Eugene Thomas Snyder Eugene Thomas Snyder age 56 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Saturday, January 11, 2003 as a result of a car accident. Eugene was born on June 5, 1946 in Ovid, Michigan the son of Sidney Vincent & Peggy Irene (Madden) Snyder. On October 13, 1995 he married Mary Jo Markham in Ithaca, Michigan. Eugene worked for Leer Corporation in Elsie, Michigan. He enjoyed repairing and tinkering with motors, but he especially loved the time spent with his grandchildren. He resided most of his life in the Ovid-Elsie area. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Snyder of Elsie, one daughter, Teresa & David Jefferson of Ada, three sons, Norm & Heidy Snyder of Harrison, Nathan Snyder & friend, Theresa Henry of Harrison, and Kevin & Sarah Snyder of Owosso, nine grandchildren, mother & step father, Peggy & Eldon Seaman of Drummond Island, one sister, LaDonna K. Snyder of Elsie and one niece, Lauren & Jeff Hough of Howell. He was predeceased by his father, Sidney. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family
Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Rick Alcaraz will officiate. Burial will take place at
a later date at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Michigan. Visitation will
be held Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Huntingtons Disease
Foundation. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Carl Nobis, St. Johns Born July 28, 1927 died at home January 12, 2003. Carl was born in Fowler, MI the son of Walter and Ottilie (Graff) Nobis. Carl married Phyllis Witte in Arenzville, IL on April 23, 1949 and was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, past member of the Clinton County Country Club, and Sons of the American Legion. He was a University of Michigan supporter and loved U of M football. Carl also enjoyed painting, golf, fishing, bowling, and especially spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul Nobis and Walter Nobis. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Phyllis, sons Jeffrey (Alice) Nobis, Terry (Melanie) Nobis, and Chuck (Constance) Nobis, daughter Debra (John) Mathews, grandchildren Matt (Shannon) Nobis, Benjamin (Stephanie) Nobis, Rachel (Terick) Hinze, Emily (Justin) Mathews, Brooke Nobis, Taylor Nobis, Sarah Mathews, and Carlin Nobis, great grandchildren Jacob and Brooke Hinze. A Memorial Service will be held 12:00 PM Wednesday, January 15, 2003 at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Pastors George Brinley and Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends at Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to St. Johns Lutheran Church or Hospice of Clinton County in memory of Carl. He will be greatly missed. Erica M. "Ricki" Dean died Friday, January 10, 2003 at the age of 57. She was born March 8, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio the daughter of Milton Daniel and Erica R. (Flathmann) Sheatsley. Ricki earned her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from Michigan State University and was a member of the First Congregational Church and the St. Johns Rotary Club. She was a retired Teacher and Administrator from the St. Johns Public Schools. On September 18, 1965, Ricki married Barry F. Dean in Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Barry Dean of St. Johns, her mother, Erica R. Sheatsley of Columbus, Ohio, her daughter, Tracey (Michael) Casillo of Royal Oak, her son, Jeff Dean of Traverse City, and her brother, William (Stevie) Sheatsley of Nevada City, California. Ricki was preceded in death by her father, M.D. Sheatsley. Ricki's wishes were to be cremated. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Matt Olson and Rev. Cayle Beagle officiating. The family will receive friends Monday 3:00-8:00 P.M. at the Osgood Funeral Home. Roberts died Friday, January 10, 2003 at the age 74. Gerald was born in Dewitt, Illinois February 9, 1928 the son of Marva and Margaret (Robb) Roberts. He was a retired plumber from Local #388 and formerly owned/operated Roberts Ceramics in St. Johns. Jerry married Helen Michalek on November 27, 1948 and she preceded him in death December 28, 1982. He married Anita Hebeler February 8, 1986 and she survives him. Also surviving are four sons, Alan (Lisa) Roberts of Elsie, Michael Roberts of Laingsburg, Tracey Roberts of Baldwin, and Nicholas (Vickie)Roberts of Lansing, four step-children, Paul (Debbie) Hebeler of Elsie, Jim (Pam) Hebeler and Bruce (Deb) Hebeler, both of St. Johns and Shari (Albert) Koenigsknecht of Fowler, 12 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 step great grandson, two brothers, Cecil (Vivian) Roberts of Evart and Leo (Pat) Roberts of Illinois, and one sister, Jean Lowery of Lansing. In addition to his first wife, Jerry was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Roberts. Memorial Services will be at the Osgood Funeral Home, Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Fr. George Michalek officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the American Lung Association. Elizabeth M. Robbins, 76, of Texas and formerly of St. Johns, died Dec. 31, 2002 at her home in Texas. She was born Aug. 18, 1926 in Shreveport, LA., the daughter of Frank and Alberta Pavey Gaines. She lived in St. Johns for 42 years and lived the last 12 years in Hondo, Texas. She retired from the State of Michigan and was a homemaker. She married Virgil E. Robbins Feb. 24, 1946 in Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, and a son, Raymond Scott Robbins. She is survived by two daughters, Wendy Robbins of DeWitt and Katherine Adlong of Texas; son, Gerald Robbins of North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Randy (Whitney) Van Deuren of DeWitt, Chris (Christie) VanDeuren of Williamston, Heather Van Deuren of White Lake, Eric and Mark Robbins of Michigan, Kimberly Adlong and Kirk Adlong of Texas, Ken Adlong of Mississippi; many great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Jan. 4 at Quihi Bethlehem Lutheran Church with Pastor Stephen Schur officiating. Burial was at Hondo Cemetery. Shirley A. Shinabery died January 9, 2003 at the age of 77. She was born in Flint on October 16, 1925, the daughter of Ralph and Mabel (Marsh) Lockard. She was a retired Registered Nurse, enjoyed reading and traveling. Shirley married Robert Shinabery, Sr. in Flint on June 21,1947 and he preceded her in death on July 18, 1997. Surviving are one son, Robert (Charlotte) Shinabery, Jr. of Owosso, two daughters, Nancy (Robert) Dean of Stephenson, MI and Cynthia (Keith) Greenwood of Norman, Oklahoma, five grandchildren, Kayleigh Greenwood, Sara (Brian) Warren, Tara Shinabery, Jeremy (Makell) Magley and Lindsey Magley, one great granddaughter, Chloe Warren and two sisters-in-law, Juanita Kadlek and Betty Aldrich, both of Ovid. Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid, with Pastor Audie Clairmont officiating. The family will receive friends 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hospital Nurses Association or Shiawassee County Humane Society. Ada E. Pontious age 90 of Bannister, Michigan passed away Monday, January 6, 2003 at Ashley Healthcare Center in Ashley, Michigan. Ada was born February 7, 1912 in Bannister, Michigan the daughter of Edwin Eugene & Cora Daffie (Leach) Walters. She attended school in Bannister and Elsie, graduating from Elsie High School with the Class of 1929. On November 23, 1931 she married Reuben Pontious in St. Johns, Michigan. They were married for 71 years. Ada was a homemaker who enjoyed playing cards & games. She also loved to pull weeds in the garden. She attended the Bannister United Methodist Church and was a member of the United Methodist Women. Ada resided most of her life in the Bannister area. Survivors include her husband, Reuben Pontious of Bannister, one daughter, Marlene & Charles Swarthout of Bannister, three sons, Gary & Janice Pontious of Roscommon, Bruce & Joyce Pontious of Sonora, California, and Gene & Patience Pontious of Eugene, Oregon, twelve grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents and four brothers. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family

Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 P.M. and Friday
from 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to the
