Wendell E.Waggoner, 80, died Wednesday May 14, 2003. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Mary E. Smith

Mary E. Smith died Tuesday, May 13, 2003 at the age of 87.   She was born August 28, 1915 in Westphalia Township, the daughter of Frank and Mary Eva (Thelen) Lennemann and lived in Fowler most of her life.  She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Christian Women's Association, and Daughters of Isabella.  Mary was a former cook at the Fowler Public Schools and worked as a housekeeper at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church for Fr. Albert Schmitt.  She enjoyed gardening and quilting in her spare time.  She married Clarence Smith June 3, 1941 and he preceded her in death April 3, 1957.  

Mary is survived by 5 daughters, Mary Ann (Edgar) Thelen of Fowler, Teresa (Ronald) Spitzley of Pewamo, Joan (Michael) Weller of Sunfield, Rosanne (James) Lansdell & Germaine (James) Thelen, both of Portland, 2 sons, Richard (Kathy) Smith & Louis Smith, both of Fowler, 36 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, her sister, Anna Huhn of Pewamo, and sister-in-law, Geraldine Lennemann of Lansing.  In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Ann Smith, 2 grandsons, Charles Thelen & Neil R. Thelen, 5 brothers, John, Leo, Herman, Louis, & Francis Lennemann, and 5 sisters, Sr. Francella (Matilda) Lennemann, Martha Fox, Rosaline Schneider, Sr. Regina Lennemann, & Odelia Feldpausch.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 16, 2003 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler, burial at St. Mary's Cemetery, Westphalia with Rev. Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 7-9 Wednesday and Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler with Rosaries being prayed at 3:00 & 8:00. 

Peter G. "Pete" Jubeck

Peter G. "Pete" Jubeck,  Wacousta, MI Pete was called home to his Heavenly Father on May 12, 2003, at the age of 67. Pete was born February 9, 1936, in Isabella, PA, was a 1962 graduate of Ball State College and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He moved to the Lansing area in 1966 and established Sir Pizza of Michigan. Pete later transformed 2 historical Michigan Central Railroad Stations into restaurants. Clara's Lansing Station and Clara's on the River of Battle Creek are now local landmarks that everyone is able to enjoy. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Lansing. Pete was preceded in death by his grandson, Jantzen S. Jubeck, on May 19, 2001.

Surviving are Linda M. (Weybright), his wife of 40 years; daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" A. Jubeck of Wacousta; son, Scott R. (Tamara) Jubeck of DeWitt; granddaughter, Jennalyn M. Jubeck; brothers, Charles A. (Sue) Jubeck of Grand Ledge, Byron E. (Suzanne) Jubeck of Bath and Thomas N. Jubeck of Lansing; sister, Marcella J. (Ronald) Filiaggi of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Service of Death and Resurrection for Pete will be held Saturday, May 17, at 11 AM at Asbury United Methodist Church, 2200 Lake Lansing Rd., Lansing, with the Rev. Deborah M. Johnson, Pastor, officiating. Interment will be held in Wacousta Cemetery, Wacousta. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, on Thursday from 6-8 PM and on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. The family will also receive friends at the Church on Saturday 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to Asbury United Methodist Church, or Hospice of Clinton Memorial and Sparrow, P.O. Box 30480, Lansing, MI 48909-7980, or to the American Cancer Society, 1755 Abbey Rd., East Lansing, MI 48823 in memory of Pete.


Kenneth E. Wyrick

Kenneth E. Wyrick,  St. Johns, MI Died May 12, 2003 at the age of 88. He was born in Ovid Township on December 18, 1914, the son of Ward and Lula (Neller) Wyrick. Kenneth was a farmer, a partner with his brother in the family orchard for many years and the sexton of South Ovid Cemetery. He was a member of Price United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, the Eastern Star, Masonic Lodge and Shriner's. Kenneth married Margaret Ashley in Victor Township on September 27, 1940 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his sons, David (Irene) Wyrick of Byron, MI and Kenneth L. (Sandra) Wyrick of St. Johns, daughters, Shirley (Tom) Willard of Sterling Heights and Gloria (Don) Herrington of St. Johns, ten grandchildren, brother, Madison (Vivian) Wyrick of Lakeland, FL, sister, Althea Placer of DeWitt and sister-in-law, Dorothy Ashley-Hicks of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, May 15, 2003 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Ovid Cemetery with Rev. Kay Pratt officiating. The family will receive friends 7-9 P.M. Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-9 P.M. Wednesday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. Memorials may be made to Price United Methodist Church, the Salvation Army or the charity of the donor's choice.

Clarence Thomas Manning

Clarence Thomas Manning,  Westphalia, MI Age 90, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003. He was born on August 26, 1912, in Westphalia the son of Edward and Amelia (Keusch) Manning. Mr. Manning was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia, a 3rd degree charter member of the Knights of Columbus #2890 St. Jude Thadeus Council and a 4th degree member of the Fr. Godez Assembly for 20 years and had an active role in the building of the K of C Hall in Westphalia. He was a charter member of the Clinton Co. Soil Conservation District. In later years, Mr. Manning enjoyed and was a member of the Mid-Michigan Antique Tractor Pulling Association. He was preceded in death by sisters, Gertrude Schramek and Sr. Mary Manning and brothers, Edward Jr., Robert, Daniel, and Richard Manning.

Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Romilda (Bohr); children, Roger C. (Carolyn) Manning of Portland, Maureen A. (Pat) Quigley of Portland, Russell J. (Shirley) Manning of Eagle, Diane (Larry) Schulte of Eagle and Brenda (Michael) Trierweiler of Westphalia; 20 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-laws, Gertrude Manning of Portland, Rosella Bohr and Joan Bohr both of Lansing, Mary Anne Wieber of Fowler and Adelaide (Bruce) Anderson of Redford.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 14, 2003 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. both Monday and Tuesday. The rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. both days. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Al Miller Trust Fund or to Heartland Healthcare in Ionia. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.

Wayne I. Peck

peck..jpg (7150 bytes)Wayne I. Peck age 93 of Elsie, Michigan passed away Thursday, May 8, 2003 at Ashley Care Center in Ashley, Michigan. He was a retired farmer.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, May 12, 2003 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Mrs. Kathy Leydorf will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Saturday and Sunday from 2-8 P.M with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Wayne was born October 7, 1909 in Gratiot County, Michigan the son of Roy & Isa (Whittaker) Peck. He graduated from Bannister High School with the Class of 1927. On May 21, 1933 he married Helen M. Matthews in Rochester Colony, Michigan. She passed away on November 14, 2002. Wayne was a member of the Bannister United Methodist Church, Farm Bureau, the Elsie Lion’s Club and a former member of the Duplain Township Board. He resided most of his life in Bannister and Elsie.

Survivors include three sons, Dale & Sharon Peck of Bannister, Carl & Rose Peck of Elsie, Roger & Elaine Peck of Raleigh, NC, five grandchildren, four step grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, three sisters, Mildred Whitaker of Elsie, Nellie Clifford Flegal of Ithaca, Ruby Stewart of Bannister and many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, one infant daughter and three brothers.

Memorials may be made to the Bannister United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Robert Victor Gay

Robert Victor Gay, 77, of Mechanicsville, Virg., died Jan. 5, 2003 after a long battle with cancer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathleen Gray Gay; son, Geoffrey Calhoun Gay; step daughters, Joan Gray Bland, Janice Gray Hollins, Kimberly Lynn Gray; grandchildren, Kevin Bradley Gay, Andrea Hollins Colyer, Alicia Hollins Amsler, Catherine Lee Bland; a sister, Anita Gay Ehinger of New York City; and loving nephews, nieces and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Gay Barrera of Alma.

Mr. Gay served in the U.S. Army during W.W.II as a Scout in the 86th Division, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He also served in the Air Force Reserves as an engineering officer and retired as Lieutenant Colonel. He graduated from Michigan State University with a B.S. in civil engineering and received his M.S. from the University of Virginia.

He was a life member of York Lodge No. 410, Grand Rapids, Royal Arch Masons and Richmond Scottish rite. He retired as Chief of Dam Safety for the Commonwealth of Virginia, and served as vice chairman for the Hanover County Electoral Board.

Arrangements were by the Mechanicsville Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home; interment at Signal Hill Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Emmanual Episcopal Church, 1214 Wilmer Ave., Richmond, Virg., 23227.

Robert Lee Sipkovsky

Robert Lee Sipkovsky, 74, of Jingle Bell Lane, Christmas, died April 29, 2003 at Marquette General Hospital. Bob was born in Ashley June 9, 1928. He was raised in St. Johns by his parents, Steve and Mary (Vagei) Sipkovsky.

The majority of his tool and die career as a machinist was at the Midland-Ross Corporation. Bob had briefly worked for Oldsmobile in Lansing and then at the Ovid Memorial Cemetery before retiring.

On April 7, 1949, he married Marlene Krueger. After retirement, he and Marlene moved to the Upper Peninsula and built on home on Strait's Lake. They were married over 43 years when she preceded him in death in March 1993.

Bob was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. In October 1995, he married Shirley Randolph. She preceded him in death April 17, 2003.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Sipkovsky of Harbor Woods, and Peggy Lynn (Chris) Mead of Lansing; granddaughter, Tricia Lyn Wilbur of Lansing; two great-grandchildren, Kristen and Carlos; a sister, Theresa Martis of St. Johns; half-brothers, Don Martis of Grand Rapids, Ed Martis and Paul Martis. both of St. Johns; half-sister, Jeanne Bradley of St. Johns; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was also preceded in death by a daughter, Bobbie Kaye Ruff in May 1994, and brothers Louis, Fritz, and Steve Sipkovsky, Jr.

Arrangements are by Bowerman Funeral Home, Munising. No local services are scheduled at this time.
