Gustav M. Pline

Gustav M. Pline, Westphalia, MI Age 77, died December 14, 2004, at his home. He was born on July 11, 1927 in Pewamo, MI the son of Gustav and Anna (Schafer) Pline. Gus was a member of the St. Mary's Church in Westphalia, St. Joseph's Society, a 4th Degree member of the Fr. Godez Assembly, and a member of the St. Jude Thadeus Council of the Knights of Columbus #2890, and a veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife, Laura, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. He also loved his special friends who they traveled with, the Vigilantes, and all those who helped him celebrate his life. His Church and his Catholic Faith were very dear to his heart. He was preceded in death by his siblings Vivian Schrauben, Doris Kohagen, Francis Pline, Marion Pline, James Pline and Judy Pohl.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Laura; three sons, Danny Pline, Gene (Shell) Pline, Kris (Chris) Pline; six daughters, Dianne (Bruce) Schafer, Connie (Pete) Pung, Pete (John Suckow) Pline, Janet (Doug) Feldpausch, Gina (Mike) Hengesbach, Kelly (Joe) Bengel; 27 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Wayne (Dolores) Pline, Leon (Jo) Pline; sister, Jean (Donald) Walter.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2004 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will take place at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel in Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Wednesday, 3 p.m. Thursday, and a Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to The Ark, in memory of Mr. Gustav M. Pline. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.

Harry "Max" Redman

redman.jpg (4295 bytes)Harry "Max" Redman died December 13, 2004 at the age of 85. Born in North Shade Township, Michigan, he was the son of Harry and Mary (Sherman) Redman. He was a graduate of St. Johns High School class of 1936 and lived in Mayville since 1985. He was a farmer and owner/operator of a trucking service for 26 years, a veteran of WWII, and collected and restored Studebaker automobiles. He married Lucille Harris January 30, 1985 in Florida and she survives him.

Also surviving are four sons, Bill Redman and John (Debbie) Redman, both of Boyne City, Thomas (Mary) Redman of Grand Rapids and Allen (Shirley) Redman of Bath, two daughters, Linda Holden of Charlevoix and Tina Redman of Lansing, 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and one sister Theda Wing of St. Johns. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Rex and Gale Redman.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 16, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, burial at Payne Cemetery with Sister Margo Tafoya officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Myrtle Elya

Myrtle Elya,  Mason, MI Formerly of Ovid, MI Born September 22, 1920, in Ovid, the daughter of Grant and Maude (Beers) Swarthout; died December 10, 2004, at the age of 84. Myrtle was a loving mother and grandmother, not only to her family, but also to all who knew her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion, in 1981 and sister, Majel Chesley.

Surviving are her daughter, Linda (Donald) Kast of Ovid; son Gary Elya of Mason; granddaughters, Sherri Kast and Becky (Karl) Dahlke both of Ovid; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Wyatt and Olivia; 1 niece and 2 nephews. We love you and will miss you so very much.

Graveside services will be held Monday, December 13, at 11:00 AM in Maple Grove Cemetery, Ovid, with Pastor Rob McPherson, of United Church of Ovid, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing, on Sunday from 2-4 PM.

Lewis T. “Lewie” Wilson

wilson_lewis.jpg (4647 bytes)Lewis T. “Lewie” Wilson age 73 of Elsie, Michigan died Thursday, December 9, 2004 at Carson City Hospital, Carson City, Michigan. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December, 9, 2004 at 11:00 A.M at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rev. Diane Gordon and Mrs. Kathy Leydorf will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 11, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. and Sunday, December 12, 2004 from 2-8 with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Lewis was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 6, 1931 the son of Wallace & Ethel (Wise) Wilson. He attended Bannister United Methodist Church and was a member of Prairie Baptist Church in Noblesville, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Wilson of Elsie, MI, three daughters Kathy Wilson of Elsie, MI, Julie & Brian Wolfe of Ashley, MI, Wendy Wilson of Muskegon, MI, one son Tom & Jessie Wilson of Ashley, MI, three grandchildren Seth, Kimberly and Jenna, three sisters Louise Edwards of Indiana, Midge Tolman of Indiana, Cheri Wilson of Michigan, and one brother Raymond Wilson of Indiana. Memorials may be made to Bannister United Methodist Church. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Norman E. Seelhoff

seelhoff_norman.jpg (5130 bytes)Norman E. Seelhoff died December 7, 2004 at the age of 80. He was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on October 31, 1924, the son of William and Clara (Wellmer) Seelhoff. He was a retired milk truck driver, a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in World War II, a member of V.F.W. Post #9455 and American Legion Post #502. Norman married Berma Lowe in Ovid on February 17, 1947 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his children, Dixie (Chris) Nethaway, Scott (Debbie) Seelhoff and Darla (Joe) Ladiski, grandchildren, Kelley (Bob) Nixon, Norman Nethaway, Bobby (Shawn) Seelhoff, Kim (Paul) English, Nathan Seelhoff, Amber (Tim) Ladiski, Autumn (Beau) Schneider and Adam (Stephanie) Nethaway, five great grandchildren, Heath, Heather, Holly, Austin & Megan, sisters, Arlene Simpson and Shirley (Gaylord) Long and brother, Donald (Hazel) Seelhoff. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandchild, Scotty Seelhoff and three sisters, Doris, Bernice and Lorraine.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 11, 2004 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, burial at Middlebury Cemetery with Pastors Scott Seelhoff and Eric Stanton officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday and Friday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Pastor Scott Seelhoff’s Sonshine Community Church or charity of donor’s choice.

Benjamin Allan Spalding

Benjamin Allan Spalding left this earthly family to care for his grandmothers, Cora Mayer and Carol Spalding with his tractors, tools and fishing poles, Sunday, December 5, 2004. Born December 3, 2004 to Kenneth Allan Spalding and Janette G. Mayer, Benjamin is also survived by a sister, Sara and a brother, Renn.

Also surviving are grandfathers, George Spalding and Marty Mayer; great grandmother, Hazel Spalding; special aunt, Judy Huntsman; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins. Benjamin was also preceded in death by a great grandfather, Fred Spalding.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 10, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass Street, St. Johns, MI. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the family.

Gloria G. Stevens

Stevens_Gloria.jpg (5281 bytes)Gloria G. Stevens died December 5, 2004 at the age of 61. She was born in Grand Rapids on September 29, 1943, the daughter of Jack and Donelda (Lindley) Knickerbocker. Gloria was a daycare provider, loved to dress as her clown character “Glo Glo”, baby-sit and photography. She married James Stevens at Eureka Christian Church on November 27, 1977 and he survives her.

Also surviving are her step-children, Rebecca Stevens of Grand Rapids, Polly Stevens of Maple Rapids and Bill (Karen) Stevens of Grand Rapids, two grandchildren, Rhiannona Eyer and Richard Eyer II, brother, Jim (Rita) Knickerbocker of Tupelo, Mississippi, aunts, Joan (Vic) Lootens of St. Johns and Mick (Bob) Wilkinson of Morley, many half brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Donelda Ruth Hagadus.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 9, 2004 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Home, 509 E. Main St., Maple Rapids, burial at Union Home Cemetery with Pastor Charlie Bellinger officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the Crystal Lake Community Church.

Walter J. March

Walter J. March,  DeWitt, MI Age 96, died December 6, 2004 in St. Johns, MI. Born March 31, 1908 in South Branch, MI. Mr. March was a lifelong mint farmer in Michigan and Wisconsin and was an avid hunter, fisherman and golfer.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ethel (1983) whom he married on October 4, 1933, infant sons, Gerald and Walter Jr., daughter, Sharron (1999), great-grandson, Alaric (1987) and sister, Lorraine.

Surviving are his son-in-law, Bill Weseman; 3 grandchildren, Mark (B.J.), David (Becky) and Julianne (Jim); 7 great-grandchildren, Brion (Jessie), Patrick, Alex, Theo, Geoffrey, Conner, and Erika; great-great-granddaughter, Asylin; niece, Ethel Huguelet; nephew, Dale Huguelet; great-nieces, Kathie Long and Kris Bresnahan; special friends, Marsha and Sam Smith; and close companion, Wilma Reed.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, 10:00 AM at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt. Interment will follow in South Bingham Cemetery, St. Johns, MI. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Thursday from 6-8 PM.
