Fern M. Davis

Davis_Fern.jpg (6946 bytes)Fern M. Davis age 90 of Ovid, Michigan died Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at Ovid Healthcare Center in Ovid, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday July 2, 2004 at 1:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. Diane Gordon will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery in Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2004 from 2-8 P.M. with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Fern was born on July 14, 1913 in North Star, Michigan the daughter of Royal & Tressie ( Mallory ) Munson. She married Lyle Davis in 1940 in Perry, Michigan. He died on May 4, 1969. Fern was a homemaker. She loved to garden and she loved yard work. She also loved animals. She resided most of her life in Ovid, Michigan.

She is survived by her son Dennis Davis of Ovid, MI, daughter Marcilene & John McCarthy of Milford, MI, daughter Audrey & Jim Miller of Mason, MI, 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, sister Grace Henney of Crystal, MI, sister Hazel Schaeffer of Indiana. She is predeceased by her parents, husband, 2 sons Ronald Sweet & Robert Davis, 5 brothers, 2 sisters, 1 grandson.

The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Harriett E. Louth

louth.jpg (6222 bytes)Harriett E. Louth, age 91, went to be with her Lord Friday, June 25, 2004. Harriett was a farmer’s wife and homemaker most of her life. She was a devoted wife and mother. She worked part-time at Ginthers Foodland, Gambles Store and Marons Market, all in Ovid. She married Walter Louth July 28, 1930 and he preceded her in death June 26, 1991.

Survivors include four daughters and three sons, Eva Lucille (Clifton) Clark of Ovid, Walter Richard (Faye) Louth of Dewitt, Edward (Marty) Louth of Ovid, Patsy (Clayton) Crandell of Owosso, Veatrice Ann (Lyle) Skjerve of California, Rita Elaine (Keith) Domke of Sumner and David (Penny) Louth of Lansing, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, June 28, 2004 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid with Rev. Eric Stanton officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Shiawassee County.

Marian Louise Schafer

schafer.jpg (5915 bytes)Marian Louise Schafer,  Lansing, MI Age 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Thursday, June 24, 2004. Marian was born July 29, 1916, in Westphalia, Michigan, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Goerge) Schafer A resident of the Lansing area most of her adult life, Marian was a life time member at St. Mary Cathedral. She worked at Home Dairy as a bakery manager until its closing and retired from Kwast Bakery as manager in 1987. Marian enjoyed playing cards with family and friends every chance she could get. A loving sister, aunt and friend will be dearly missed by all. She was preceded in death by siblings and in-laws, Harry (Sarah) Schafer, Harold Thelen, Gary Mueller, Betty Schafer and Leon Schafer.

Marian is survived by 2 sisters, Erma Thelen and Kay Mueller; 3 brothers, Jerry Schafer, Art (Mildred) Schafer and Ray (Betty) Schafer; sister-in-law, Burlene Schafer. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be Monday, June 28, 2004, 10:00 AM at St. Mary Cathedral with Rev. Fr. William Lugger as Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, June 26, 2004, from 6-8 PM and Sunday, June 27, 2004, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw, Lansing, Michigan 48917, where a rosary will be prayed Sunday at 7:00 PM. The family would like to thank the staff at Tender Care West for their kindness and compassionate care at a time when it was greatly needed. We are sure she is up in Heaven playing cards which she so enjoyed to do. Memorial contributions can be made to a church of one's choice in memory of Marian.

Robert D. Prochazka

Robert D. Prochazka died June 24, 2004 at the age of 75. He was born on Bengal Township, MIon December 19, 1928, the son of James and Marie (Jiranek) Prochazka. He was a retired crane operator for General Motors and a member of the Moose and Eagle Lodges. Robert married Georgia Clark in Hamburg, MI on March 27, 1982 and she preceded him in death on March 12, 2003.

Surviving are two sons, Larry (Renee) Prochazka and Dale (Char) Prochazka, all of St. Johns, one daughter, Connie Strack of Vestaburg, MI, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren and three sisters, Helen Kapral of Wisconsin, Vivian Hornak of Chesaning and Frances Saddak of Capac. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by an infant son, James Prochazka, sister, Lillian Chaprinka and two brothers, James Prochazka and Frank Prochazka.

Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. Kay Pratt officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

Lidwina M. Biergans

Lidwina M. Biergans,  Lansing, MI Age 92, went to be with The Lord, Wednesday, June 23, 2004. Lidwina was born August 20, 1911, in Fowler, Michigan, the daughter of John and Caroline Rademacher. Mrs. Biergans was a Lansing area resident most of her life and was a member of St. Gerard Catholic Church. Lidwina enjoyed gardening and watching wildlife. A loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend will be missed by all. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman in 1971 and brothers, Joseph, Clement, William & Clarence.

Lidwina is survived by four children, James (Mary) Biergans, Janet (David) Kloeckner, Diane (John) Caudy and Karen (Dennis) Tisher; two sisters, Gertrude Witgen and Mary Louise Thelen. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Celebration of the Funeral Mass will be Saturday, June 26, 2004, 10:00 AM at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. John Fain as Celebrant. Interment will follow in Fowler at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery at 1:30 PM. The family will receive relatives and friends, Friday, June 25, 2004, from 6-8 PM at Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Home, Delta Chapel, where a rosary will be prayed at 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, Lidwina would prefer donations be made to Most Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery Maintenance Fund.

Gordon Wayne Danford

Gordon Wayne Danford, Laingsburg, MI Loving husband and father, to whom family was everything, passed away on Friday, June 18, 2004 at the age of 54. He was born in Lansing on July 28, 1949 the son of Lawrence J. and Marguerite (Whyte) Danford. Gordon was a graduate of the Kendall School of Design and owned and operated Danford Floors & More. Gordon cherished time with his family especially fishing, snowmobiling, motorcycling and spending time at their cottage in Harrisville. Gordon knew the true value of life, as he was the grateful recipient of a kidney transplant 4 years ago. His belief in the power of positive thinking helped him meet the many challenges of life, including his fight against diabetes. Gordon was preceded in death by: his father, Lawrence J. Danford.

Surviving are: his wife of 33 years, Sally L. Danford; children, Maxwell G. and Shelby R. Danford, both of Laingsburg; mother, Marguerite W. Danford, formerly of Dimondale; sisters, Janice R. Danford of East Lansing, Colleen S. Moore of Oklahoma City, OK, and Heather H. Grimwood of Haslett; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, June 26, 2004 at Unity of Greater Lansing, 240 Marshall Street, Lansing, with the Rev. L.R. "Dick" Ammons officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-7 PM on Friday at the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel. Memorial contributions in loving memory of Gordon W.
