Ivah L. Stevens

Stevens-Ivah.jpg (26509 bytes)Ivah L. Stevens, beloved mother and grandmother, died May 6, 2003 at the age of 92. She was born in Clinton County on September 21, 1910 the daughter of Asa and Myrtle May (Sturgis) Blunt and lived in St. Johns most of her life. She was a former sales clerk at Borons Floor Covering, a member of First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star Radiant Chapter #79 and a graduate of Rodney B. Wilson High School. Ivah married Virgil Stevens on February 27, 1929 and he preceded her in death on August 26, 1982.  

She is survived by one daughter, Marilyn (Romaine) Allen of Ithaca, two sons, Donald (Joanne) Stevens of East Jordan, MI and Douglas Stevens of St. Johns, eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, one great great grandchild and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, JoAnne Osborne, two grandsons, Steven Allen and Chad Stevens, two sisters, Florence Burk and Ella Dilts and one brother, George Blunt. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 10, 2003 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Union Home Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Lyon officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or the Arthritis Foundation.

Marie F. Hubbell, 87, died Sunday May 4, 2003. Services have been held. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Max John Walasek

walasek.jpg (8246 bytes)Age 88 of Ft. Wayne, Indiana formerly of the Ovid-St. Johns area passed away Thursday, May 1, 2003 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. He attended a trade school to become a machinist and he worked for American Brass Aluminum Company in Detroit. After moving to Ovid he worked for Midland Ross Corporation retiring in 1978 after 25 years of service.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy will officiate with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery in St. Johns. Visitation will be Sunday and Monday from 2-8 P.m. at Smith Family Homes, St. Johns Chapel. There will also be a Rosary prayed Monday evening at 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Max was born on May 22, 1914 in Buffalo, New York, the son of John & Helcia (Lan) Walasek. On October 6, 1934 he married Katherine Mary Eleck in Detroit, Michigan. She died November 12, 1996. He attended Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, and St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, UAW Local 836 and was also an avid runner. He resided in the Ovid area since 1940 moving to Ft. Wayne in 1996 after the death of his wife, to live with his daughter Susan.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Helen Chamberlin of Grand Ledge, MI, Kathy Stahl of Lake Station, IN, Susan Walasek of Ft. Wayne, IN, 2 sons, Max & Carol Walasek of Williamston, MI, and Steve Walasek of Matheson, Ontario, 12 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, his companion dog, Ginger, special nephew, Ray Wawrzynski of Warren, MI, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and 3 brothers.
Memorials may be made to Clinton County Home Health Care. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

June E. Cross

cross.jpg (8904 bytes)June E. Cross, age 70 of Elsie, Michigan passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at her home. She was a homemaker and she raised and sold raspberries & strawberries for many, many years at the Farmer’s Market in Owosso, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 2, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Thomas Pumford will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Wednesday 6-8 P.M. and Thursday 2-8 P.M. with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

June was born on June 1, 1932 in North Star, Michigan, the daughter of William R. & Leila O. (Hull) Wilson Sr. She graduated from Elsie High School with the Class of 1950. On September 2, 1950 she married Robert Cross in Elsie, Michigan. She was a past Worthy Matron of OES #69, and she was also a member of the Owosso Quilting & Sewing Clubs. She resided most of her life in the Elsie area.

She is survived by her children, Nancy J. & Dan Somers of Owosso, Richard B. & Pat Cross of Gladwin, Randy L. & Yvonne Cross of Owosso, and Dennis W. & Linda Cross of Perry, special friends, Katie Latz & E.J. Brichan, and many nieces, nephews, & friends.
Memorials may be made to the Neuropathy Foundation or a Charity of the Donor’s choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Lilas M. Harris

Lilas Mary Harris, 89, of Bradenton, died April 12, 2003, at home.  She was born April 4, 1914 near St. Johns.

Burial was at Mount Rest Cemetery in St. Johns, Mich.
