John Skriba, age 89, passed away Monday May 3, 2004 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in St.
Johns, Michigan.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday May 6, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Bannister, Michigan. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be Tuesday 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel. Scripture Service will be Wednesday at 6:30 P.M. Joseph was born on May 30, 1914 in Chicago Illinois. He resided in the Elsie area since 1946. He married Jane E. Matousek in Detroit, Michigan on November 25, 1937. Jane died on October 3, 1991. He was a farmer and worked for Midland Ross & Motor Wheel. He enjoyed golfing and hunting. Joseph attended St. Cyrils Catholic Church in Bannister, MI. He was also a member of the National Slovak Society #727. He is survived by 2 daughters, Jean & John Dvorski of Bear Lake, MI, Pat & Larry Ladiski of Elsie, MI, 2 sons, Robert & Helen Skriba of Elsie, MI, Richard & Billie Skriba of Elsie, MI, 14 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, 4 brothers, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, 1 sister, 3 brothers, 1 granddaughter, and 1 daughter-in-law. Memorial may be made to St. Cyrils Catholic Church. The family is being served by
Smith Family Funeral Homes Elsie Chapel. Donald C. "Bud" Brock died Friday, April 30, 2004 at the age of 77. He was born on August 26, 1926 the son of Cleo and Alberta (VanAmburg) Brock. Bud was a member of V.F.W. Post #3733 serving in the Phillipines in the U.S. Army during WWII and retired from Federal Mogul Manufacturing after 37 years. He was a member of the Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church. Bud married Norma J. Kerkes on October 16, 1948. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Norma Brock of Maple Rapids, four children, Kirk (Ruth) Brock of St. Johns, Sandra (Bobby) Pugh of Maple Rapids, Carol Brock of Portland and Rodney Brock of Eddyville, Kentucky, eight grandchildren, Michele (Eric) Andrews, Scott Feldpausch, Richard Powers, Catherine Feldpausch, Kimberly Brock, Traci Brock, Michael Feldpausch & Beth Kincaid and five great grandchildren. Bud also has one brother, Robert Brock of Ovid, two sisters, Lois (Bob) Hall of Owosso and Barbara (Walter) Knaus of St. Johns, one sister-in-law, Jane Brock of Texas and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Richard Brock. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 3, 2004 at the Maple Rapids Congregational Christian Church, burial at Sowle Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Kissling officiating. Visitation will be 9:00 9:00 Sunday with the family present 2-4 & 7-9 at the Abbott Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids. Memorials may be made to Gratiot Area Hospice, Alma, 300 Warwick Dr. Alma, MI 48801. Herbert M. "Herb" Wieber died Friday, April 30, 2004 at the age of 76. He was born in Westphalia, Michigan February 4, 1928, the son of Anthony and Clara (Halfmann) Wieber. Herb was a member of the V.F.W. Post 4113 having served in the US Navy during WWII and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He married Doris Page on December 1, 1962. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Doris Wieber of St. Johns, one son, Charles (Lisa) Wieber of St. Johns, two brothers, Melvin (Julia) Wieber of Perrinton and Elvin (Linda) Wieber of Grand Ledge, five sisters, Donna Kus, Ann Marie (Tony) Slamka, Edna (Mark) Eaton, Eunice (Dennis) LaBar, all of St. Johns, Kathleen (Fred) Endres of Lake Odessa, two sisters-in-law, Charline Blizzard of St. Johns and Teresa Wieber of Lansing, several nieces and nephews. Herb was preceded in death by one sister, Geraldine Sipka and three brothers, infant, Richard and Lloyd and Tony Wieber. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 & 6-8 Sunday and Monday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a Vigil Service 7:30 P.M. Monday. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association or St. Joseph Catholic School Scholarship Fund. Peggy Catherine Cole died Monday, April 19, 2004 at the age of 71. She was born in Owosso, MI on January 18, 1933 the daughter of Glenn and Catherine (Carr) Race. Peggy was raised in Chesaning, MI and was a graduate of Chesaning High School, Class of 1951. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of St. Johns, the Clinton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary; St. Johns lioness Club and was a former chaperone for the Michigan Lions All-State Band. Peggy was an active volunteer in many organizations and she enjoyed playing bridge. She married Walter P. Cole June 18,1955 and he survives her. Peggy is also survived by her mother, Catherine Race of Chesaning, MI; her four children, Cheryl (Dean) Dyer and Chris Cole of St. James City, FL, Craig Cole and Caryn (Len) Coombs of St. Johns, MI; grandchildren Heather (Joe)Nekola of Arlington Heights, Il, Curtis Shannon of St. James City, FL, Kelly Lindley of Mason, MI, great granddaughter Catherine Nekola, nieces Janice Race and JoAnn Race both of Owosso. She was preceded in death by her father Glenn Race and brother Gene Race. Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 27, 2004 at the Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, 1500 Waterford Parkway, St. Johns, MI with the Rev. Margery A. Schleicher and Rev. Hugh Banninga officiating. The family received friends at the funeral home 7-9 p.m. Sunday and 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation. Age 46, of Bannister, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2004. Ms. Libertin worked for the Wolverine Shoe Factory in Ithaca, Great Lakes Seed in Ovid, and Looking Glass Builders in DeWitt. Funeral services will be held 11 am, Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at the Bannister United Methodist Church, with Pastor Diane Gordon officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery. Visitation at Nelson-House Funeral Home will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Karen was born May 22, 1957 in St. Johns, Michigan the daughter of Frank J. and Antonia (Didur) Libertin. She is a graduate of Ovid-Elsie High School where she was in the National Honor Society. She received her dental assistant certification from Lansing Community College. Karen attended the Bannister United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir. She was involved in the 4-H club and loved her cat "Kitty." She enjoyed reading mysteries, arts and crafts, and was a NASCAR fan. Survivors include 2 sisters, Yvonne (Gary) Long, of Corunna, and Wanda (Richard) Ordway, of Owosso; aunt, Helen (Jim) Dumond; 2 uncles, Jim Libertin, and Frank Zaleska; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bannister United Methodist Church. Age 76, of Bannister, went to be with her Lord and Savior and to be reunited with her husband, Thursday, April 29, 2004. Funeral services will be held 11 am, Tuesday, May 4, 2004 at the Bannister United Methodist Church, with Pastor Diane Gordon officiating. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery. Visitation at Nelson-House Funeral Home will be Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm and Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Antonia was born February 17, 1928 in Carland, Michigan, the daughter of Peter and Rosie Didur. She attended the Bannister United Methodist Church. On May 7, 1951 she married Frank J. Libertin in Angola, Indiana. Mrs. Libertin retired from Universal Electric. She was a 4-H leader in Bannister and delivered meals on wheels. She enjoyed polka dancing with her husband, gardening, baking, canning, cooking, reading, and writing to open forum. When her children came home from school, they often found mom baking pies and making special treats for them. She had a favorite cat named Tipper. Survivors include 2 daughters, Yvonne (Gary) Long, of Corunna, and Wanda (Richard) Ordway, of Owosso; 2 grandchildren, Darcey Stewart and Eric Stewart; sister, Helen (James) Dumond, of Owosso; 2 brothers-in-law, James Libertin, of Bannister; and Frank Zalesak, of Lennon; 4 nieces; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Frank; daughter, Karen Libertin; parents; and nephew, James Dumond Memorial contributions may be made to the Bannister United Methodist Church. Charles J. Hankins died Surviving are his children, Craig Hankins and Jeanette Cheney, both of St. Johns, five grandchildren, Charles John Snyder, Jennifer Lee Snyder, Tory Lynn Snyder, Brian Howard-Cruise Cheney and Amy Irene Cheney, sisters, Carol (Ed) Hrymecki of Ovid-Elsie and Nadine Walker of Florida, and brother, Bill (Teresa) Hankins of Charlotte. There
will be no services or visitation. Memorials may be made to St. Johns Youth
