Donald M. Alvord

Donald M. Alvord died Sunday, March 7, 2004 at the age of 83.  He was born on January 26, 1921, in Durand, Michigan the son of Hiram Emery and Shirley Belle (Prine) Alvord.  He was a  retired inspector from the former Sealed Power Corporation in St. Johns and former Roscommon County Probate and Family Court transporter.  Donald was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and American Legion having served in the US Army during WWII, as well volunteering with the Roscommon County Search and Rescue.  He married Marie Pauline Eisler on January 23, 1943 and she preceded him in death February 1, 1998 after 55 years of marriage.  

Donald is survived by one son, Gary Alvord of Owosso, one daughter, Monica Stechschulte of Dayton, Ohio, son-in-law, Raymond Pope of St. Johns, five grandchildren, Theresa (Phillip) Benson, David (Heather) Pope, Eric Alvord, Candi Alvord and Cathie (Tom) Webb, 6 great grandchildren, Logan and Blake Benson, Jessica Estes, Ryan Halteman, Jacob and Luke Pope. Donald also has 2 sisters, Helen (Walter) Horn of Houghton Lake and Lydia Gaguna of Saginaw and one brother, Arnold (Merle) Alvord of Grand Rapids.  In addition to his wife, Donald was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Pope, daughter-in-law, Rita Alvord and one brother, E.J. Alvord.

There will be no funeral service or visitation as Donald’s wish  was to be cremated.  A Memorial Military Graveside Service will be held at a later date.   Memorials may be made to the Roscommon County Search and Rescue.  Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Homes, St. Johns.

Edward Onstott

Edward Onstott,  62, Vietnam War veteran, Karber Block employee, died Saturday March 6, 2004. Arrangements by Pederson Funeral Home, Rockford.

Helen E. Bradley

Helen E. Bradley died March 5, 2004, at the age of 78. She was born in Midland on January 2, 1926, the daughter of Ralph and Anna (McKinnan) Ackerman. She was a retired State of Michigan employee. Helen married Jack Bradley in Midland on August 22, 1947 and he survives her. 

Also surviving are her sons, Gary Bradley of Virginia and Douglas Bradley of Laingsburg and one sister, Louise Ackerman. 

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home with Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. Private family burial services will be held at Midland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association. 

Luther Vernon Cleland, Jr. 

cleland.jpg (7679 bytes)Luther Vernon Cleland, Jr. died March 5, 2004, at the age of 81. He was born in Bingham Township on June 26, 1922, the son of Luther and Dorothy (Gibson) Cleland. He was a former gas station operator, most recently worked at the outpatient desk at Clinton Memorial Hospital, was a veteran of World War II serving in the military police and a member of the First Church of God and the American Legion Post #153. Luther married Isabelle Brown in St. Johns on October 17, 1959 and she survives him.  

Also surviving are his children, Sharon (Raymond) Vitek of St. Johns, Terry Cleland of Lansing, Douglas Brzak of Farmington Hills, Jennifer (Ralph) Bailey, Steve (Jane) Cleland and Kevin Cleland, all of St. Johns, twelve grandchildren, Lisa McComb, Sheryl (Corey) Boak, Raeann (Dan) Dunlop, Heather (Scott) Farrel, Brent (Kristen) Cleland, Sara (fiancé Joe Woodruff) Vitek, Kelly Brzak, Karla Brzak, Jeff Bailey, Andrew Cleland, Alisha Cleland and Anthony Cleland, eight great grandchildren and two sisters, Barbara Crowley of Holt and Betty Woodhams of Higgins Lake. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, stepfather, Willis Mygrants, daughter, Deborah Brzak, son, Ron Fitch and sister, Jean Cleland. 

Funeral services will 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 8, 2004 at the First Church of God, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday and Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Military graveside services provided by St. Johns Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to Clinton Memorial Hospital.

Rosalyn Ann (Warnke) Keck

keck.jpg (7262 bytes)Rosalyn Ann (Warnke) Keck of Monroe died Thursday, March 4, 2004 at Mercy Memorial Nursing Center in Monroe at the age of 94. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, March 9, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating.  Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Ionia. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 Sunday and Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass, St. Johns, MI 48879.  A vigil service will be prayed 7:30 P.M. Monday at the funeral home. 

Rosalyn was born on April 16, 1909 in Ionia, Michigan the daughter of August and Anna (Westphal) Warnke and lived most of her life in Monroe.  She graduated from St. Peter and Paul Academy and Ionia County Normal.  She received her B.S. in Education from Eastern Michigan University.  She taught in Ionia County and in Monroe County at Wayside, Cousino, Havekost rural schools and at Lincoln Elementary in Monroe.  She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe, Monroe Thrift Shop Association, Monroe & Frenchtown Senior Citizens, Michigan Education Association, Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel, Monroe Sport Center and Nortel Lanes Bowling Leagues, and a volunteer for Mercy Memorial Hospital and Riverside School. 

She is survived by one sister, Grace Honson of Grand Rapids, several nieces and nephews.  Rosalyn was preceded in death by four brothers, Leo, Clemens, William and John and three sisters, Elizabeth Warnke, Mary Miller Buehler, and Margaret Andres.   Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church or School in Monroe, or to the charity of donor’s choice.
