M. SmithFlorence M. Smith died April 13, 2004 at the age of
75. Born November 4, 1928 in Portland Township, Michigan the daughter of Albert J. and
Mary (Schlicht) Gensterblum. She retired from Chrysler in Lyons. Florence was
a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and enjoyed playing cards and bingo. She
married Joseph J. Smith June 14, 1949 and he preceded her in death August 27, 1980.
Florence is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Marvin) Hayes of St. Johns and Margaret Smith of Grand Ledge, four sons, Donald (Diane) Smith of Westphalia, Peter (Vicki) Smith of Portland, William (Gail) Smith of Florida and Albert Smith of Pewamo, 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, one brother, Herman (Rose Marie) Gensterblum of Portland, one sister, Sr. Mary Albert of Wilmette, Illinois and sister-in-law, Mary Smith of Fowler. Florence was preceded in death by her parents, infant great grandson Thomas Smith, two brothers, Edward and John Gensterblum and one sister, Laurina O'Connell. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Friday, April 16, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. Thursday at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler with Rosaries being prayed 3 P.M. Thursday with a Scripture Service at 8 P.M. Thursday. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Joseph Education Trust Fund. Florence McConnell Kraft of Frisco, Texas, died on March 29, 2004. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Robert Conley Kraft, her loving family including son and daughter-in-law Robert William Kraft and Patricia Kraft of Fox Pointe, Wisconsin, her daughter and son-in-law Mary K. Shanahan and Gary L. Shanahan of Austin, Texas, her son and daughter-in-law John Russell Kraft and Nancy Kraft of Plano, Texas; her eight grandchildren including Kelly Marie Kraft, Robert McConnell Kraft, Sean Patrick Kraft, John Rix Kraft, Michael McConnell Kraft, Megan Mary Kraft. Patrick Russell Shanahan, and William Robert Kraft. She is also survived by her sisters Virginia Cotter and Catherine Higgins, her brothers and sisters-in-law Bill Maxbaurer, Tean McConnell, Dick & Helen McConnell, Bill and Dorothy Millman, and James and Linda Kraft. The family received friends beginning at 6:00pm with a Rosary recited by her
nephew, Father Raymond Cotter at 7:00pm, Thursday, April 1 , 2004 in the Chapel of
Sparkman/Dickey Funeral Home. The Funeral Mass was celebrated at 10:30am Friday, April 2,
2004, at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church with Rev. Raymond Cotter and Rev. Msgr.

Schultz Sr. age 62 of Owosso died Saturday, April 10, 2004 at Chesaning Nursing Center, in Chesaning, Michigan. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Corunna Chapel in Corunna, Michigan. Pastor Kenneth McGee will officiate. Visitation will be Monday April 12, 2004 from 4 8 P.M. Donald was born in Owosso, Michigan on September 21, 1941 the son of Carl & Pearle Irene ( Smith ) Schultz. He grew up in St. Johns Michigan and attended St. Johns Public Schools. He spent most of his adult life in Owosso, Michigan. On January 14, 1961 he married Sharon Carol Habermehl at Grace Bible Church of Owosso. He was a construction worker and was a member of the Shiawassee Dog & Gun Club. Survivors include his wife, Sharon C. Schultz of Owosso, Michigan, his
children, Russell & Laurie Schultz of Durand, Michigan, Jeffery & Cathy Schultz of
Owosso, Michigan, Shawn Mallard of Ludington, Michigan, Donald F. & Laura Schultz Jr.
of Shi-town, Michigan, Shari & Terry Sands of Corunna, Michigan, Scott Schultz &
friend Ashley of Owosso, Michigan, 9 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, 1 sister &
3 brothers. He was predeceased by his parents. Amelia Leta "Aimee" Antes, age 53, was called home to be with her sweet, merciful Jesus on Good Friday, April 9, 2004 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born on June 10, 1950 in Savannah, Georgia to Joseph Peter and Mary O. (New) McCartney. Aimee was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she served the Lord in singing His praises. Her greatest joy in life was to teach others about Jesus and His wonderful love. Her other great joy was finding the love of her life, her loving, devoted husband, Fred, who cared for her with such tenderness and compassion. Their love was a blessing from God that they shared with everyone. Aimee worked for Thermatron, Inc., High Q Manufacturing in Holland, MI and Secretary of State in St. Johns, MI. She was a loving wife, daughter, step-mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed by all. Aimee was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Peter McCartney Sr. and brother, Joseph Peter McCartney, Jr.. Aimee is survived by her husband of twelve years, Fred Antes, her step-children, Bryon (Roxanne) Antes, Randy (Brenda) Antes & Pam Villarreal, grandson, Dylan Antes, mother, Mary O. McCartney, brothers, Daniel (Diane) McCartney & Jerome (Ruth) McCartney, sister, Maria (Robert) Milstead. She is also survived by her mother-in-law, Lena Antes, brothers-in-law, Jack Antes, Dave (Mary) Antes, Rodney (Keineth) Antes, Doug (Cena) Antes & Dennis Antes, sisters-in-law, Janet (Jerry) Bird, Linda (Robert) Byrd & Becky (Walt) Lang, many nieces and nephews, all dearly loved. She was born on June 1, 1905 in Fisher, Illinois the daughter of Carl and Mabel (Watson) Ring and lived most of her life in St. Johns. She formerly attended the First United Methodist Church and Past Worthy Matron of O.E.S. #79. Her marriage of sixty eight years to William D. Bailey on March 10, 1927 ended with his death October 14, 1995. Surviving are one granddaughter, Julia Busfield of Little Rock, Arkansas, a son-in-law Roger Busfield of Georgetown, Texas, three step-grandchildren, Terry Schmit, Roger M. Busfield & Timothy Busfield, all of Sacramento, California. Lucille was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Busfield in 1991. The Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00-7:00 P.M. Tuesday with an Order of Eastern Star Service at 7:00 P.M.. Memorials may be made to Hazel Findlay Manor. Marion "Shorty" Smalec died April 8, 2004 at the age of 79. He was born in Henderson on October 9, 1924 the son of John and Anna (Guzy) Smalec and lived most of his life in the Henderson and Elsie area. He was a dairy farmer and was employed at Oldsmobile for sixteen years. He was a member of the Elsie United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post #502 in Elsie, an Army veteran serving in World War II and a graduate of Owosso High School. Marion married Lila M. Lundie at the Corunna Avenue Methodist Church in Owosso on February 26, 1949 and she survives him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Andrew (Linda) Smalec of Waynesboro, PA, Carl (Kirstin) Smalec of Elsie and Darren Smalec of Ovid, one daughter, Brenda (Duane) Wieber of Fremont, MI, four granddaughters, two grandsons, one brother, Frank (Anne) Smalec of Elsie and three sisters, Nellie Walters of Lakeland, FL, Stella Krzcuik of Palo Alto, CA and Cecelia (Laudie) Bocek, of Lansing. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Joseph Smalec and two sisters, Veronica Praski and Josephine Grey. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 13, 2004 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid, burial at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, with Pastor David Blair officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 P.M. Ella Viola VanNortwick passed away April 8, 2004 in Springville, TN at the age of 79. She was born in East Leroy, MI on March 20, 1925, the daughter of Emery Leslie and Winnie Vaughn Avery. She was a retired custodian for St. Johns High School and attended the Methodist Church. Ella married Don VanNortwick on October 11, 1952 and he preceded her in death on April 20, 1984. Surviving are her daughters, Karen (Melvin) Nolen of Buchanan, TN, Virginia (Ronnie) Cox of Springville, TN, Phyllis (David) Hartman of Seminole, FL, son, Robert K. (Patrice) VanNortwick of St. Johns, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and sister, Gladys Pierce of Port Charlotte, FL. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Pamela Kay VanNortwick, sisters, Dorothy Lossing and June Pierce and brothers, Lyle, Carl and Roy Avery. Local funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 12, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Kay Pratt officiating. The family will receive friends 4-8 P.M. Wood St., Paris, TN 38242. John C. Phelps age 84 of Brant, Michigan formerly of Ovid & Elsie, Michigan passed away Wednesday April 7, 2004 at his home in Brant, Michigan. Funeral services will be held Saturday April 10, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Dr. Jack Clarkson will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday April 8, 2004, 6-8 P.M. and Friday April 9, 2004 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. John was born on January 1, 1920 in St. Johns, Michigan, the son of Claud J. and Martha ( Workman ) Phelps. On April 11, 1940 he married Edith Robinson in Rochester Colony, Michigan. Edith passed away on November 7, 2001. John was a retired truck driver from Conklin-Carmen Trucking in Ovid, Michigan. He attended Trinity Fellowship Church in Ovid, Michigan. He resided most of his life in Ovid & Elsie, Michigan. John also served his country in the U.S. Army during WW II. He is survived by; 1 daughter Sandra Kimmel of Brant, MI, 2 sons, Arthur Phelps of Reno, NV, John & Nina Phelps of Ovid, MI, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 2 sister, Betty Woodworth of Owosso, MI, Pat Smith of St. Johns, MI, 2 brothers R. G. & Grace Phelps of CA, Robert & Bea Phelps of Harrison, MI, and 1 sister-in-law Lucille Phelps of St. Johns, MI. He is predeceased by his parents, 2 son-in-laws, & 2 brothers.
