Ruth Caroline (Marzke) Overholt

Ruth Caroline (Marzke) Overholt,  DeWitt, MI Age 89, died April 19, 2004. Born April 11, 1915 in South Riley Township, Clinton County, Michigan. Mrs. Overholt was a lifelong member of DeWitt Community Church and the Women's Naomi Circle. She was an original member of the DeWitt City Planning Commission, member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was employed by Sparrow Hospital and the State of Michigan. She loved birds, butterflies and geneology. She loved and was loved by people of all ages. She was preceded in death by her parents, E. Theodore and Ethel (Smith) Marzke and husband, Ralph "Bill" Overholt.

Surviving are 1 daughter, Dessalee Johnson of Grand Ledge; 2 sons, John of Lansing and Richard of West Branch; 1 granddaughter, Nadia Johnson of Grand Ledge.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 23, 2:00 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt with the Rev. Drew Hart officiating. Interment will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, Michigan. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to Tri-County Office on Aging, 5303 S. Cedar Street, Lansing, MI 48911-9955 in memory of Mrs. Overholt.

lemke.jpg (5884 bytes)Jean A. Lemke age 80 of Ovid, Michigan died Saturday, April 17, 2004 at her home. She was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, gardening & quilting; her special joys were her grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel in Elsie, Michigan. Pastor David Blair will officiate. Visitation will be Monday April 19, 2004 from 2 – 8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Jean was born in Crookston, Minnesota on November 19, 1923 the daughter of Earl & Alice (Lee) Yerian. She graduated from Crookston High School with the class of 1941. Jean moved to Michigan in 1941. On November 19, 1947 she married William G. Lemke in Crookston, Minnesota, Bill died October 9, 2002.

Survivors include her 4 children, Gordon Lemke of Ithaca, Michigan, Cheryl Lemke & David Shough of Santa Monica, California, Nancy & Tom Hughson of Ovid, Michigan, Randy & Beverly Lemke of Elsie, Michigan, 4 grandchildren, John Lemke, Jody & Craig Thornton, Jaclyn & Chip Simon, Cody Leslie, 2 great great grandchildren, Grant & Jackson Thornton. She was predeceased by her parents, & 2 brothers.

Memorials may be made to Mid-Michigan Hospice Program. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie, Chapel.

David L. "Dave" Vandegriff

David L. "Dave" Vandegriff,  age 53, went home to be with the Lord after his brave battle with cancer, on April 16, 2004. Born in Lansing on November 21, 1950, he was the son of Chester and Luella (Misner) Vandegriff. He was a member of U.A.W. Local #652 and involved with Cornerstone Outreach Ministries in Okemos. He retired from Oldsmobile in 1999.

David was survived by his wife, Sandy (Karrar) Vandegriff of Lansing, one daughter, Alica (Jonathan) Fellows of Mason, one son, Matthew Vandegriff of Lansing, one granddaughter, Victoria Fellows of Mason, one sister, Emojune (Chuck) DeSander of St. Johns, three brothers, Chester (Wilma) Vandegriff, Gary Vandegriff, and Dennis (Sue) Vandegriff all of Grand Ledge, his mother, Luella Vandegriff, St. Johns, and many nieces and nephews. David was preceded in death by his father, Chester Vandegriff.

Funeral will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at Osgood Funeral Home, Saint Johns, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery in Saint Johns with Pastor Ivan Stubbs officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday and Monday from 4-8 PM. Memorials may be made to the Matthew Vandegriff Education Fund.

Lavina “Bonni” Schultz-Rieves

Lavina “Bonni” Schultz-Rieves, died April 14, 2004, surrounded by the loves of her life, her seven children and their families.  She was born in Henderson, Michigan on June 10, 1932, the daughter of Clarence and Ruth Mary (Horton) Mitchell.  Bonni was a retired GM worker and was also known as “Grandma Bonni” to those she transported on the C.R.V. “Blue Bus” around Clinton County.

She is survived by her children, Jeanne (Glenn) Byrd, Frank (LuAnn) Ferden, Robert (Kim) Ferden, Kurt Ferden, Nyles Ferden and Kelly, Delene Dryer and Joe, Erik (Kim) Ferden, her loyal cat, Quest, 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren, one brother, Leonard “Mick” (Bernie) Mitchell, one sister, Tressa Jolly, 6 nieces and nephews and many, many close and dear friends.  Bonni was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, LeAnne and a grandson, Frankie.

Bonni’s wishes were to be cremated.  A Memorial Service will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, April 17, 2004 at Osgood Funeral Home in St. Johns with Pastor Jim Dibbet officiating.  The family will receive friends 6:00-9:00 P.M. Friday and 1:00-3:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to the Higgins Lake Camp, c/o C.R.V., P.O. Box 134, St. Johns, MI 48879.
