Lucille E. Frey

Lucille E. Frey, Lansing, MI Born August 25, 1912 in Westphalia, MI the daughter of George and Hedwig (Nasemann) Wohlfert, died Saturday, October 30, 2004 in Lansing. Lucille was a tireless worker for Church and her family. She was a charter member of Holy Cross Parish; a member of the Waverly 39ers club and bowling league; Holy Cross Euchre Club, Windsor Estates Association and past member of the St. Gerard Bridge Marathon and Elk's Womens Auxillary. She is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years Walter, who died in 2003 and 8 brothers and sisters.

She will be remembered lovingly by her son, Larry (Linda); and daughter Barbara (Bill) Hall; grandchildren, Sheryl (Kevin), Dean, Scott, Denise (Dennis), Jennifer (David) and Andrew (Shannon); great grandchildren, Stefanie, David, Heather, Samuel, Amelia and Allison; a sister, Beatrice Graham; a sister in law, Bernice Wohlfert and many nieces, nephews and longtime friends.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 11:00am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Timothy Byrnes as celebrant. Rite of committal will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8pm at the Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw, where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday 10-11am. Memorials may be made to Holy Cross Church or the Waverly 39er's club.

Duane G. Blatt

Duane G. Blatt,  Muir, MI Age 65, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2004. He was born on April 14, 1939 in Peck, Michigan, the son of John and Leota (Wiess) Blatt. Mr. Blatt began his career teaching in the PW School District, where he coached football and basketball. After that, he operated the State Farm Insurance Agency in Westphalia for 37 years and coached the PW Golf team from 1980-1995, receiving coach of the year honors in the State of Michigan twice.

Duane was an exceptional human being who was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, and the Westphalia Knights of Columbus St. Jude Thaddeus Council #2890. He served on the Westphalia Fire Department for many years and during a portion of that time, served as the fire Chief. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Nina, whom he married on January 16, 1960; 5 children, Laurie (John) Sillman of South Riley, Katherine (Jack) VanBuren of Muir, Daniel (Christine) Blatt of Brighton, Cheryl (Phil) Allen of Muir and Deborah (Ed) Johnson of Kansas City, MO; 10 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; 2 sisters, Belva (Rex) Kennedy of Ashburn, GA and Sharon (John) Williamson of Laingsburg; many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 4, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia, from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday and Wednesday. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 PM Tuesday and 3 PM Wednesday. There will be a Scriptural Wake Service held at 8 PM Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to Sparrow Hospice, in memory of Mr. Duane G. Blatt. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.

Jo Anne Reed

Jo Anne Reed,  Lansing, MI Born June 8, 1935, in St. Johns, MI; died October 30, 2004, at the age of 69.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frederick; sons, Douglas (Diane), Daniel and Mark; daughter, Julie; granddaughters, Sara, Binah and Jade; and grandson, Nicholas; and brother, Harold (Ellen) Fildey. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, friend, grandmother, pianist and angel. We will miss her body, but live in her spirit. Thank you.

A Memorial Celebration will be held on Thursday, November 4, 2004, at 1 PM at the Riverwalk Theater, 228 Museum, Lansing. In lieu of flowers, she wished you would make a contribution to either Potter Park Zoo, 1300 S. Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing, MI 48933, or St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1941. She would hug you for it.

Pamela M. Ballard

Pamela M. Ballard,  Lansing, MI Formerly of DeWitt Age 61, died October 30, 2004. Born August 7, 1943, in Lansing, MI. Pam retired from General Motors/EDS September 1, 2003, after 43 years of dedicated service and until her illness worked with the Catholic Social Services Refugee Services which was very dear to her heart. She was very active in many Community and Church organizations. She was currently a board member for LEAF, Lansing Education Advancement Foundation and volunteered for the past 25 years at Radio Talking Book. As a member of St. Gerard's Church, she served as a Eucharistic Minister and on many committees. In the past she had been involved with Boys and Girls Club and Big Brothers and Big Sisters programs. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert E. Ballard and brother, Bobby Ballard.

Surviving are her mother, Rosella Ballard; brothers and sisters, Lloyd (Margie) Ballard, Sharon (Don) Hunt, dee (Gary) Janz, Candy (Rick) Boyd and Bill (Cheryl) Ballard; many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, November 3, 2 PM at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge Street, DeWitt, with the Rev. John P. Klien and the Rev. John Fain of St. Gerard Catholic Church and the Rev. Dwight Ezop, Pastor of the Catholic Community of St. Jude, officiating. The Rite of Committal will follow in DeWitt Cemetery, DeWitt, MI. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt, Monday and Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM with the Rosary Tuesday, at 7 PM. The family will also receive friends at the church Wednesday, 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Catholic Social Services Refugee Services, 2722 E. Michigan, Lansing, MI 48912 or St. Gerard Catholic Church, 4437 W. Willow, Lansing, MI 48917, in memory of Pam.
