Maron-Herman.jpg (7872 bytes)Herman John Maron died March 6, 2003 at the age of 80.  He was born October 15, 1922 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Wendlin Emil and Christina (Numerick) Maron.  Mr. Maron owned/operated Maron’s IGA for 25 years with his brother George from 1955-1980 and Riverside Laundromat for 15 years.  He married Clara J. Wiseley August 26, 1945 at St. Johns Church in Owosso.  

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Clara Maron of Harlingen, Texas, one daughter, Jane Reed of Ovid, one son, Robert (Lori) Maron of Okemos, seven grandchildren, David, Steven, Elisabeth, Anna Maron, Stacey Cooper, Melissa Reed and Kelly Maron, 4 great grandchildren and three brothers, Louis (Norma) Maron of Owosso, George (Marian) Maron of Ovid and Arthur (Helen) Maron of Owosso.  He was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas A. Maron in 1994 and John E. Maron in 2000 and his sister, Elsie Davis.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, March 12, 2003 at the United Church of Ovid, burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with Rev. Rob McPherson officiating. Visitation will be at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes in Ovid on Monday from 2-8 and Tuesday 9–8 with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. both days.  Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to United Church of Ovid.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 10, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Merlin Pratt & Rev. Fr. Max Frego will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Saturday from 6-8 P.M. and Sunday from 2-8 P.M.

Mark was born on February 26, 1956 in St. Johns, Michigan, the son of Albert & Daleta (George) Pontack. He graduated from Ovid – Elsie High School with the class of 1974 and he attended Ferris State College in Big Rapids, Michigan for 2 years. He resided in the Ovid – Elsie area all of his life, and he was a NASCAR race fan. Mark was the former owner of T&M Party Store in Ovid, and he worked for Nero Plastic Corporation in Owosso, Michigan.

Mark is survived by his parents, Albert & Daleta Pontack of Owosso, Michigan, 1 brother Jim & Julie Pontack of Ovid, Michigan, Nieces & Nephews Carrie (Jeremi) Sutliff, Colleen (Matt) Nethaway, Chad (Stacey) Pontack, Joseph Pontack & Jamie Pontack. 4 Great nieces & nephews, Keaghan, Karscen, KayLee, Mattison, 1 aunt, Jean & Eldon Baese of Elsie and several cousins. His grandparents predeceased him.

Memorials can be made to Ovid – Middlebury Fire & Ambulance Services. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Anna Bakita

Anna Bakita,  Ashley, MI Died peacefully on March 1, 2003, in North Carolina, where she spent her past several winters. Born on June 27, 1917, to James and Sophie Hejl in Ovid, MI, She graduated class valedictorian from Ovid High School in 1934. Anna married John Bakita of Bannister, MI, on October 6, 1934. He preceded her in death, suddenly on May 6, 1965. They were blessed with eight children. Their daughter, Mary (Allan) Houghton, preceded her in death on February 28, 1986.

Surviving children are: John Bakita and wife, Pat, of Huntersville, NC; Joe Bakita, of Clearwater, FL; Jim Bakita and wife, Karen, of Bannister; Stan Bakita and wife, Betty, of Grand Rapids; Margaret Hendrick and husband, Ken, of Lansing; Philip Bakita, of Ashley; and Dan Bakita and wife, Gayle, of Mattawan. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, who she dearly loved. Her brothers, Jim and Joe; sisters, Mary and Emma and their spouses also preceded her in death, as well as her husband's brothers, sisters and their spouses and a nephew. One sister-in-law, Josephine Bakita Stambersky, of Dearborn survives along with many nephews and nieces through four generations.

Anna was a well organized individual who started working with the Michigan Department of Social Services later in life, retiring in 1980 as a section supervisor. She was an avid reader, often reading a book a day. She loved animals, especially cats. She has been cremated in North Carolina.

A funeral mass is planned on April 5 at 11:00 AM at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a Catholic Mission of your choice, your local Humane Society or the charity of your choice.

Loveoan E. Herbruck

Herbruck-Loveoan2.jpg (5953 bytes)Loveoan E. Herbruck passed away March 6, 2003 at the age of 85. Born May 22, 1917 in Prescott, Wisconsin the daughter of Frank and Muriel (Stewart) Hartman.  She was a retired cook from Clinton Memorial Hospital and a member of the Church of the Nazarene.  Loveoan married Carl E. Herbruck June 4, 1942 and he survives her.  

Also surviving are four sons, Daniel Herbruck of Indiana, Dallas (Teresa) Herbruck of Lansing, Douglas (Jackie) Herbruck of Dewitt, and Darrell (Maureen) Herbruck of Mt. Pleasant, 10 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, one brother, Burt (Anna) Hartman of Minnesota and one brother-in-law, Keith Habkirk of Arizona.  Loveoan was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Floyd Hartman and one sister, Jeanine Habkirk.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, March 9, 2003 at Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Timothy Cockroft officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to St. Johns Church of the Nazarene.
