margaret Bobier of St. Johns and brother, Glen
Ackles of Okemos. In addition to her husband, Vera was preceded in death
by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Dale Robinson and grandson,
Gary Silm.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 17, 2002 at Osgood
Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Jeffrey Heimsoth.

Anna
Trujillo, Elsie, MI Age 91, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2002 in
DeWitt, MI. Anna was born in Mexico on March 27, 1911 to Narciso and Luisa
(Gaytan) Ortiz. She married the late Pedro Trujillo in April of 1934 in
St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister, MI. She then married the late
Antonio Amaya in May of 1965 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Owosso,
MI. She worked in the sewing department as a seamstress at Mitchell &
Bently Company of Owosso. She also worked in Maintenance for Pentwater
Wire and she retired from there. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic
Church in Bannister and a member of St. Cyril's Altar Society. She resided
most of her life in Owosso and Elsie.
Survivors include, daughter,
Dolores (John) Flores of DeWitt, MI; son, Albert (Juanita) Trujillo of
Bannister, MI; 8 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren;
2 brothers, Frank (Lupe) Ortiz and Fernando (Olga) Ortiz; and 1 sister,
Sara (Marshal) Hernandez. She was predeceased by her parents, 2 husbands,
2 grandson, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will
be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister, MI on Monday, December
16, 2002 at 10 AM. Visitation will be Saturday from 5-8 PM and
Sunday from 1-8 PM with family present from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral
home. A Rosary will be prayed Sunday, December 15, 2002. Burial, St. Paul's
Cemetery in Owosso, MI. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Clinton County
or St. Cyril's Catholic Church of Bannister. The family is being served

Ann Gierman
Laurie Ann Gierman died December
11, 2002 at the age of 40. She was born in Lansing on February 19, 1962,
the daughter of Verner and Mary M. (Schonhofen) Rasmussen. She was a mail
clerk for AIG Insurance Company.
Surviving are her daughters, Esther and Bethany, both of Ovid, mother, Mary Rasmussen
of Lansing, sisters, Suzanne (James) Dunbar, Kathryn Rasmussen, Sharon (Daryl) Haman, Anna
Stivers, all of Lansing, Denise (Tim) Kouns of Illinois and Christine (Michael) Malkin of
South Carolina, special friend, Ernie Wilson and his son, Dylan. She was preceded in death
by her father, Verner Rasmussen.
Funeral Mass will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 14, 2002 at Holy Family Catholic
Church, Ovid, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Paul Cummings
officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Osgood
Funeral Home, St. Johns and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may

Anna A. Brown age 84 of Bannister, died Saturday, December
07, 2002 at Ashley Healthcare Center.
She was born on April 17 1918 in Gratiot County, Michigan the daughter of Frank &
Barbara ( Rosenkranz ) Smejkal.
On October 7, 1939 Anna married Raymond Brown in Angola, Indiana. Raymond died December
31, 1986. She was a homemaker, and enjoyed being with her grandchildren, and doing
crossword puzzles, gardening and polka music. She was a member of St. Cyrils
Catholic Church and a member of the First Catholic Slovak Union ( JENOTA ).
She is survived by 4 daughters, Carol & Laddie Kral of Ashley, Gloria & Jeff
Helms of Bannister, Debbie & Don Hansen of St. Johns, Laura & Jack Tuffelmire of
Buckley, 2 sons, Fred & Peggy Brown of Rochester, Ken & Cheryl Brown of Bannister,
24 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren. Her parents, 1 son,
Ron, 1 grandson, Jeff, 2 sisters & 9 brothers predeceased her.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at St. Cyrils
Catholic Church in Bannister. Visitation will be Sunday 6-8 P.M. and Monday 2-8 P.M. with
family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. A Prayer service will be Monday evening at 6:00 P.M. at
Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery,
Elsie, Michigan. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimers Foundation. The family is
being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
Michael
Joseph Gallagher
Michael Joseph Gallagher, 55, passed away Dec. 8, 2002, after a short but courageous
battle with cancer.
Mike received degrees from Western Michigan University, University of Michigan Dental
School, and University of Detroit School of Endodontics. He was an avid golfer and diehard
Michigan fan.
He is survived by his wife Lynn; daughters,
Erin and her fiance, Todd Miller, Betsy and son-in-law, Chad Ham; his
mother, Maxine Gallagher and her special friend Tom Lampley; his brother,
Pat and Lisa Gallagher; his sister, Colleen and Will Blossey; brothers
and sisters-in-law, Jon and Cindy Rice, Kip and Connie Walworth, Joe Walworth;
and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held Dec. 12
at St. Pius X Church with Fr. George Darling, Presider. Memorials may
be made to Hospice of West Michigan or the American Cancer Society. The
family was served by the Cook Funeral Home, Grandville.
