Remembering Judge Green

Green_Tim.jpg (8319 bytes)Judge Timothy Michael Patrick Green, age 83, of Estes Park, Colorado, formerly of St. Johns Michigan, entered his heavenly home May 11, 2004. He was preceded in death by his daughter Ellen, of St. Johns, and his parents Michael and Charlotte Green of Hubbard, NE, and three brothers, Mark, Gerald, and Bill.

Surviving are his wife, Alma (Weber) Green of 59 years, his son Terry (Mary Lou) Green of Carlsbad, CA, two daughters, Melanie (Randy) Humphrey of Estes Park, CO, and Sharon Chapin of Grand Rapids, Michigan. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, Michael, Erin, and BJ Green; Kerry Humphrey, Dr. Sarah Marshall, Emily Titelbaum; and Kelly, Ryan and Connor Chapin; 5 great grandchildren, and brother Colin. Tim was a veteran of WWII, graduated from the University of Nebraska, and received his law degree from the University of Notre Dame. He was a 1st lieutenant and served on the staff of General Douglas McArthur in the Philippines. He was Probate Judge of Clinton County from 1957 to 1978, and Circuit Court Judge for the Counties of Clinton and Gratiot from 1979-1992. He and his wife traveled extensively in the United States and abroad. He was most at home in Ireland, Nebraska, and Higgins Lake, Michigan.

For those who wish, donations can be made to "Green Haven Children’s Home," c/o Clinton County Court House, St. Johns, MI 48879. A Catholic Mass will be held in Loveland, CO. Friends are invited to the Internment Service at the St. Johns’ Mt. Rest Cemetery, Thursday, June 10, 2004 at 11:00 AM. An Irish, open-house luncheon celebration will follow at Ye Ol’ Roadhouse, 901 State Street, St. Johns.

Fern L. Duguay

Duguay-Fern.jpg (7179 bytes)Fern L. Duguay died May 11, 2004 at the age of 95. Fern was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on February 10, 1909 to Eduard and Rose (Gassault) LeMoignan. She married Leander "Lee" Duguay at St. Peters Catholic Church in Montreal, Quebec and together they owned and operated the Hillside Tavern and Duguay Bar. Besides her parents, Fern was preceded in death by her husband, Lee (March 19, 1981) and two sons, The Honorable Roland Duguay and Walter Duguay.

She is survived by a daughter, Yvette Duguay of Batavia, OH; two daughters-in-law, Carol Duguay of St. Johns and Sharon Duguay of Waterford; seven grandchildren, Thomas Duguay of St. Johns, Paul (Linda) Duguay of Lansing, Anna (Rich) Duguay-Corsa of Harbor Springs, Sally Duguay of Waterford, Barbara (Randy) Duguay-Simmons of Fenton, Lisa (Randy) Roller of White Lake and Jennifer (Timothy) Wallace of Batavia, OH and seven great-grandchildren, Christopher Corsa, Joshua and Jacob Simmons, Andrea and Alyssa Duguay, Carolynn Duguay and John Roller.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Friday, May 14, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden, St. Johns, MI with the Rev. Father Eoin Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Rest cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Osgood Funeral Home from 9:30 A.M.-10:30 A.M. the day of the funeral mass. Virginia P. Kent

kent.jpg (6856 bytes)Virginia P. Kent age 82 of Ashley, Michigan died Monday May 10, 2004 at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, St. Lawrence Campus, Lansing, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel, Ithaca, Michigan. Rev. Jana Jirak will officiate with burial at North Star Cemetery in North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be Wednesday May 12, 2004 from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Funeral Home.

Virginia was born in Winn, Michigan on April 1, 1922 the daughter of Ota & Trudy Robinson. She married Robert C. Kent on March 18, 1939 in Angola, Indiana. Robert passed away January 3, 2003. They made their home in Ashley for 65 years where the family owned and operated The Kent Implement Store.
She is survived by one daughter, Sally Jean Kent of Taos, New Mexico. She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, daughter Jane Ann, 4 brothers Donald, Vernon, Wayne, & Kenneth, & 2 sisters, Madelyn & Carol.

Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, St. Lawrence Campus. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes.

Marjorie (Marecek) Ozanich

Marjorie (Marecek) Ozanich,  Lansing, MI Formerly of Middleton, MI Age 72, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2004 at the Sparrow Health System Hospice House in Lansing.

Her Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 15th at 11 a.m. at St. Martin DePorres Catholic Church in Perrinton with Fr. Jules Spleet officiating. Interment will be in Payne Cemetery. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Sparrow Health System Hospice House. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Dodge Funeral Home of Middleton.

Marjorie was born February 24, 1932 in St. Johns the daughter of Charles and Lula (Ritter) Woodbury. The family wants to send a special thanks to the caregivers at the Hospice House for their loving care of Marge.

She is survived by her husband, Laurence Ozanich of Lansing; 3 sons, Frank Marecek III of Middleton, MI, Jay Marecek of Maple Rapids, MI and Joel Marecek of Nevins Lake, MI; 5 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Gerald (Alma) Woodbury, Alan (Joy) Woodbury both of St. Johns, and Chan (Jan) Woodbury of Gillette, WY; 2 sisters, Marilyn (Hubert) Waite of DeWitt, MI and Linda (Elvin) Wieber of Wacousta, MI; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Woodbury of California and Phyllis Woodbury of St. Johns; brother-in-law, Robert (Gail) Marecek of Lupton, MI; sisters-in-law, Georgia (Tom) Burt of Tawas City, MI, Blanche Miles of West Branch, MI and Madalyn (Ed) Wickes of West Branch, MI. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Vern and Norman Woodbury; and her first husband, Frank Marecek.

Evert “Doc” Lawrence Sigafoose

sigafoose.jpg (5044 bytes)Evert “Doc” Lawrence Sigafoose age 72, died Saturday, May 8, 2004 at Spectrum Health Butterworth, Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Graveside Service will be held at Payne Cemetery in Fulton Township on Wednesday May 12, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. with a Memorial Service to follow at Bannister United Methodist Church in Bannister, Michigan at 12:00 P.M.

Doc was born on May 23, 1931 in Bangel Township the son of Evert Lacy Holcomb & Vacie Ellen Sigafoose. He resided most of his life in Bannister, Michigan. Doc was a Lumberman. He was a member of Bannister United Methodist Church in Bannister, Michigan. He was also a life time member of the Alma VFW and a past member of the Bannister VFW.

He is survived by his son, Gary Lee & Sandy Mae Sigafoose, son Steve Alan Sigafoose, daughter, Shari Lynn Weber, daughter, Shelly Rae Sigafoose, daughter, Sandra Kay & Timothy Anderson, 11 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sister, Leona Van Buskirk, brother, Jack Milligan, sister, Lois Milligan & sister Karen Crechy. He is predeceased by his parents, son Roger J. Sigafoose, brother, Donald Stambaugh, and 1 grandson.

The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Elsie Josephine (Spousta) Dickinson

Dickenson_Elsie.jpg (5464 bytes)Elsie Josephine (Spousta) Dickinson, age 93, died Saturday, May 8, 2004 in East Lansing. Born in Arcada Township, Alma, Michigan on February 2, 1911 to John and Josephine (Zetkova) Spousta. Elsie met Charles Dickinson while in high school, later marrying him on New Year’s Day in 1930. In 1934 they made their permanent home is St. Johns where Elsie continued working along side her father in the family business. After her father’s death, Elsie and her brothers Jim, John, and Joe co-owned Advance Castings and Burton Mixer and Manufacturing Corporation. Elsie enjoyed putting on dinners at the Clinton Country Club and Masonic Temple. She was a member of the First Congregational Church and a life member of the Radiant Chapter # 79, Order of the Eastern Star. She also enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards (she taught many games to her nieces and nephews). When bowling and golf became difficult, she moved on to playing Bingo. She had a way of making any activity more fun for everyone when she was taking part.

She is survived by her younger brother, John, four nephews and five nieces. She was a wonderful Aunt to all of her nieces and nephews who feel very fortunate to have shared so many wonderful years with her. In addition to her husband, Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, an older brother (at a very young age), younger brother Joe, older brother Jim and nephew John.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, May 11, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass Street, St. Johns with the Rev. Cayle Beagle and the Rev. Matt Olson officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday from 2:00 -4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM at the funeral home with a service at 7:30 P.M. conducted by the Radiant Chapter #79, Order of the Eastern Star. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the Masonic Temple, First Congregational Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Pauline H. (Hamer)  Alderman

Pauline H. (Hamer)  Alderman, Bay City, Michigan Mrs. Alderman, age 83 years, passed away May 3, 2004 at her home. She was born in Ovid, Michigan on September 30, 1920 to the late Raymon and Lucile (Gray) Hamer. She graduated from Ovid High School in 1938 and attended Owosso Business College. Pauline was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and member of the Presbyterian Women. She was also a former member of the American Business Women's Association and the Junior Women's Club. She was a life member of Bay Chapter No. 219 O.E.S. Pauline retired in 1985 from the Personnel Dept. of the Bay City Plant of the Dow Chemical Co.

She is survived by 2 daughters, Vicki A. Heinzman of Frankenmuth and Nanci L. (Timothy B.) Draves of Midland; 4 grandchildren: Deborah Brannstrom of Kalamazoo, Amy Brannstrom of Midland, Marc (Sally) Heinzman of Frankenmuth and Marci (Adam) Beck of Lawton; 5 great grandchildren: Matthew, Kevin, Steven and Sarah Heinzman and Madelynn Beck; 2 nephews, Lee (Leigh) Blalock and Tom Alderman and 4 nieces: Pat (Jerry) Rankin, Karen Alderman, Sue (Joe) Stroebel and Kay (Joe) Kelly, as well as numerous close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Alderman, sister-in-law, Margaret Blalock and brother-in-law, Clare Alderman.

Funeral service were Thursday at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Dr. Jeffrey D. Weenink will officiate. The Committal Service were Thursday at 2 p.m. at Maple Grove Cemetery in Ovid. Memorial tributes may be made to First Presbyterian Church or a charity of the donor's choice. Friends may call at Penzien-Steel Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. She will lie in state at the Church on Thursday from 9 a.m. until service time. Theressa Emily Nichols

Theressa Emily Nichols,  DeWitt, MI Born March 23, 1910 in Riley Township, passed away peacefully January 9, 2004 at the age of 93. Theressa retired from the Atlas Drop Forge Division of Dana Corporation after 25 years of service as a company receptionist. Theressa loved to crochet and created many beautiful afghans for family members and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, playing cards, and solving crossword puzzles. She was a kind and gentle person who loved her family and always welcomed company. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Beatrice (Longcor) Nichols, two brothers, Lloyd and Donald Nichols and three sisters, Beatrice O'Dell, Elizabeth Farrier and Onalee Geyer.

Surviving are her sister, Leta Nichols of St. Johns; brother, Mahlon (Lois) Nichols of Weidman, and sister-in-law, Doris Nichols of St. Johns; many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.

Following Theressa's request, cremation has occurred with a Memorial Service to be held Saturday, May 8, 10 AM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt with the Rev. Tad Jameson, Pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, officiating. The family wishes to thank the staff of Home Sweet Home and Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Theressa and request that memorial contributions be direct to either of these caregivers.
