Sidney Ruth Pung

Sidney Ruth Pung,  Howell, MI Sidney Ruth Pung, born February 4, 2005, beloved infant daughter of Chad and Alice (Bonfield) Pung of Howell, died Monday, February 14, 2005 at University Hospitals, Ann Arbor.

She is survived by her parents; sister, Avery; grandparents, Ralph and Susie Pung of Fowler, MI, and James and Peggy Bonfield of Mount Sterling, KY.

Services for Sidney are Friday 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Parish, 545 N. Maple St., Fowler with Father Steven Makranyi, celebrant. Interment to follow in Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. Visitation Thursday 4-7 p.m. at MacDonald's Funeral Home, 315 N. Michigan Ave., Howell, MI (517-546-2800).

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, Bannister, MI. Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate with burial at Eureka Cemetery, Eureka, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Monday, February 14, 2005 5-8 P.M. & Tuesday, February 15, 2005 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Rosary will be prayed on Tuesday Evening at 6:00 P.M.

Stephen was born in Pompeii, Michigan on February 15, 1939 the son of Andrew & Anna ( Koreni ) Minarik. He graduated from Elsie High School and resided most of his life in the Elise & St. Johns Area. Stephen married Judy Jelinek at St. Cyril's Catholic Church in Bannister on October 11, 1958. He worked for MMPA for 37 years, Owner of Happy Hour Bar in Bannister for 19 years, and Eureka Hardware for 10 years. He was a farmer for his whole life. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan.

He is survived by his wife Judy Minarik of St. Johns, MI, daughter Cheryl & Brett Welton of St. Johns, MI, daughter Christina & Doug Bensinger of Holland, MI, son Terry Minarik of St. Johns, MI, daughter-in-law Maryann Minarik of St. Johns, MI, 10 grandchildren, brother Joe & Viola Minarik of Fowler, MI, brother Paul & Barb Minarik of St. Johns, MI, brother Andy & Marge Minarik of Elsie, MI, sister Betty & John Kirby of Elsie, MI, brother Vince Minarik of Elsie, MI, also survived by many nieces & nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, and son Michael Minarik.

Memorials may be made to St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan or Donors Choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Marian Clara Pohl

pohl_marian.jpg (5027 bytes)Marian Clara Pohl, Fowler, Michigan, age 80, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully with her family beside her on February 12, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. She was born on June 9, 1924 in Fowler, the daughter of Bernard and Antoinette Ulrich. She married Norbert J. Pohl on June 10, 1947. Marian was an involved member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church as a lector, Eucharistic Minister, Outreach Eucharistic Minister, Christian Mothers and volunteer at RAVE. Marian loved spending time and singing with her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing cards and traveling. Our Mother will long be remembered for her gentle spirit and generosity of heart.

Surviving are her loving husband Norbert, 10 children: Bob (Gayle) Pohl, Stan (Patty) Pohl, Al (Ellen) Pohl, Jerome (Ann Marie) Pohl, Mel (Pam) Pohl, Marie (Eric) Cross, Cathy Simon, Sue (Dean) Schrauben, Carol Crichton, Phyllis (Mark) Ventocilla, 36 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters and brothers Burlene Schafer, Bernard (Betty) Ulrich, Margaret (Eugene) Thelen, Sister Mary Bernice Pohl, Rosalyn (Delbert) Smith, Sister Dorothy Pohl, Sister Bernadine Pohl, Father Leon Pohl, Gerald (Joan) Pohl, Sister Mary Ann Pohl and Joseph (Marie) Pohl. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Dolores Orweller, brother-in-law Leon Schafer, sister-in-law Helen Pohl, and grandson Benjamin Simon.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Fr. Steve Makranyi at 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday February 15, 2005 at Most Holy Trinity Church followed by the Rite of Committal at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery, Fowler. Visitation will be 2:00 – 9:00P.M. on Sunday and 9:00 A.M. - 9:00P.M. on Monday with the family present 2:00 – 4:00P.M. and 7:00 – 9:00P.M. both days at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler. Rosaries will be prayed at 3:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. on Sunday and at 3:00 P.M. on Monday. There will be a Scripture Service on Monday at 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Maryknoll Missions or the Most Holy Trinity Educational Trust Fund.

Mary A. Smith

Born May 25, 1923 in Westphalia the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Schmitt) Theis and lived most of her life in Fowler. She was a member of Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Christian Womens Association and was housekeeper for the Most Holy Trinity Rectory for 10 years. She married Charles W. Smith October 4, 1948 and he preceded her in death September 11, 1976.

Mary is survived by four daughters, Joanna (Marion) Brown of Ithaca, Agnes (Thomas) Moore of Fowler, Diana (Stephen) Cook of Pewamo and Helen Smith of Fowler, one son, John Smith of Fowler, five grandchildren and two great grandsons. She is also survived by four sisters, Rosaline Kolp of Westphalia, Josephine (James) Fox of Portland, Catherine (Gerald) Haeck of Grand Ledge and Christine Smith of Westphalia, two brothers, Henry (Esther) Theis of Fowler and Edwin (JoAnn) Theis of Portland.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Thursday, February 17, 2005 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fowler with the Rev. Fr. Steve Makranyi officiating. Interment will follow in Most Holy Trinity Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. and Wednesday 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. at the Goerge Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia Street, Fowler with Rosaries being prayed Tuesday at 8:00 P.M. and Wednesday at 3:00 P.M. and a Vigil Service Wednesday at 8:00 P.M.

Nathan Beechler

beechler_nate.jpg (5715 bytes)Nathan D. Beachler, 31 died suddenly Friday Feb. 11, 2005. Nathan was born Aug. 10, 1973 in Lansing, MI the son of David & Linda (Bunce) Beachler. He had worked for ATM Enterprises in Lansing and at Fairlane Enterprises in St. Johns. He married Rachelle J. Mesh on June 6, 1992 in St. Johns. He enjoyed playing the guitar and was a NASCAR racing fan.

He is survived by his wife, Shelly, son David Andrew, daughters Nicole and Julia, Sister Donna Beachler of St. Johns, Brothers John of Charlotte and Scott of St. Johns. Parents David & Linda Beachler of St. Johns, grandmother Lorina Beachler of St. Johns. Father in law Dave & Pat Mesh of Kincheloe, MI and Mother-in-law Ellen & Chuck Perry of St. Johns.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, Wednesday Feb. 16, 2005 at 11:00
A.M. with Rev. Robert Prange officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends on Monday and Tuesday 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home.
Memorials may be given to his children.

Patricia was born in Flint, Michigan on June 4, 1942 the daughter of Frank & Helen ( Belill ) Worden. She resided most of her life in Ovid & Bannister, Michigan. Patricia graduated from Ovid Elsie High School with the class of 1960. She worked for the Bannister Bar for many years and she enjoyed ceramics.

Survivors include her children; Theresa & Frank Thompson of Carland, MI, Lisa & ( Charles Whisman ) Long of Bannister, MI, Kelli Janes of Ashley, MI, Kathi & William Wycoff of Martin, MI, daughter-in-law Melvia ( Frank ) Quine of Ovid, MI, mother Mildred Worden of Ovid, MI, sisters; Frances Bashore of Ashley, MI, Diana Newman of Ashley, MI, niece Kimberly Monahan of Ashley, MI, grandchildren Misty Janes, Curtis & Carrie Long, William, Dakota & Laura Wycoff, Melissa (Jeremy) Smith, Alicia (DJ Robbins) Janes, Anthony, Jessie & Janelle Janes, James Thompson, great grandchildren; Kayla & Karli Smith, Harley Janes, Peyton Robbins and several great nieces & nephews.

She is predeceased by her parents, sons Paul & Bradley Janes, brother Frank Worden, sister Irma Worden, nephew Frank Worden II and granddaughter Chelsea Janes. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Jayme Kendall will officiate. Visitation will be held on Friday from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. There will be a Masonic Service at 7:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the funeral home.

Sidney was born in St. Johns, Michigan on August 6, 1907 the son of Sidney B. & Lena ( Bailey ) Keys. He graduated from St. Johns High School, St. Johns, Michigan and resided most of his life in Elsie, Michigan. Sidney married Neva Bryant in 1928. She died August 13, 1992. He was the former owner & operator of S.B. Keys & Son in Elsie, MI. He was also a Golf Instructor at O-E, and he worked at Twin Oaks Golf Course. He had a passion for golf. He attended Elsie United Methodist Church, Elsie, Michigan. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Elsie Chapter and held several office positions, and also helped with other Masonic Lodges in the area.

Survivors include his son Jack & Susan Keys of Lansing, MI, daughter Jennifer Ann Keys of Ovid, MI, son Bud & Gail Keys of Florida, daughter Jeanette Keys of Florida, daughter Joanne Keys Kricker of Florida, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and special friend Florence Hinkley of Elsie, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, and grandchildren Kyle & Melissa Keys. Memorials may be made to O-E Community Foundation Sports Program Fund.
