Robert P. Moon Sr.

Robert P. Moon Sr., 87, of Lake Isabella died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2004, at Central Michigan Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at Weidman United Methodist Church with Pastor Craig Adams officiating. Burial will be in North Star Cemetery at 3:00 p.m..

Friends may call at Lux Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Visitation continues at the church on Friday from 10-11 a.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Weidman United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at Lux Funeral Home.

Robert was born May 4, 1916, in Gratiot County, the son of Albert and Alta (Shaw) Moon. He married Dorothy Krepps June 21, 1935, in Gratiot County.

He was a factory worker for Oldsmobile in Lansing for 28 years, retiring in the mid 1970's. He enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling, deer hunting, auto mechanics, and most of all, his family.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Moon of Lake Isabella; four children, Dean (Mary Lou) Moon of Fremont, Patricia (Jack) Draper of Lake Isabella, Robert P. (Judy) Moon Jr. Of Ithaca, and Gary (Mary) Moon of Florida; 12 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; one brother, Maynard Moon of St. Johns; and one sister-in-law, Ruby Moon of Eaton Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bill and Basil; and two sisters, Leahbelle Braley and Lillian Peters.

Nelson “N.J.” Joseph Blemaster

blemaster.jpg (6061 bytes)Nelson “N.J.” Joseph Blemaster, age 82 of St. Johns, Michigan passed away at Clinton Memorial Hospital on Monday, January 5, 2004 with his granddaughters at his side. He worked for General Motors retiring in 1978.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 7, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Pastor Tom Wilson will officiate with burial at South Bingham Cemetery, in St. Johns. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Nelson was born on June 28, 1921 in Maple Rapids, Michigan, the son of Ralph and Margie (Pease) Blemaster. On July 19, 1947 he married Betty Salters in Maple Rapids. He loved carpentry work and his John Deere lawn mower. He also loved spending time with his family and was a wonderful family man. He was a World War II Veteran and served in the US Army. He resided most of his life in St. Johns, Dewitt, and Maple Rapids, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Blemaster of St. Johns, MI, daughter, Judy Coffin & Peter Donald King of Ionia, MI, 3 grandchildren, Angie DeMars & Bill Andrews of Ionia, MI, Janet DeMars of St. Johns, MI, and Ben Coffin Jr. & his father, Ben Coffin Sr. of Ionia, MI, and 2 great-granddaughters, Angie & Makala Andrews. He was predeceased by his parents, 1 son, James Nelson, and 1 sister, Beverly Baker.

Memorials may be made to the family. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

Angela C. Thelen

Thelen died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the age of 82.  She was born in Fowler, Michigan on April 21, 1921, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Goerge) Weber.  She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Christian Mothers Association.  Angela married Julius A. Thelen April 24, 1941 and he preceded her in death December 12, 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Schneider of Fowler and Jean (Stan) Pohl of Westphalia, three sons, Alan (Teresa) Thelen of Fowler, Bruce (Rosemary) Thelen of St. Johns, and Clare (Janet) Thelen of Fowler, 27 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.   Angela also has one sister, Leona Bauer of St. Johns and one brother, Urban (Marie) Weber of Fowler.  In addition to her husband, Angela was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Louis Schneider, grandson, Douglas Thelen, and four brothers, Norman, Raymond, Harold and Melvin Weber.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, burial at Holy Trinity Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Timothy MacDonald officiating.  Visitation will be 2-9 Sunday and 9-9 Monday at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler with rosaries prayed at 3:00 & 8:00 P.M. both days.

Mary Helen O. Martinez

Martinez-MaryHelen.jpg (8019 bytes)Mary Helen O. Martinez died Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the age of 84. She was born April 9, 1919 in San Antonio, Texas the daughter of Edward and Mary (Luna) Ornelas.  Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ovid.  She married Viviano Martinez January 6, 1940 and preceded her in death April 26, 1962.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Edward, one daughter, Gloria and a brother, Edward Ornelas.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Helen (Rudy) Soliz of Texas and Bernice (John) VanOver of Ovid, three sons, Viviano Larry (Nancy) Martinez of Waterford, G. Jack (Diana) Martinez of Jackson and Mike Martinez of Lansing, 29 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.  Mary also has four sisters, Emma Gordoa of Arizona, Anita Kiter and Josephine Sheldon of Owosso and Rosemary Ornelas of Ovid, three brothers, Eliseo Ornelas of Grand Ledge, Oscar (Dorothy) Ornelas of Elsie, and Alfred Ornelas of Ovid, one sister-in-law, Maxine Ornelas of Harrison, many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at the First Baptist Church, Ovid, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery, St. Johns with Pastor Allan Kozlow officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 Sunday and 2-4 & 6-8 Monday at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid.  Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Ovid.

Arlene G. Grounds

Arlene G. Grounds, homemaker, died January 2, 2004 at the age of 77. 

Surviving are her son, Jan Grounds of Elsie and dauaghter, Patricia (Dennis) McAninch of Cadillac.

There will be no serivces or visitation. Arrangements by the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid.

Jane M. Keast

Jane M. Keast,  Lansing, MI Age 57, passed away on December 31, 2003. Jane was born on July 2, 1946 in St. Johns, MI. Jane was the daughter of Charles R. Phillips and is survived by her mother, Leona (Palmer) Phillips.

Also surviving are her husband, of 25 years, Harry; sons, Andrew and Matthew; brothers, Rodger (Terrie) and Rodney (Anne).

Visitation is from 2-5 p.m. Sunday with Service 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 5, in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Ruth L. Pierce

Ruth L. Pierce,  92, formerly of Lansing, retired Michigan Retail Hardware Association office manager, died Sunday December28, 2003. Time of Remembrance 2-4 p.m. Jan. 25 at Suntree Apartments community room, St. Johns. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Vera A.  Hayes

Vera A.  Hayes, DeWitt, MI Born February 27, 1919, in Lakeview; died December 31, 2003, at the age of 84. Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice, sister, Lucille, and brother, Raymond.

Surviving are her son, Ken (Nancy) Harder and grandchildren, Judy (Gary) Hogle both of DeWitt, Ken Harder III of Lansing, Dee (Jay) Lara and great-grandchildren, Jason and Gabriella Lara all of California; brother, Richard Johnson and sister, Velma Coffee both of Lansing; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 3, at 10 a.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin St., DeWitt, with Pastor Glenn M. Ray, Jr., of Maranatha Baptist Church, Lansing, officiating. Interment will follow in North Eagle Cemetery, Eagle. The family will receive friends at the Chapel on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Heartland Hospice Services, 700 W. Ash St., Mason, MI, 48854, in memory of Mrs. Hayes.

Vernon R. “Jake” Schrader

Schrader-Vernon.jpg (10339 bytes)Vernon R. “Jake” Schrader died December 30, 2003, at the age of 77. He was born in Riley Township on October 9, 1926, the son of Herman and Martha (Krumm) Schrader. He was a self-employed excavating contractor and farmer, a life-long member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, former sexton for St. Peter Cemetery, committeeman for ASCS Office and former Riley Township trustee. Jake married Arlene Ingalls on October 17, 1946 and she survives him. 

Also surviving are his son, Richard (Cindy) Schrader of St. Johns, daughter, Ann Schrader of DeWitt, grandson, Brian Schrader, brother, Gordon (Shirley) Schrader of St. Johns and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle Schrader. 

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, January 2, 2004 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, burial at St. Peter Cemetery with Pastor Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Peter Lutheran Church.

Joyce Ann Rumsey

Joyce Ann Rumsey, loving mother, grandmother and friend, died December 29, 2003, at the age of 63. She was born in Carson City, MI on October 4, 1940, the daughter of Carl and Reva (Groves) Ball. She was a nurse’s aide at the Laurels of Fulton, loved to crochet, enjoyed diet Coke, was easy going and well liked. 

She was married to Nelson Rumsey for 24 years, also surviving are her children, Carla (Kelly) Carter of Crystal, Lisa (Brian) Betz of DeWitt, Ray (Teresa) Rumsey of Lansing and Becky (Bob) Wohlfert of Maple Rapids, ten grandchildren, Garrett Carter, Chris Carter, Gabe Carter, Taylor Carter, Breanna Betz, Jamie Betz, Jordon Betz, Tara Rumsey, Paige Wohlfert and Robby Wohlfert, two brothers, Wayne Ball and Dean (Susie) Ball, all of Portland, and numerous cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gail Ball. 

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, January 3, 2004 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. 

Kathryn K. "Kay" Dugan

Kathryn K. "Kay" Dugan,  Bath, MI Age 60. Our loving wife, mother, and grandmother went to be with Our Lord on December 29, 2003. Born May 2, 1943 in Bath, MI. Kay loved cooking and doing for others, but her greatest joy was being with children and especially her grandchildren. She was a member of Bath Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Shirl and Charlotte Leathers, and her sister, Joan Lett.

Surviving are her husband of 42 years, Dan Dugan; her 3 daughters, Kimberly Kay (Dan) Foreback, Dawn Dugan, and Rabeka (Shawn) Mears; her 4 grandchildren, Eric Dugan, Justin Foreback, Alexus Mears, and Spencer Mears; 2 sisters, Barbara (Don) Gulick, and Mary (Terry) Canfield; 2 brothers, Edwin Leathers and Donald (Liz) Leathers; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw. Services will be 11 AM Friday, January 2 at the Bath Baptist Church, 13523 Webster Rd., with Rev. Richard Cole officiating. Viewing will be from 10-11 AM Friday at Church. Interment Rose Cemetery in Bath, MI. Contributions may be made to Kay Dugan Fund For Children in care of Tiffany Funeral Home.
