Mary M. Prochazka

Prochazka-Mary.jpg (7245 bytes)Mary M. Prochazka died March 16, 2004 at the age of 90. Born June 10, 1913 in Bay County, Michigan, the daughter of John and Eva (Rail) Warner. She owned/operated Prochazka Foster Care Home. She formerly worked as a real estate agent for Briggs Reality. Mary attended Duplain Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by the fathers of her children, Joseph Toth and Carl Seibert, her husband, James Prochazka, her sons, Joe Toth, Jr. and David Toth, daughter-in-law, Jean Toth Bensinger, daughter, Sharon Rose, several brothers, one sister, grandson, Timothy Toth, great grandson, Austin Cody and special friend, Carl Padgett.

Mary is survived by one brother, Raymond (Irene) Warner, one son, Larry (Julie) Seibert of Ovid, two daughters, Marlene Auten of St. Johns and Sharon (Carl) Teelander of Elsie, daughter-in-law, June Toth of St. Johns, eighteen grandchildren, forty great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with her nephew, The Rev. Raymond Warner, Jr., officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Michael Andrew Rakowski

Michael Andrew Rakowski,  St. Johns, MI Michael Andrew Rakowski, son of Harriet (Craft) and Casimir A. Rakowski, Sr. (both deceased) died on March 11, 2004 at Lansing Sparrow Hospital. Michael was born on August 4, 1952, aged 51 years, he attended St. Mary Elementary School in Mt. Morris and graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1970. Michael graduated from Michigan State University and Baker School of Business. A collections specialist with various banking institutions, he was employed by Clinton County Federal Credit Union in St. Johns, Michigan.

Michael leaves behind a brother, Casimir Anthony Rakowski, Jr. (Mary) of Grand Ledge, Michigan; sister, Barbara Ann Rakowski of Sanford, Michigan; nephews, Casimir Rakowski, III., Andrew Rakowski; nieces, Elizabeth Rakowski and Anna Rakowski; cousins and friends in Michigan, Ohio, Washington and Oregon. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a future date.

Martha Jane Salisbury

Martha Jane Salisbury died March 14, 2004 at the age of 77. She was born in Evart, Michigan on May 1, 1926, the daughter of Clyde and Mary (Davis) Cooper. Martha married Robert C. Salisbury in Evart, MI on June 5, 1944 and he preceded her in death on September 21, 2001. 

Surviving are her children, Ronald (Faye) Salisbury of Laingsburg, Karen Garcia of Ovid, Sharon (Dearrell) Cobb of Kentucky, Cathy Salisbury (Roland Larkins, Jr.)  of Ovid and Larry (Laurie) Salisbury of Elsie, seventeen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, special friend, Luther Mullen of Ovid and brothers and sisters, Lela Bonnie Wheeler, Pat (Roy) Thompson, Carol (Jim) Batterbee, Jack (Mary) Cooper, Bud (Ethel) Cooper, Bill (Phyllis) Cooper, Ralph (Jean) Cooper, Birt (Arlene) Cooper and Steve Cooper. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, son, Robert Lee Salisbury and grandson, Scott Douglas Seelhoff. 

Funeral services will be  2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Scott Seelhoff officiating. The family will receive friends 2-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. 

Miles H. Becher

Miles H. Becher, died Sunday, March 14, 2004 at the age of 95.He was born on Jan. 20, 1909 in Greenbush Township, the the son of Homer and Kittie (Andrus) Becher and lived in Clinton and Gratiot Counties prior to moving to Montcalm County.  He was a member of Fenwick Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau having been a farmer all of his life.   Miles married Hazel Bancroft February 21, 1932 in St. Johns and she preceded him in death August 31, 1998.  

He is survived by two sons, Max (Kay) Becher of Eagle & Homer (Shirley) Becher of Texas, 12 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.  Miles also has one sister, Dorothy Knight of St.Johns, and one sister-in-law, Florence Becher of St. Johns.  He was preceded in death by a son, Robert Becher in 1988, three sisters, Pauline Crapser, Marjorie Kiesling and Katherine Watson and one brother, R.G. Becher.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 20, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Pastor Lyle Heaton officiating.  The family will receive friends 5-8 Friday, March 19, 2004 at the funeral home.   Memorials may be made to the charity of the donors choice.

Marian A. Schneider

Marian A. Schneider,  Portland, MI Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother died peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at the age of 85. She was born on June 13, 1918, in Westphalia, the daughter of Anthony and Susanna (Lueckenback) Huhn. Marian was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Portland, and also worked at St. Patrick's School for 17 years, retiring in 1978 with her husband, Richard. She married Richard M. Schneider on September 19, 1939, and he preceded her in death on January 26, 1995 after 55 years of marriage. Mrs. Schneider was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Ruth Ann; a great-granddaughter, Katrin Ritzema; 3 brothers, Arnold, Harold and Raymond Huhn; 3 sisters, Minnie Hoppes, Regina Schneider, and Mildred Nurenburg.

Surviving are 3 daughters, Joane (Armon) Platte, Mary Lue (Dick) Brown, both of Portland, and Judy (Clare) Koenigsknecht of Fowler; 7 sons, Dennis (Ann) Schneider, Frank (Rose) Schneider, Pat (Ann Marie) Schneider, Kevin (Teresa) Schneider, all of Portland, Ken (Karen) Schneider, of Wasilla, AK, Ed (Janice) Schneider, of Westphalia, and Jay (Kathy) Schneider, of Marietta, GA; 40 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Charles D. Hall, Pastor, at 11 AM Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 PM Monday at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The Rosary will be prayed at 3 and 8 PM Monday. For those wishing, memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Flohe Foundation, 140 Church St., Portland, in memory of Mrs. Schneider.

Steven A. "Steve" Schafer

"Steve" Schafer died Saturday, March 13, 2004 unexpectedly as a result of an accident at his home at the age of 46.   He was born on November 16, 1957, the son of Norman and Beverly (Pinkney) Schafer and lived in Lyons all of his life.  Steve worked in maintenance at Federal Mogul Manufacturing in St. Johns for 27 years.  He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Catholic Order of Foresters and he was a former Cub Scout leader in Muir Pack #3088 and Little League coach. Steve truly enjoyed outdoor activities with his family including hunting, camping and fishing.  He also liked to cook and was considered a gourmet chef by his family.

Steve is survived by 3 children, Stephanie, Darin and Dylan Schafer of Lyons, his parents, Norman and Beverly Schafer of Lyons, one brother, Bruce Schafer of Ionia, two sisters, Judy (Marty) Boozer of Eugene, Oregon, and Brenda (Brian) Kennedy of Redmond, Washington, 8 nieces/nephews and his Best Hunter - Molly his beagle.  Steve's wishes were to be cremated.

The Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, March 18, 2004, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo with The Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating.  Memorial visitation will be 7-9 PM Tuesday and 9-9 Wednesday with the family present 7-9 Tuesday and 2-4 & 7-9 Wednesday at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler with rosaries prayed at 7:00 P.M. Tuesday and 3:00 PM Wednesday and a Vigil Service prayed 8:00 P.M. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to an Education Fund for Steve's children.

Lewis C. Wiser

Wiser went to be with the Lord and his wife Becky on March 12, 2004 at the age of 79.  He was born in Lansing, MI on August 19, 1924 the son of Clayton and Stella (Madar) Wiser and lived most of his life in the Lansing and St. Johns areas.  Lewis was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, the D.A.V., VFW Post #4133, a veteran of WWII and formerly worked as a Pepsi driver and at Lansing Window Cleaning and Becks Farm Market.  He married Rebecca Smith in Lansing on February 21, 1948 and she preceded him in death on July 2, 1989. 

Surviving are one daughter, Sandra (Donald) Kraemer II of Gaylord, one son Robert (Gail) Wiser of Grawn, MI, three grandsons, Donald III & Michael Kraemer and Stephen Wiser, three great granddaughters, Katie, Taylor & Taryn Kraemer, one sister, Arlene (Bob) Franklin of Lansing, one brother, Gerald Wiser of Lansing, several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents and two brothers, Charles and Joseph Wiser.

The Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 East Cass St., St. Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with The Rev. George Brinley officiating.   The family will receive friends 5:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.    Memorials may be made to St. Johns Lutheran Church or Clinton Memorial Hospital.

Timothy Brent Baker

Timothy Brent Baker,  Paducah, KY Formerly of Elsie, MI Private memorial services for Timothy Brent Baker, age 47 of Paducah were held March 7 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home. He died March 4. Mr. Baker was employed as a chemical engineer and unit manager at Westlake PVC in Calvert City. He was a native of Elsie, MI and a graduate of Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Elsie.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Ann Watts Baker; his parents, William Robert and Barbara Lydle Baker of Elsie; 1 son, Stephen Brentley Wyatt of Paducah; 1 sister, Ruth Ann Baker-Buckler of Poland, OH; 2 brothers, David Baker of Elsie and Peter Baker of New Fairfield, Conn; 2 nieces and 4 nephews.

Adam A. Bailey, Jr.

Adam A. Bailey, Jr., of Harrison, formerly of St. Johns, died March 6, 2004 at the age of 74. He was born in Essex Township, Michigan on December 12, 1929, the son of Adam and Ida (Bradley) Bailey, Sr. He retired from Federal Mogul in 1986 after 38 years of service, was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War, a member of American Legion Post #153, St. Johns, and Moose Lodge #2235, Harrison. Adam loved to work with wood, golfing, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed his retirement by wintering in Florida at Panama City Beach where he was actively involved with darts and shuffleboard. Adam married Shirley Padgett at the First Congregational Church, St. Johns, on May 18, 1952 and she survives him. 

Also surviving are his children, Sandy (Kim) Patterson and Jeff (Brenda) Bailey, seven grandchildren, Bryan, Jamie and Wesley Patterson and Britney, Breanna, Jenna and Janelle Bailey. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Menlo Bailey and two sisters, Donna Hines and Connie Hankins. 

Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
