Hilary M. Kloeckner

Hilary M. Kloeckner,  Lansing, MI Hilary M. Kloeckner went to his Heavenly Home on July 15, 2003. Born in Westphalia on February 20, 1920. Son of Mathias and Mary (Belen) Kloeckner. As a young boy he worked on farms in the Westphalia area. He went in the services of WWII on March 18, 1942, with the U.S. Army. He served in Europe as a tank driver with the 59th Armored BN. Received his discharge November 24, 1945. After returning home he helped start the Portland V.F.W. Post 4090. He also served as Commander in 1949-1950. He worked in a couple factories, and on June 14, 1951 went to work at M.S.U. in the housing department until his retirement October 1, 1981. He was very active in the Democratic party for over forty years. He did lots of work for Federal, State, and Local candidates, all of whom were special to him. After retirement, he did a lot of volunteer work for seniors, and visited the sick in hospitals and nursing homes. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mildred Jean Kloeckner (Campbell), and his brothers, Harold and Arthur Kloeckner, and 3 sisters, Vera Spitzley, Alma Thelen, and Pauline Williams.

Surviving are a daughter Linda Garrison of Lansing; 3 sons, Steve (Linda) of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Michael (Susan) of Dansville, Michigan and John (Carol) of Broomfield, Colorado; 15 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandson; 2 brothers, Richard and Donald Kloeckner; 6 sisters, Margaret Masseau, Laurine Sebrell, Winifred Thelen, Germaine Walker, Joanne Cook, and Patricia Mace; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation is from 6-8 PM both Thursday and Friday with a 7 PM Thursday Prayer Service and a 7 PM Friday Rosary Service all in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw.

Funeral Liturgy is 11 AM Saturday, July 19, at St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, with Fr. John P. Klein presiding. Viewing will be from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM Saturday at church. Rite of Committal Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, with Military Honors by Portland V.F.W. Post #4090. In lieu of flowers, contributions are to the American Heart Association.

Joaquin Barrientos "George" Rojas

Rojas-George.jpg (8385 bytes)Joaquin Barrientos "George" Rojas died July 14, 2003, at the age of 73. He was born in Crystal City, Texas on August 16, 1929, the son of Macedonio and Jovita (Barrientos) Rojas. George was a former salesman for Story Olds, University Olds and Shaheen Chevrolet of Lansing, Davis Ford of Owosso and retired in 1998 from Bee's Motors in St. Johns. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II. George married Patricia Wiley in Remus, MI on March 8, 1951.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, sons, Steven (Patti) Rojas of Lansing, Joel Rojas of South Lyons, MI and Roderick (Donna) Rojas of Rockford, MI, daughters, Katheryn (Dale) Calder, Cheryl Rojas, both of St. Johns and Caren Rojas of East Lansing, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, brother, Raul (Ellen) Rojas of Tampa, Florida, many nieces, nephews and cousins, and many relatives in Texas, Colorado and New York. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jovita Leal and sister, Argelia Lira.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 AM Thursday, July 17, 2003, St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Innocent Kujur officiating. The family will receive friends 2 4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a rosary prayed 7 P.M. Military graveside services provided by St. Johns Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Michigan Diabetes Association or St. Joseph Catholic Church Education Fund.

Edna Mae Boak

Edna Mae Boak died July 9, 2003 surrounded by her family, after a short courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on May 20, 1926, in Riley Township, the daughter of Earl and Lulu (Marten) Jastram. She was a retired Fowler Public Schools Library Assistant, was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and Ladies Aide, enjoyed cross-stitching and baking. Edna married Charlie Boak on November 1, 1945 and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1991. 

Surviving are her children, Duane (Mary Jane) Boak, Dale (Carmen) Boak, Dwight (Christine) Boak, all of St. Johns, Dennis Boak of Maple City, Diane (Dave) Thurston, David (Judy) Boak and Denise (Jim) Weber, all of Fowler, twenty-eight grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, two brothers, Leonard (Virginia) Jastram of St. Johns and Gerald (Dorothy) Jastram of DeWitt and one sister, Caroline (Carl) Minnis of Dansville. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son, Daniel and sister, Edith. 

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, July 13, 2003 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fowler, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends 3-5 and 7-9 P.M. Friday and Saturday at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns with a prayer service 8:30 P.M. Saturday. Memorials may be made to Lutheran’s for Life or Hospice House of Mid-Michigan. 

Olga J. Witt

Olga J. Witt died July 10, 2003 at the age of 95. She was born in Fowler on May 19, 1908, the daughter of Charles and Louise (Ernst) McPrangle. She was a teacher, a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, Ladies Aide, M.A.R.S.P. and Clinton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and a 4-H leader. Olga married Herbert Witt on June 8, 1932 and he preceded her in death on November 25, 2000. 

Surviving are one son, Dorrell (Caroline) Witt of Grand Ledge, two daughters, Marlene (Eric) Peterson of DeWitt and Mary Whitlock of DeWitt, eleven grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one brother-in-law, Howard Witt of Houghton Lake. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Silm and Louise Sehlke. 

Funeral services will be 4:00 P.M. Saturday, July 12, 2003 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Jeffrey Heimsoth officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Durwood B. Brussel

Durwood B. Brussel,  East Tawas, MI Formerly of St. Johns, MI Passed away Thursday July 10, 2003; aged 68.

Surviving are his wife, Mary; 5 children, Debra (Barry) Stone, Kerry Brussel, Tim (Pauline) Brussel, Laurie Brussel, and Sheryl (Rob) Daneman.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 14, 2003 at 11 AM at the Jacques and Kobs Funeral Home, Tawas City. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Arrangements by the Jacques and Kobs Funeral Home, Tawas City.

Elvin Kenneth Kosht

Elvin Kenneth Kosht, 92, of Midland, died July 7, 2003 at TenderCare in Midland.

Elvin was born Oct. 30, 1910 in Ovid, the third child of Lewis and Mabel (Longcor) Kosht. He grew up on his parents farm with six brothers and sisters. One brother, Donavon Kosht, still lives on the family farm. Preceding him in death are his sister and brothers, Adra (Kosht) Wittenberg, Willis Kosht and John Angus Kosht; and a grandson, Robbie Kosht.

Elvin graduated from Ovid High School where he was a football player. After graduating he attended business college for one year. On July 22, 1933 he married Mary Blalock whom he met when he played Joseph and she played Mary in the Christmas play at church. This July 22 would have been 70 years of marriage.

Elvin worked in Byerly's Grocery store in Ovid when he first married, he also had a milk route in the Ovid farming area. He worked for Consumers Power for a time. In 1940 he began working at Dow Chemical Company as a lineman in the Electrical Department. He retired at age 65 from Dow in 1975. Elvin enjoyed playing softball for many years.

He and his wife Mary were loyal members of Midland First United Methodist Church. Elvin was also a member of I.O.O.F. lodge in Midland progressing through all the chairs in the lodge.

Elvin leaves his wife, Mary (Blalock) Kosht of Colonial Villa, Midland; five children, Virginia (Kosht) Starks of Ponca City, Okla., Juanita Kosht of Ithaca, Maynard Kosht Wolken of Canon City, Colo., Neil Kosht of Greenville; six grandchildren, Laura (Starks) Dannenmaier of Dallas, Texas, Linda (Starks) Lewis of Chandler, Ariz., Craig Starks of Ft. Worth, Texas, Elizabeth McLaughlin of Midland, Mark Kosht of Okinawa, Nathan Dumas of Canon City, Colo.; 12 great-grandchildren, Katherine Dannenmaier, Bill Dannenmaier, Matthew Lewis, Christopher Starks, Bethany Starks, Craig Starks II, Amanda Leser, Renee Leser, Jessica Leser, Robbie Leser, Max McLaughlin and James Dumas; one great-great-grandson, Jason Leser.

Funeral services were held July 9, 2003 from the Wilson Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Steven McCoy officiating. Interment followed in Midland Memorial Gardens.

The family of Elvin would like to thank the staff of Tendercare of Midland and Heartland Hospice for the care that was given to him.
