Andrews-Clarence3.jpg (5560 bytes)Clarence J. Andrews, 70, passed away January 6, 2003. He was born May 20, 1932, the son of John and Olivia (Wacker) Andrews. Clarence retired from General Motors, Fisher Body plant. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. 

Surviving are three brothers, Lawrence (Norma) Andrews, Paul (Noreen) Andrews, Richard (Doris) Andrews and many nieces and nephews. 

The Funeral Mass is 10:30 A.M. Friday, January 10, 2003 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, celebrated by Fr. Innocent Kujur with interment at Mount Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or in the form of Masses.

Robert Charles Kent

kent.jpg (5735 bytes)Robert Charles Kent age 81 of Ashley, Michigan passed away Friday, January 3, 2003 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns, Michigan. Robert was born in Wynn, Michigan on July 10, 1921 the son of Clyde & Inez (Curtiss) Kent. On March 18, 1939 he married Virginia Robinson in LaGrange, Indiana. He was the former owner & operator of Kent Implements of Ashley with his brother Max. Robert was a member of the Ashley Lion’s Club and he enjoyed going fishing. He resided in Ashley, Michigan for the past 64 years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Kent of Ashley, 1 daughter, Sally Jean Kent of New Mexico, 2 sisters, Imogene Beracy of Ashley, and Pat McDonald of Ithaca. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 daughter, Jane Ann & his brother Max Kent.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2003 2:30 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca, Michigan. Rev. Jana Jirak will officiate with burial at North Star Cemetery in North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be held Sunday from 6-8 P.M. and Sunday from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Memorials may be made to the Ashley Lion’s Club. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.

Martin I. Richmond

Richmond-Martin.jpg (5281 bytes)Martin I. Richmond died January 5, 2003 at the age of 72. He was born in Clinton County on May 21, 1930, the son of Orville and Edna (Rice) Richmond. He was a former janitor for DeWitt High School, G & L Sales tractor mechanic, Penix Tractor Sales employee, lawn mower mechanic and attended Hope Bible Baptist Church. Martin married Alice Hainer on July 27, 1952. 

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Alice Richmond, daughter, Brenda (William) Wilson, son, Marty Richmond, all of St. Johns, five grandsons, Willie, Brian, Nick and Chris Wilson and Nate Richmond, two granddaughters, Michelle and Tara Richmond, great granddaughter, Shannon Wilson, sister, Anna Richmond of St. Johns and nephew, Robert Tubbs of Grand Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Suzanne Richmond, four brothers, Smokey, Francis, Bill and Myrl Richmond and one sister, Dorothy Whitehead.  Funeral services will be  2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 8, 2003 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Rev. Steven Lang officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Monday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hope Bible Baptist Church, 508 S. Maple, Maple Rapids, MI 48853. 

Carlos Martinez

martinez.jpg (5189 bytes)Carlos Martinez, Alma Age 42, died Saturday, January 4, 2003 as the result of an auto accident. His funeral services will be held Thursday, January 9th at 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alma with Fr. Charles Hammond officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Lux-Moody-Wolfel Funeral Home, Alma on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-4 p.m. Visitation will continue Wednesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a prayer service conducted Wed. evening at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Carlos Martinez Education Fund for the benefit of his children. Carlos was born January 29, 1960 in St. Johns the son of Ignacio and Olga (Maciel) Martinez. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1978 and from Central Michigan Univ. in 1990. He then taught at Carson City High School for 8 years and was the wrestling and middle school football coach there as well as the girls varsity softball coach. He taught for one year at St. Louis Middle School and was varsity football coach there. He was an assistant coach for the varsity girls softball team at Eastern High School in Lansing in 1998. The past three years he has been teaching the industrial arts program at St. Johns High School and was coaching the varsity wrestling and freshman football. Carlos also was a licensed self employed contractor. He was an avid outdoorsman and liked to golf. He was also an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church serving as a lector.

He is survived by his wife Gianna whom he married October 18, 1986; three daughters, Marcel, Alexis and Shania all at home; his parents Ignacio and Olga Martinez of St. Johns; his mother-in-law, Myrna Shattuck of St. Louis; nine brothers and sisters, Joe (Karen) Martinez of St. Johns, Juanita (Ramiro) Ferreira of Lansing, Ricardo (Brenda) Martinez of St. Johns, Rosa (Daniel) Fedewa of DeWitt, Gilbert (Brenda) Martinez of St. Johns, Sally (Frank) Sanchez of Lansing, Elvira (Jeff) Jones of St. Johns, Reuben (Pam) Martinez of St. Johns and Marty (Pam) Martinez of St. Johns; 29 nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.

 

Pauline S. Armbrustmacher

Pauline ArmbrustmacherPauline S. Armbrustmacher died January 4, 2003 at the age of 95. She was born December 18, 1907 in Lebanon Twp., the daughter of Joseph P. and Theresa (Rademacher) Thelen and lived most of her life in the Fowler area.  She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters, Christian Mothers, Farm Bureau and the Senior Citizens Band for 7 years.  Her marriage of almost 62 years to Clemens Armbrustmacher on April 29, 1930 ended with his death March 26, 1992.


Surviving are three sons, Joseph (Marilyn) of DeWitt, James (Gladys) and Paul (Linda) of Fowler, two daughters Jean (William) Hufnagel and Diane (Dale) LaDuke of Fowler, 21 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, three brothers, Sylvester (Esther) Thelen, Norman Thelen and Walter (Laurina) Thelen, all of Westphalia, sisters-in-law, Agnes Thelen, Joan Thelen, Irene Thelen, Rita Thelen, all of Westphalia and Magdalene Armbrustmacher of Fowler.  In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Elmer and Mary Ann, granddaughter, Beth Ann Hufnagel, great grandson, Matthew Berry, three sisters, Rose Martin, Louise Schafer and Mary Thelen, and three brothers, Hank, Raymond and John Thelen.


Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating.  The family will receive friends 2-4 & 7-9 Sunday and Monday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler with rosaries prayed at 3 & 8 both days.  Memorials may be made to Most Holy Trinity Education Trust Fund, Meals-on-Wheels in St. Johns or Hospice for Clinton County.

George “Scott” Dreger

George “Scott” Dreger died January 2, 2002 at the age of 50. He was born in Greenville, MI on May 5, 1952, the son of George and Betty Ann (Hill) Dreger. He was a Lube Tech for Crippen Auto Mall. 

There will be no services or visitation. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home.

Irene E. Miske

Irene MiskeIrene E. Miske died January 3, 2003 at the age of 89. She was born in Fairchild, Wisconsin on October 4, 1913, the daughter of August and Pauline (Schuman) Stelter. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Irene married Benjamin Miske in Fairchild, Wisconsin on May 20, 1932 and he preceded her in death on March 3, 1992. 

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley (Allen) Bebow of St. Johns and Diane (Pat) Hogan of Lansing, three grandchildren, Vickie (David) Loomis, Deborah (Roger) Badgett, all of St. Johns, and Scott (Debbie) Bebow of Ovid, adopted grandson, Dwight Steffen, seven great grandchildren, Nicole (Michael) Stambersky, Tonya Gardner, Richard Gardner, Amanda Badgett, Michael Badgett, Brooke Bebow and Taylor Bebow, two great great grandchildren, Hillary and Trevor Doyle, one sister, Rose Solem of Wisconsin and one brother, Ervin Stelter of Grand Ledge. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Shawn and two brothers. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, January 6, 2003 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fowler, with Pastor Paul Clark and Pastor George Brinley officiating. The family will receive friends 2-5 and 7-9 P.M. Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Alan L. Couling

Alan L. Couling, DeWitt Age 72, died January 2, 2003. Born April 6, 1930 in Greenville, Michigan. Mr. Couling retired from Sears and was a former Boy Scout Leader. He played the tuba in the DeWitt Community Band and loved gardening, hunting, fishing, poetry and story telling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna on December 18, 1994, brother Rodney and parents, George and Helen Couling.

Surviving are his devoted companion, Dot Witt; 3 sons, David (Pat) of Mobile, AL, Jim (Mary) of Kincheloe and Tom (Pam) of Mason; 9 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 1 brother, Phillip (Terry) of Charleston, SC; 1 sister, Sue (Garth) Stitt of College Park, MD.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 6, 10:00 AM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt with Mr. Ron Otto of South Lansing Christian Church, officiating. Interment will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, MI. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Saturday from 6-8 PM and Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 PM.

Carl J. Koenigsknecht 

 

Carl KoenigsknechtCarl J. Koenigsknecht passed away January 1, 2003, at the age of 65. He was born December 11, 1937 the son of Joseph and Katherine (Zimmerman) Koenigsknecht. Carl was an engineer with General Motors for whom he was employed with for 41 years and retired as Director of Facilities Engineering in 1997. He was also a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, past president of the Fowler Jaycees, past Fowler Village President, member of the Capital Area United Way Board, supporter of the Fowler Athletic Boosters, General Motors Supervisor’s Council Advisor and Board Member of the Clinton County Family Resource Center. In recognition for his civic/community contributions  Carl received the Walter Campbell Award for Outstanding Volunteerism,as well as Distinguished Alumni Award from his alma mater- General Motors Institute. He was an avid golfer with three career holes in one. Additional hobbies included fly fishing, hunting and most of all, enjoying his grandchildren. Carl married his high school sweetheart, and loving wife Judy Goerge on June 11, 1960, and she survives him. 

Also surviving are two daughters Jill (Dan) Dillon,  Joni Koenigsknecht, four sons, Doug (Melissa) Koenigsknecht, Dave (Teresa) Koenigsknecht, Dean (Cindy) Koenigsknecht, and Jack Koenigsknecht; nine grandchildren, Megan Koenigsknecht, Carly Dillon, Audrey Koenigsknecht, Grant Koenigsknecht, Brett Dillon, Amber Koenigsknecht, Drew Koenigsknecht, Noah Koenigsknecht, and Tessa Koenigsknecht, five brothers; Roy (Marilie) Koenigsknecht, Bob Koenigsknecht, Luke (Rosemary) Koenigsknecht, Joe (Polly) Koenigsknecht, and Don (Colleen) Koenigsknecht, three sisters; Kay (Frank) Hufnagel, Mary Ann (Roger) Kaminskis, Jane Fox, mother-in-law; Josepha Goerge, and eighteen brothers and sisters-in- law. 

Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, January 4, 2003 at 10:30 A.M. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy E. MacDonald officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday and Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler, with rosaries being prayed at 3 P.M. and 8 P.M. Thursday and 3 P.M. Friday and a vigil service at 8 P.M. Friday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or the Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund in his memory.

Gilbert E. Hengesbach

Gilbert E. Hengesbach, Westphalia, MI Age 88, passed away January 1, 2003. He was born on March 12, 1914, in Westphalia, the son of Matthew J. and Anna (Fedewa) Hengesbach. Mr. Hengesbach was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia and a lifelong farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clothilda, and brothers, Alvin and Jerome. Surviving are daughters, Doris (Joseph) Pung of Portland, Marilyn (Julius) Theis of Fowler, Kathleen (James) Voisinet of Laingsburg and Ann (David) Fedewa of Portland; sons, Jerome (Charlotte) Hengesbach of Pewamo, Richard (Mary) Hengesbach of Portland, Thomas Hengesbach of Lansing, and Larry (Susan) Hengesbach of Pewamo; 40 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; sisters, Rita Thelen of Westphalia, Rosemary Thelen of St. Johns, and Helen Spitzley of Fowler. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor, at 10:30 AM Saturday, January 4, 2003, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rite of Committal in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM both Thursday and Friday. The Rosary will be prayed at 3 and 8 PM both days. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
