John C. Phelps

John C. Phelps, 84, of Brant, formerly of Ovid and Elsie, retired truck driver, died Wednesday. Services 11 a.m. Saturday at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

R.V. Padgett

Padgett-RV3.jpg (7301 bytes)R.V. Padgett passed away April 5, 2004 at the age of 83. He was born April 11, 1920 in Bingham Township to Glenn and Neva (Plowman) Padgett. He spent his early years growing up on the family farm. Later he worked at Padgett’s Recreation before going to work for Warner-Swasay (Duplex Division) in Lansing from which he retired in 1976, he is also retired from St. Johns Ford as a parts delivery man. R.V. loved spending time at his cottage, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

R.V. is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years Lois (Perkins) Padgett, daughter, Linda (Frank) Slagell of Ithaca, son, Richard (Linda) Padgett of St. Johns, 5 grandchildren, Randy (Stephanie) Padgett of St. Johns, Sherri (Carlos) Barbaro of Deerfield, IL, Kathy Jo (Kevin) Kindy of Midland, Shannon Padgett (special friend Gregory MacPeek) of Huntersville, NC and Jaime Slagell of Mt. Pleasant, five great grandchildren, Kayleen, Rebekah and Lucas Kindy, Sydney and Bailey Padgett, two sisters, Mary Lou (Taavi) Joonase of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and Shirley Bailey of Harrison, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, Glenn and Neva, sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Albert DeLaere, brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Carlene Padgett, brother-in-law, Adam Bailey, great granddaughter, Kathryn Elizabeth Barbaro.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 8, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at South Bingham Cemetery with Pastor Bob Ditmer officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Ovid Healthcare Center. In lieu of thank you notes the family will make a donation to the Ovid Healthcare Center.

micka.jpg (5907 bytes)Ellie Rose Micka age 91 of Elsie died Monday, March 29, 2004 at Carson City Hospital in Carson City, Michigan

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 2, 2004 at 10:00 A.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Ovid, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Paul Cummings will officiate. Visitation will be held on Thursday April 1, 2004 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Ellie was born in Bannister, Michigan on July 13, 2004 the daughter of Joseph & Helen ( Stastna ) Stehlik. She attended Summers and Meachem Rural Schools. She married Tony Micka on August 31, 1935 in Bannister, Michigan. They shared a double wedding with Frank & Helen Vlcek. Ellie was a homemaker, and worked alongside Tony on their family farm. She especially loved and enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always had a special treat for them. Ellie was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, in Ovid, Michigan. She was also a member of ZCBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister for over 50 years.

Survivors include; her 2 daughters, Blanche & Edward Plesko of Ashley, MI, Joanne & James Ebert of Dewitt, MI, 5 grandchildren, Eddie Plesko Jr., Cathy & Bob Warner, Renae Ebert, Debra & Dan Moore, and Tony Ebert. Her great grandchildren, Jill, Nicole, John, Jenna, Rachel, Hannah, Jamie, & Ryan. Many nieces and nephews and many special friends, especially at the Ashley Care Center. She was predeceased by her husband, granddaughter Jayne Sue Plesko, 3 brothers, Joe, Frank, & Jimmy Stehlek and 5 sisters Anna Velat, Bessie Supol, Mary Herka, Helen Ross, and Mildred Linman.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.
