Ruth L. Pierce, St. Johns, MI Formerly of Lansing Ruth L. Pierce died Sunday, December 28, 2003 at the age of 92. She was born in Henderson, MI on July 13, 1911 and lived and worked in Lansing most of her life. Ruth worked for Michigan Bell and WJIM (WLNS) and retired from the Michigan Retail Hardware Association. Ruth moved to Suntree Apartments in St. Johns to be closer to her family. Besides her love and devotion to family, Ruth was an avid MSU sports fan, along with following all Michigan professional sports. In 1997, she was preceded in death by her only daughter, Coyla Jean (Amos) Pfauth. She is survived by her grandchildren, Vicki and Ron Waggoner, Michelle Baker, and Scott and Fran Amos; 9 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; sister, Ferne Cook; son-in-law, Robert Pfauth and his children and their families. A Time of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, January 25, 2004 from 2-4 p.m. at Suntree Apartments Community Room, 1100 Sunview Drive, St. Johns. Guigue, Eagle Twp., MI Age 18, passed away Sunday, January 18, 2004. Born March 11, 1985 in Lansing, the son of Jeffrey and Diane (Hanes) Guigue. Tim was a graduate of Portland High School, Class of 2003 and was attending LCC. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tim is survived by his parents; brother, Brian; grandparents, Edgar and Hazel Guigue, Richard and Ruth Hanes; great-grandmother, Grace Hanes; great-grandfather, Leonard Hall; aunts, Janet Guigue, Susan (Gary) Thelen, Beth (Mark) Wahl and Betty (Robert) Platt; several cousins also survive. Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, 11 AM at the Palmer, Bush and Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel, with Rev. Dr. William Barber officiating. Interment will follow at Niles Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Bengal, Westphalia, MI Loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2004 at the age of 88. He was born on May 6, 1915 in Westphalia the son of Theodore and Margaret (Rademacher) Bengal. Mr. Bengal was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia, and the St. Joseph Society. He was a third degree member of the Westphalia St. Jude Thaddeus Knights of Columbus Council #2890 and a fourth degree member of the Fr. Godez Assembly #1509 Knights of Columbus. He worked in Material Handling for General Motors, retiring in 1979, was a retired farmer, and lived his entire life in Westphalia. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Ben, Joe and Ed Bengal; 7 sisters, Carrie Bengal, Anna Spitzley, Theresa Spitzley, Sister Bernard and Sister Dorthea of the Sisters of Christian Charity, Till Malloy, and Dorothy Manning. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Leonore; children, Ted (Brenda) Bengal of Westphalia, Tim (Lois) Bengal of Westphalia, Theresa (Jerry) Fedewa of Pewamo, and Tom (Robin) Bengal of Liberty Twp., OH; 12 grandchildren, Dana, Travis, Adam, Doug, Steven, Chelsea, Janay, Nicholas, and Nathan Bengal, Erica, Austin, and Evan Fedewa; 2 sisters, Sister Marina and Sister Agnette, both of the Sisters of Christian Charity of Wilmette, IL; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor, at 10:30 AM, Thursday, January 22, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia, with Rite of Committal following at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday and Wednesday. The Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 PM both days. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 22, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel in Elsie, Michigan. Rev. Diane Gordon will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. There will be an order of Eastern Star Service on Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. Burial will take play at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Helen was born in Bannister, Michigan on August 12, 1909 the daughter of Edward & Agnes (Cook) Moore. She graduated from Bannister High School with the class of 1928. She married Ivan H. Scott on June 7, 1930 in Bowling Green, Ohio. Ivan died on June 8, 1995. She was a homemaker who was a 4-H leader for many years and she enjoyed camping & traveling. Helen was a member of the Bannister United Methodist Church. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star #69 Elsie, the Watermelon Club, Sunshine Club, and Michigan Travel Trailer Club. She resided most of her life in the Bannister area. Survivors include her daughter Evelyn & Harold Kern of Elsie, MI, 3 granddaughters; Karen & Rick Tetsworth of Manistee, MI, Rhonda & Russell Gingrich of St. Johns, MI, and Jane Porubsky of Traverse City, MI and 8 great grandchildren. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home, Houghton Chapel, Ovid. Wilber G. Bockstahler, Pewamo, MI Formerly of Williamston , born June 27, 1908, in Leelanau County, died January 18, 2004. He graduated in 1927 from Leland High School and from Ferris College in 1930 and began teaching in Williamston in the fall of 1930. He was a member of the Air Force Troop Carrier Command from 1942-1945. He obtained the rank of Master Sergeant as secretary to the Inspector General. He returned to the Williamston Schools on February 15, 1945; becoming High School Principal in 1947. He became Superintendent in 1949. Mr. Bockstahler resigned in 1963 as Superintendent, going to the Lansing Schools as an Elementary School Principal. He retired July 1, 1971. Wilbur was a longtime member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church in Lansing. Wilber moved to Pewamo 2 years ago to live with his nephew, Fred and Sandy Hogle and became a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fowler. He was preceded in death by his wife, June in 1977, and longtime friend, Golda McBride in 2002. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, January 20, 10:30 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 329 N. Sorrell, Fowler, MI, with the Rev. Paul Clark, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Summit Cemetery, Williamston. The family is being served by Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel. Pauline A. (nee Rose) Beagle, Eagle, MI Age 77. Lifetime resident of Eagle, passed away January 17, 2004. She was retired from the U.S. Post Office in Eagle where she was a mail carrier, clerk, and postmaster. Pauline was also an active member of the Wacousta Community United Methodist Church where she was able to serve in the Willing Workers Circle and was a past officer and current president of the United Methodist Women (UMW) group. She also served her community through the Neighborhood Society. She is survived by her daughter, Paula (Gary) Clark of Eagle; grandchildren, Scott (Lynda) Clark of Portland and Kim (Jon) Craig of DeWitt; great-grandchildren, Travis, Kayla, Emma and Samantha; sister, Barbara Rose of Eagle. Birth mother of Leroy Beagle of Eagle. Funeral Service Thursday, January 22, 2004, 11 AM at the Wacousta Community United Methodist Church, with The Reverend Lyle Heaton officiating. She was born August 17, 1931 in St. Johns, MI to Warren and Cora Pearl (Sturgis) Smith. Alice had worked many years in the DeWitt Public School System as a cafeteria worker. She was preceded in death by Eugene, her husband of 53 years. Alice was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, Edward; and two brothers, Donald and Robert Smith. She is survived by two daughters, Diann Bennett and Della (Richard) Wirt; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one brother, Richard (Wilma) Smith. Funeral Services will be 12:00 Noon Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass Street, St. Johns, MI with Pastor Rob McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Born July 3, 1922 on the family farm in Ovid Township, son of Ray and Majel (Baker) Miller. Jack farmed all of his life until his retirement. He married Catherine "Katie" Perry on July 1, 1945 and she survives him. Also surviving are two sons, Alan (Maureen) Miller of Ovid, Tom (Shirley) Miller of Ovid, two daughters, Susan Reed of Ovid and Debra Tomasek of Howell, 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, sisters-in-law, Pauline Miller of Pentwater, Norma George of Ovid. Philena Curtis of Fremont, Lois Green of Vestaburg and Lois Perry of Ovid, brother-in-law, Leroy (Marilyn) Walker of Ovid and several nieces and nephews. Wava Margaret Roberts, 89, formerly of St. Johns, passed away peacefully Dec. 30, 2003 in Willimantic, Conn., where she had been living with her daughter since 1994. Wava was born on Feb. 10, 1914 to the late Vida McKee and John Casper Shinabery. She was a long time employee of Clinton Memorial Hospital and a devout member of the Baptist Church. She loved Michigan, the rural life of her younger years, and was devoted to her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (Fred A. Roberts), her sister (Hazel Strouse), and four brothers (Carson, Derrill, Carl and Ralph Shinabery). She leaves behind her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Michael Wilbur of Willimantic, Conn.; three grandchildren, Jonathan Warren of Seattle, Wash., Christine Walker of Jackson Hole, WY., and Catherine Brownlee of DeWitt; three great-grandchildren, Britney Abbott, D.J. Brownlee, and Ken Warren; a special great-nephew, Eric Strouse of Mason; a sister-in-law, and 17 beloved nieces and nephews. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held this summer in St. Johns. Linda K. Volz, 50, of DeWitt, died Jan. 8, 2004. She was born Feb. 4, 1953 in Owosso. Linda enjoyed crafts with woodworking and painting ceramics. Surviving are her husband of 25 years, Richard; daughter, Stacy Volz of DeWitt; son, Kyle Volz (friend, Jen) of DeWitt; one grandson, Kody Volz; father, Donald Babcock of Dimondale; mother, Joyce (Vincent) Babcock; two brothers, Duane Babcock of Potterville and Tim (Marcy) Babcock of Charlotte; one sister, Luann Babcock of Grand Ledge; mother-in-law, Julia Volz of DeWitt; three nieces and two nephews. Funeral services were held Jan. 12 at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Rodney J. Kalajainen Pastor of Redeemer United Methodist Church, officiating. Belbeck, 76, of DeWitt, died Jan. 11, 2004 at Sparrow Hospital. He was born April 25, 1927 in Wisconsin, the son of Frederick and Anna (Bondy) Belbeck. He lived in DeWitt since 1968, coming from Lansing. He was a member of Laingsburg First Baptist Church, DeWitt VFW Post 671, Laingsburg American Legion and DeWitt Moose Lodge. He served his country during World War II in the Navy. He was a truck driver for the Planet Corporation, retiring in 1983 after 20 years of service. Timothy married Wilma Egeler June 11, 1949 in Laingsburg and she survives him. Also surviving are five children, Timothy (Brenda) Belbeck of Arizona, Michael (Wendy) Ladisky of Laingsburg, Robin (Darlene) Belbeck of Germantown, Ohio, Ricky Belbeck of DeWitt, David (Tanya) Belbeck of DeWitt; seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; six brothers, Fred (Myrtle) Belbeck of Lansing, Philip (Dixie) Belbeck of California, Jim (Carmella) Belbeck of California, Gene (Barbara) Belbeck of California, Johnny (Mary) Belbeck of Kansas, Denny (Diana) Belbeck of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Funeral services were held Jan. 15, 2004 at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, Laingsburg, with Pastor Ed Short officiating. Burial was at Chapel Hill, Lansing. |
