Maynard
Blaine Maynard, 72, of DeWitt, died Dec. 20, 2002. He was born March 23,
1930 in Inez, Kent.
Mr. Maynard enjoyed bluegrass music, especially Ralph Stanley; nature,
hunting, fishing and woodworking. He made his own banjo and furniture.
He was a fan of comedians, Laurel and Hardy, Red Skeleton and Benny Hill.
He liked to watch bull riding, the British comedy 'Are You Being Served?'
and spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Laura Maynard; brothers,
Elton and Joe Maynard; sisters, Rosie Compton and Brenda Sue Patrick;
two infant sisters.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Marilyn; daughters, Debra Willis (Bruce
Kretzinger) of Hesperia and Laura (David) Brooks of Bath; son, Darrell
(Cathy) Maynard; grandchildren, Jamie Maynard, Derek Maynard, Sarah Willis,
Kay Kretzinger and Brenna Brooks; brothers, Brady (Ethel), Belford (Vernie),
Glen (Lisa) and Raymond Maynard; sister, Norma Slone.
Funeral services were held, Dec. 23 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt
Chapel, with Pastor Robert Grimwood of Lake Lansing Baptist Church, officiating.
Interment followed in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt. Those desiring may make
contributions to the Christian Appalachian Project in memory of Mr. Maynard.

L. Day
Earl
L. Day died Tuesday, December 24, 2002 at the age of 88. He was born in
Olive Township, Michigan October 25, 1914 the son of Ernest and Clara
(Carey) Day and he lived and farmed in Clinton and Shiawassee Counties
all of his life. He was a member of Price United Methodist Church, St.
Johns Senior Center, and U.A.W. Local #602 having retired from Fisher
Body after 28 years of service. He married Alice Moore on February 14,
1939 and she preceded him in death April 12, 1980.
Earl is survived by his second
wife, Dorothy (Dietrich) Phinney Day whom he married on January 10, 1981.
Also surviving are his children, Duane (Andrea) Day and Carol Ann (Gerard)
Thomas, both of Laingsburg, stepchildren, Geraldine (Arlond “Ike”)
Pearsall of Dewitt, Ruth (Kenneth) Quincy of Clinton Township, MI, and
James (Elaine) Phinney of Clinton, Utah, 10 grandchildren, and 9 great
grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M.
Friday, December 27, 2002 at Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery
with Rev. Kay Pratt officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and
6-8 Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Price United
Methodist Church or National Kidney Foundation.
Irene
Josephine Huhn
Irene Josephine Huhn, 88, passed away Dec. 22, 2002. She was born March
19, 1914 in Westphalia the daughter of Charles and Regina (Feneis) Schrauben.
Mrs. Huhn was a member at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Portland and
enjoyed playing cards and watching sporting events.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Melvin (Fran) Huhn;
grandsons, Randy Huhn and Jeffrey Jegla; granddaughter, Jamie Huhn; great-great
granddaughter Jennifer Huhn; sisters, Dorothy Fedewa and Magdalen 'Jerry'
Turpin; brothers, Roman, Robert, Harold, and Ronald Schrauben.
Surviving are a daughter, JoAnne (Charles) Jegla of Westphalia; sons,
Stanley (Patricia) Huhn of Grand Ledge, Ronald (Dawn) Huhn of Portland,
Dale (Annabelle) Huhn of Portland, and Larry (Diane) Huhn of Portland;
21 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter;
sisters, Margaret 'Peg' Gregg of Grand Rapids; brothers, Mark Schrauben
of Fowler and Charles Schrauben of Lansing; numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was conducted by the Rev. Shamaun Beas, Associate
Pastor, Dec. 27 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal
took place in Portland Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman
Funeral Home. Contributions may be made to the St. Patrick's Building
Fund.
Pedro
Zamarron
Pedro Zamarron, 81, of Crystal died Dec. 22, 2002 at Pine River Healthcare
Center in St. Louis. He was born April 23, 1921 in Terlinzua, Texas, the
son of Aurelio and Sipriana (Vaga) Zamarron.
Pedro worked at Waldron's Saw Mill for 28 yers. He served in the U.S.
Army and was very active in many area churchs.
He is survived by two daughters, LuEvea Holmes of Lansing and Lena Commet
of St. Johns; four sons, Aurelio (Hank) Zamarron of Lansing, Pedro (Mike)
and Trudy Zamarron of St. Johns, and Deanna and Dale Brininstool of Stanton,
and Duane and Dorothy Zamarron of Sheridan; 18 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosie Wing of Middleton and Isabel and
Milton Plant of Georgia; and brother, Ray and Virginia Zamarron of Crystal.
Pedro was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delphina and
June; and brother, Paul.
Funeral services will be held Dec. 27, at the Lux and Schnepp Funeral
Home in Crystal with the Rev. Larry Austin officiating. Interment followed
in Crystal Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity
of the donor's choice.

“Red” P. Devereaux
Mahlon
“Red” P. Devereaux, died December 21, 2002 at the age of 84.
Born in Riley Township on November 28, 1918, he was the son of Lynne I.
and Bessie (Monroe) Devereaux. He was a W.W.II veteran and enjoyed woodworking
as well as fishing. Red retired in 1977, after working 37 years for Motor
Wheel as a Supervisor. Mahlon married Edith (Thomas) Devereaux, January
31, 1980.
He is survived by his wife Edith Devereaux
of St. Johns, three sons, Lonny (Kay) Devereaux, Lance (Laura) Devereaux,
Dave (Bonnie) Devereaux all of St. Johns, three stepsons, Tom (Karla)
Bishop of Perrinton, Michael (Geri) Bishop of St. Johns, Doug (Deb) Bishop
of St. Johns, two stepdaughters, Cheryl (Robert) Prichard of St. Johns,
Lorraine (Millard) Douglas of Florida, one brother, Robert (Helen) Devereaux
of Dewitt, 13 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 9 Step Grandchildren
and 2 Step Great Grandchildren. In addition to his parents, his son, Larry
Devereaux, 2 brothers, 1 sister and his first wife Joan Devereaux, preceded
Red in death.
Funeral will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday,
December 26, 2002 at Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery
with Reverend Steven Lang officiating. The family will receive friends
Monday 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. and Tuesday 2-4 P.M. at the funeral home. Memorials
may be made to Hospice for Clinton County.

O. Lucas
Donald
O. Lucas died December 19, 2002 at the age of 92. Born in Riverdale, Michigan
May 21, 1910 the son of Henry and Mabel (Welch) Lucas. He formerly owned/operated
Fowler Hotel and was a Fowler Public School bus driver for 30 years.
Donald married Lulu Robinson March 23, 1928 and she preceded him in death
February 11, 1984.
He is survived by two sons,
Richard (Ruth) Lucas of Lansing & Gary (Mary Jane) Lucas of Westphalia,
two daughters, Connie (Ralph) Watts of Fowler & Janet L. (Roy) Stambaugh
of Kentwood, daughter-in-law, Ruth Lucas of Lansing, son-in-law, Bill
Braun of Fowler, 25 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and two great
great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Donald was preceded in
death by one son, Gordon Lucas, one daughter, Glenda Braun, three grandchildren,
Kevin Lucas, Kim Lucas and Cindy Lucas and one brother, Audley Lucas.
Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, December 21, 2002
St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fowler, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery
with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends
2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral
Homes. Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Foundation.
Ervin
H. Marten
Ervin
H. Marten died at his home December 18, 2002 at the age of 78. He was
born March 23, 1924 the son of Henry and Augusta (Rossow) Marten. Ervin
was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, was a farmer and was a member
of several farming and dairy associations. He married Verna H. Luecht
October 4, 1944 and she preceded him in death June 17, 1992.
Ervin is survived by two daughters,
Nancy (David) Jakovac of Olive Township and Connie (Larry) Button of St.
Johns, three grandchildren, Becky (Randy) Carl of Alma, Melissa (Marc)
Arthur of DeWitt and Tod Richards of St. Johns, three great grandchildren,
Amanda and Nolan Arthur and Dylan Carl, two sisters-in-law, Florence Hopp
and Edna Flegler, both of St. Johns, several nieces and nephews, and special
friend, Lillian Law of St. Johns. In addition to his wife and parents,
Ervin was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Hopp and Regina Sehlke.
Funeral Services will be
1:30 P.M. Saturday, December 21, 2002 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, burial
at St. Peter Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. The
family will receive friends 6-8 Thursday and 2-4 & 6-8 Friday at the
Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice for Clinton
County or St. Peter Lutheran Church.
