Henry J. "Bud" Bendt,  Jr.

bendt_henryjr.jpg (7303 bytes)Henry J. "Bud" Bendt, Jr. died March 29, 2004, at the age of 67. He was born in St. Johns on February 25, 1937, the son of Henry and Agnes (Schmitt) Bendt. He was a retired machinist for Federal Mogul, a member of U.A.W. Local #925, a veteran of the Army National Guard and a one-time driver of Ovid Ambulance.

Surviving are his daughter, Karen Loszewski of Lansing, son, Brian (Sarah) Bendt of Ovid, grandchildren, Michael, Michelle and Kari, sister, Dorothy Smock of Owosso, brothers, Don (Ann) Bendt of Elsie and Mike (Judy) Bendt of St. Johns, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, April 2, 2004 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid, with Rev. Rob McPherson officiating. The family will receive friends 5-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Ellie Rose Micka

Ellie Rose Micka,  91, died Monday March 29, 2004. Services 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Ovid. Arrangements by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Walter “Junior” Kaufman

Kaufman.jpg (7587 bytes)Walter “Junior” Kaufman, age 81 of St. Johns, Michigan passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004 at Ovid Healthcare Center, Ovid, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Mr. Kam Washburn & Mr. Dennis Baese will officiate with burial at Duplain Township Cemetery, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.
Junior was born on May 31, 2004 in Victor Township, Michigan, the son of Walter B. & Alice ( Parker ) Kaufman. He graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1939. He married Jessie Armstrong on August 25, 1979 in Dewitt, Michigan. He owned and operated Kaufman Construction & was a franchise dealer for Butler Building and Bins. Junior enjoyed woodworking, carving, and fishing. He was a life member of Elsie Masonic Lodge. He resided most of his life in the Elsie area.

He is survived by his wife Jessie Kaufman of St. Johns, MI, Daughter: Becky Kaufman of Nashville, TN, Son: Herman Kaufman of St. Johns, MI, his children’s Mother: Edith Kaufman of St. Johns, MI, 4 Grandchildren, 9 Great grandchildren, 1 Sister: Nellie & J.D. Washburn of St. Johns, MI, 2 Step sons: Kent & Judy Armstrong of Dewitt, MI, Kirk & Judy Armstrong of Grand Ledge, MI, 8 Step grandchildren, 10 Step great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and Special Daughter: Chris Salters of St. Johns, MI. He is predeceased by his parents, 1 daughter Hazel Ann, and granddaughter Trudy Kaufman Rogers.

Memorials may be made to Rochester Colony School Fund. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Perry Austin Fillmore

fillmore1.jpg (7618 bytes)Perry Austin Fillmore of Elsie died Saturday, March 27, 2004 at the age of 36. He was a Clinton County Sheriff Deputy and died as a result of an auto accident while on duty. He was also the Clinton County D.A.R.E. officer in the public schools.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church in Bannister, Michigan. Rev. Jim James will officiate and burial will take place at Fairfield Township Cemetery in Fairfield Township, Michigan. Visitation will be Sunday 4-8 P.M. and Monday 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Perry was born in Flint, Michigan on July 11, 1967 the son of Perry Hugh & Irma I. ( Kisselbach ) Fillmore. He attended Ovid-Elsie School graduating with the class of 1986. Perry continued his education at Lansing Community Collage and graduated with a degree in Criminal Justice. On June 6, 1992 he married Paula Coleman in Ovid, Michigan. He enjoyed Woodworking, Fishing and was a practical joker.

Helen Rust of Elsie, Michigan, Diana & Mike Koyne of Charlotte, Michigan, and Grace Bucher, mother & father in law, Robert & Pat Coleman of Elsie, Michigan, many nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his grandparents.

Delbert Joseph Bohr

bohr.jpg (5617 bytes)Delbert Joseph Bohr, Lansing, MI Born April 18, 1923, in Westphalia, MI, the son of William and Elenor (Smith) Bohr. He received his elementary and high school education at St. Mary School, Westphalia. After graduating from high school in 1941 he began work in Lansing at American State Bank as an office clerk. During World War II, from 1943 to 1946, he served with the U. S. Army as a surgical clerk in various Station Hospitals in England. Upon returning to civilian life he resumed his career with American State Bank which subsequently became American Bank and Trust, then First of America. He graduated from Banking Schools at the University of Michigan and the University of Wisconsin.

During his forty-one year banking career he advanced to the position of Vice President in charge of commercial loans. In 1982 he retired from the bank and devoted himself to his family, various volunteer work, and hobbies. He was a member of the VFW, Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Society of Westphalia, and was a charter member of the Holy Cross "Garage Gang". He served on the Board of Directors for the St. Vincent Home and the Michigan Assistive Technology Loan Fund.

He married Lucille (Pung) in 1948, and she survives him. Together they shared 56 years of love and devotion to each other and to their children, Kristine (Paul) Bauman and James (Laura) Francis-Bohr of Lansing, Joseph (Peg Bostwick) Bohr of St. Johns, Andrew (LaNae) Bohr of Kalamazoo, and Eric (Mary) Bohr of Oakland, CA; and eight beloved grandchildren, Anastasia and Bryan Bauman, Jamie and Daniel Bohr, Kathryn and Caroline Francis-Bohr, Alex Bohr and Elijah Bohr. He gave us all an example of a life well lived. Also surviving are sister, Gertrude Manning and brother Ronald (Elizabeth) Bohr; sisters-in-law, Rita Bohr, Esther Nickel, Esther Pung, Gladys Stump, Patricia Snyder, Helen Trierweiler; brother-in-law, Martin (Monica) Pung; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Joanne, two sisters, Adeline Platte and Revella Becker and four brothers, Fr. Joseph Bohr, Robert Bohr, Edwin Bohr and Casper Bohr.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, March 30, 2004 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Cathedral with Rev. Fr. Arockiyasamy Santhiyagu as celebrant. A gathering of family and friends is Monday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw where a Vigil will be prayed at 7:30 PM. Visitation will continue Tuesday at the church beginning at 9:00 AM. Those wishing may make donations to Greater Lansing Catholic Education Foundation, Mother Teresa House, or charity of choice.

Anthony Limon, Sr.

Anthony Limon, Sr. died March 25, 2004 at the age of 80. He was born in Denver, Colorado on September 25, 1923, the son of Joseph and Guadalupe (Luna) Limon. He was a retired construction foreman and a member of Union Local #998. Anthony married Mildred Mudget in Lansing on November 25, 1942 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his sons, Robert (Lisa) Limon of Hubbardston and Anthony (Shelly) Limon, Jr. of Ionia, thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, two brothers, Richard (Mary) Limon and Rudy (Mary) Limon, five sisters, Josephine (Frank) Lopez, Modesta Velasquez, Maria Susta, Angie Hernandez and Alejaner (Pete) Villanueva and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Helen Cooper and Mary Louise Limon, brothers, Raul and Juan Limon and sisters, Margaret Franco and Emelia VanDePutte.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 29, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Pastor Bob Prange officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

George E. Smith

Smith-George.jpg (6920 bytes)George E. Smith of Houghton Lake and Mesa, Arizona, formerly of St. Johns passed away Wednesday, March 24, 2004 at his son’s home in St. Johns at the age of 87. He was born on February 19, 1917 in Roanoke, Illinois to John J. and Elizabeth H. (Berry) Smith. He married Wilma Miller on May 23, 1941 and she was his faithful companion until her death November 29, 2002 after 61 years of marriage. Together they had three sons, Don (Janlee), Ron (Phyllis) and George, Jr. (Vicki) and they survive. He joyed in having seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Wilma, he was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Milton, Tim and Willard Smith and one sister, Dorothy "Dot" Shenk.

George’s life was that of a dedicated Christian, husband, father and farmer. He was active church activities at the Bethel Mennonite Church. Following retirement, George and Wilma spent their summers at Houghton Lake and winters in Mesa, AZ. Together they loved to travel, golf, and play games with family and friends. He was a blessing to all whose life he touched.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns. Funeral Services will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, March 29, 2004 at Bethel Mennonite Church. In leau of flowers. The family prefers contributions to Hospice for Clinton County, 805 S. Oakland St., St. Johns, MI 48879

Edward Parley Brown

Edward Parley Brown died March 23, 2004 at the age of 89. He was born in Barton County, Missouri on September 29, 1914, the son of Charley and Claudia (Bingham) Brown. He was a retired night watchman for the railroad union, a graduate of Port Huron High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.

Surviving are his sisters-in-law, (Mary) Janet Brown of St. Johns and Virginia Brown of Fenton, and nephews, Ralph Brown, Jr. of St. Johns and Dennis Brown of Fenton. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles Brown and Ralph Brown.

There will be no services or visitation. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home.
