Scott G.  Husted, 41, died Tuesday February 8, 2005 of natural causes. Services 11 a.m. Friday at Dodge Funeral Home, Middleton.

Grace S. Simon

Grace S. Simon,  Stanton, MI Formerly of Westphalia, MI Age 71, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on Sunday February 6, 2005. She was born on April 2, 1933 in St. Johns, MI the daughter of Aloysius and Louise (Spitzley) Platte. Mrs. Simon was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, as well as the Christian Mothers. Grace enjoyed cards, bingo and many other activities. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents.

Surviving are her husband, Celestine; 8 children, David (Lou Ann) Simon, Terrence Simon, Dale (Sherry) Simon, Geralyn (Steve) Stiffler, Luanne Peeper, Randy (Lisa) Simon, Jayke (Alan Kramer) Simon and Brenda (Fred Sims) Simon; 3 brothers, Gerald (Nancy) Platte, Duane (Barb) Platte and Joseph (Mary) Platte; 4 sisters, Marie (Alphonse) Thelen, Therese (Edward) Perrien, Sharon (Clark) Becker and Mary Catherine Platte; 19 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor, at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 10, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, Westphalia, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. both Tuesday and Wednesday. Rosaries will be prayed at 3 and 8 p.m. Tuesday, and at 3 p.m. Wednesday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland. jeancobb.jpg (4139 bytes)E. Jean Cobb, 93, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2005 at Memorial Healthcare Hospital in Owosso, MI. She was born January 8, 1912 in Wallingford, CT the daughter of John Sheridan and Anna (Sage) Mansfield, and resided most of her life in Elsie, MI. Jean graduated from Lyman Hall High School and then graduated from M.S.U. with the class of 1934. On October 31, 1936, she married Andrew Whitney Cobb in Wallingford, Connecticut. She was a school teacher who retired for Ovid Elsie Public Schools and a member of the United Methodist Church in Elsie, Michigan. She also was a teacher at Ovid Healthcare, a member of Farm Bureau of Michigan, Eastern Star, U.M.W., Girl Scouts, Grange, 4-H Leader, Centennial Farm Association, Elsie Literary Club, and she hosted 26 exchange students in her home over the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew in January of 1975; parents; son, Lawrence John Cobb; grandson, Michael Cobb; 2 sisters and 1 brother.

She is survived by her children, Lee Sheridan and Jacqueline Cobb of Grand Rapids, MI, Shirley Anne and Glenn Larsen of Grand Blanc, MI, Martha Elaine (Jerry Marshall) Coates of East Lansing, MI, Allen and Mary Ann Cobb of DeWitt, MI; 6 grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Cobb Hess of Elsie, MI.

Funeral Services will be held at Elsie United Methodist Church, Elsie, MI on Thursday, February 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jayme Kendall and Rev. James Dibbet officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, MI. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. with the family present 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. There will be and O.E.S. Service Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Elsie United Methodist Church, Memorial Healthcare Hospice, Centennial Farm Scholarship Program, Order of the Eastern Star, Eslie Chapter. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 7, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel. Mr. Thomas Bradley will officiate with burial at North Star Cemetery, North Star, Michigan. Visitation will be held Saturday 6-8 P.M. & Sunday 2-8 with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.

Orvin was born on May 27, 1931 in Wheeler, Michigan the son of Harry & Margaret ( McCammon ) Butcher. He moved to Ashley in 1958. Orvin married Mary Ann Studt in Ashley, Michigan on June 28, 1952. He worked for Alma Piston Company for 19 years and Retired from Gratiot County Road Commission after 26 years of service. Orvin served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was wounded and is a life member of VFW Post 7805 in Ithaca, he was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans. Orvin was a former fire chief of the Ashley Fire Department and was instrumental in getting the Ashley community an ambulance & rescue service in which he served as a member. He was a former councilman and Village President of Ashley. Orvin was the Grand Marshall of the Ashley Centennial Celebration.

He is survived by his wife Mary Ann Butcher of Ashley, MI, 1 daughter Terry & Frank Sefl Jr. of Ashley, MI, 2 sons Bill Butcher & Connie Freed of Elwell, MI, Jack Butcher of Kenyon, Minnesota, 10 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren, a godchild, Stephanie Bancroft and 1 sister Margaret Richardson of Flint, MI. He is predeceased by his parents, 1 granddaughter Shawna Marie, 2 sisters, Marian, Marie and 4 brothers, Junior, R.D., Gordon & Donald.

Memorials may be made to Ashley Rescue Squad. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Ithaca Chapel.

Nettie E. Lietzke

Nettie E. Lietzke,  Huntsburg, OH Formerly of Detroit and Eagle, MI Local Lady comes home to rest. Nettie E. Lietzke, age 91 passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2005 in Claridon Twp., Geauga County, OH. She was born July 20, 1913, daughter of Horace and Eulala Peake and grew up in Eagle, MI. She was a member of Eagle Methodist Church as a youth and she was a member of many different churches for most of her life. Professionally, she was a Food Service Supervisor at Clinton  Memorial Hospital, St. Johns, MI and later at Heather Hill Care Center, Chardon, OH. Her life was completely devoted to raising her 5 children and their half sister as a single mom. She has resided at Holly Hill Nursing Home, Huntsburg, OH, since July of 2000.

She is survived by her 5 children, Donald (Lorraine) Lietzke of Brimley, MI, Barbara (Roger) Dunckel of Ferndale, MI, Carolyn (David) Titus of Chardon, OH, James (Judy) Lietzke of Hinkley, OH, Janice (Jerry) Hopp of Ferndale, MI and their half-sister, Cynthia (Jason) Hurst of Panama City Beach, FL; 15 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her infant grandson, Johnathon David Titus and brother, Nathan Peake.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eagle Methodist Church, 14258 Michigan St., Eagle, MI with Pastor Judy Scholten officiating. Interment will follow at Niles Cemetery, Eagle Twp., Eaton County. The family will begin to receive friends at the church from 11:00 a.m. until service time. The family is being served by the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge.
