Merwyn Lynn "Mike" Koyne

koyne.jpg (4342 bytes)Merwyn “Mike” Koyne age 69 of Elsie, Michigan died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at his home.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 11:00 at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. James P. James will officiate with burial at Fairfield Township Cemetery, Fairfield Township, Michigan. Visitation will be Wednesday June 16, 2004 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Mike was born in Owosso, Michigan on May 17, 1935 the son of James Clem & Alta Marion ( Deener ) Koyne. He graduated from Corunna High School in Corunna, Michigan and Lansing Community College with an Associates Degree. He retired from Oldsmobile in 1988 after 30 years of service. He loved to fish in Canada & followed sports and the Olympics. He also loved to cook. Mike was a member of the UAW #652 in Lansing, Michigan. He resided most of his life in the Elsie & Corunna area.

He is survived by his daughter Penny Lynn Koyne of South Carolina, 2 sons, Michael & Diana Koyne of Charlotte, MI, and Rodney & Beth Koyne of Washington DC, 6 grandchildren, 1 sister Elaine, 1 brother, Jim and a host of friends. He is predeceased by his parents.

Memorials may be made to O.E. Woodworking Class for scholarships. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

James P. "Jake" Klein

Klein-James.jpg (4879 bytes)James P. "Jake" Klein died unexpectedly Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the age of 50. He was born in St. Johns, Michigan on December 1, 1953, the son of John J. and Mary J. (Koenigsknect) Klein. He was a Resident Unit Manager for Riverside Correctional Facility in Ionia. Jake was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Pewamo. He was very involved with his church through religious education, R.C.I.A. and as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. He loved people and the outdoors. Jake was very caring, had a great sense of humor and seemed to draw people to him. He truly was the "life of any party". Jake liked to travel having taken trips to Europe and South America. He was a Godfather to many and was the "favorite" uncle to his nieces and nephews.

Jake is survived by his parents, John and Mary Klein of Fowler, 7 brothers/sisters, Rose (Neil) Hafner of Fowler, Fr. John Klein of Lansing, William (Ruth) Klein of Pewamo, Monica (Edward) Martin of Fowler, Mary Klein of Okemos, Thomas (Debra) Klein of Pewamo and Lucy (Bruce) Nurenberg of Pewamo, 14 nieces/nephews, 6 great nieces/nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins and special friends.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 17, 2004 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, burial at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler with Rev. Fr. Charlon Mason, Rev. Fr. John Klein, Rev. Fr. Bernard Reilly and Rev. Fr. Timothy E. MacDonald officiating. Visitation will be 2:00-9:00 Tuesday and 9:00-9:00 Wednesday at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Fowler with the family present 2-4 & 7-9 both days with Rosaries prayed at 3:00 & 8:00 Tuesday and 3:00 Wednesday and a Vigil Service 8:00 Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Jake’s favorite charities, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo, Maryknoll Missionaries or Dukette Catholic School.

Evajean Miller

Miller-Evajean.jpg (4880 bytes)Evajean Miller died June 11, 2004 at her residence in Pewamo. She was born April 21, 1928 in Ionia, MI the daughter of Lewis and Sueann (Soule) Selleck. Evajean was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fowler, the Ladies Aide Society and lived most of her life in the Pewamo area. Evajean married Jack E. Miller, Sr. on June 12, 1948 in Angola, Indiana and he preceded her in death on July 28, 1996.

She is survived by one son, Jack E. (Susie) Miller, Jr. of Westphalia; one daughter Brenda (Bill) Wandell of Pewamo; eight grandchildren, Jack (Becky) Miller, III, Jill (Tom) Thelen, Brent (Lisa) Wandell, Kelli (Shawn) Britton, Scott (Jewell) Miller, Aaron (Nicole) Wandell, Katie (Craig) Pohl and Tracie (Tom) Flanigan; eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Miller; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Clayton, Arthur, Joseph, Kenneth and Bill Selleck; six sisters, Dorothy Davis, Bessie Scott, Muriel Mack, Cleobelle "Sally" Kowalski, Bernadine Hitchcock and June Panfill; and two great-grandchildren, Jacklynn and Carly Miller.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 14, 2004 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fowler. Burial will be at East Plains Cemetery with Rev. Paul Clark officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. and Sunday 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. – 9:00p.m. at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes in Fowler. In lieu of thank you cards, the family will make donations to Hospice for Clinton County, St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Pewamo Fire Department.
