Jason Myers

Jason Myers of Ashley was born in St. Johns on July 12, 1980. He departed this life on April 25, 2004.

Memorial Graveside Service Friday April 30, 2004 at Duplain Township Cemetery at 10:00 A.M. There will be no visitation. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes

Howard C. Hoover

hoover.jpg (5489 bytes)Howard C. Hoover age 94 of DeWitt, Michigan died Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Ovid Healthcare Center in Ovid, Michigan.

Funeral services will be held Monday, April 26, 2004 at 3:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel. Pastor Thomas Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Howard was born in Canada on July 29, 1909 the son of Ralph & Catherine ( Whitmore ) Hoover. He resided most of his life in the DeWitt area. On December 19, 1929 he married Edna Bernice Ketrow in Indianapolis Indiana, Edna died March 21, 2002.

Howard was a farmer and he was the Dog Warden for Clinton County until his retirement. Survivors include his daughter, Lynn & J. Lawrence Andrews of St. Johns, Michigan, 1 son Tom & Carolyn Hoover of St. Johns, Michigan, 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren & 6 great great grandchildren.

Memorials can be made to Ovid Healthcare Activities Department. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

Peggy Catherine Cole

Peggy Catherine Cole, 71, died April 19. Services 11 a.m. Tuesday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Frederick "Rick" Staples

Staples-Frederick.jpg (5587 bytes)Frederick "Rick" Staples age 49 died April 20, 2004. He was born June 7, 1954 in St. Johns, the son of William and Stephne (Reeve) Staples. He was a beekeeper and former sexton at Reed Cemetery.

Surviving are is his mother, Stephne Staples of St. Johns, brothers, David Staples of Austin, TX, Gregory Staples of Ovid, Richard (Vickie) Staples of Framingham, MA, Russell Staples of Milledgeville, GA, sister, Madelyn (Quentin) Robinson of Holland, Manitoba, eight nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father.

A Memorial Service will be 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at Grove Bible Church with Rev. Quentin Robinson officiating. Memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Home, St. Johns.

Robert D. Hunter,  Sr.

Hunter-Robert.jpg (4935 bytes)Robert D. Hunter, Sr., died Thursday, April 22, 2004 at the age of 81. He was born on September 20, 1922, the son of George and Clara (Miller) Hunter. He was a Naval Aviator serving in WWII and the Korean Conflict. Robert was a 25 year member of American Legion Post #153, life member of Masonic Lodge F&AM. and a member of the Bay City Chapter of the Elf Khurafeh Shriners. He was retired from Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance after 39 years.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Elaine, son, Robert (Gerilynn) Hunter, Jr. of St. Johns, daughter, Michele L. "Shelley" Hunter of South River, New Jersey, grandchildren, Robert Hunter, III and Meagan Hunter and step-brother, Arthur (Sally) Cassady of Flint.

Robert’s wish was to be cremated. The Memorial Service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 26, 2004 at Osgood Funeral Home with Elder Earl Barks officiating. The family will receive friends 10:00 – 11:00 A.M. on Monday. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Temple Lodge #103 or Ashley Care Center.
