Stanley E. Caris

Stanley E. Caris,  87, of Hastings, formerly of Middleton, retired Federal-Mogul employee, died Monday February 21, 2005. Services 11 a.m. Thursday at Dodge Funeral Home, Middleton.

Frank  Demjen

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor William Stites will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2005 from 2-8 P.M. with the family present 2-4 & 6-8 P.M.

Frank was born in Cartherite, New Jersey on April 8, 1917 the son of Joseph & Elizabeth (Szuco) Demjen. He resided most of his life in Elsie, Michigan. Frank married his lovely wife Elenor “Babe” Ross in Terre Haute, IN on September 5, 1943. She went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2002. He retired from General Motors of Flint after 19½ years. There was nothing Frank, our father, grandfather & great grandfather loved more than fishing, working on cars in his garage, watching wrestling on Monday nights, and listening to his 8 track tapes. He also loved his dog Little One.

He is survived by his 3 children; Harold & Marlus Molly Deming of Elsie, MI, Judy & Ron Miller of Elsie, MI, Jerry Deming of Elsie, MI, daughter-in-law Carol (Tony) Deming of Elsie, MI, 11 grandchildren; Sherry & Wayne Wilson of Elsie, MI, Eric & Amanda Deming of Elsie, MI, Chad Deming of Elsie, MI, Frank & Jodi Deming of Bannister, MI, Randy & Pam Deming of Elsie, MI, Sarah & Tim Dingler of Brant, MI, Joanne & Jason Harris of Oakley, MI, Rhonda & Scott Sawvel of Oakley, MI, Traci Miller of Elsie, MI, Joe & Spring Miller of Elsie, MI, Theresa Miller of Owosso, MI, 22 great grandchildren, 3 sisters; Bertha Fesko of Owosso, MI, Julia Paski of Ashley, MI, Mary Paski of Saginaw, MI, 2 brothers; Mike & Edie Demjen of St. Charles, MI, John Demjen of Jackson, MI, care-giver & best friend Juanita “Beth” Frost of Elsie, MI, and lots of nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, sisters; Elizabeth, Anna, & Susie, brother Joe and son Johnny

Kenneth L. Griffith

griffith_kenneth.jpg (3617 bytes)Kenneth L. Griffith died February 21, 2005, at the age of 68. He was born in Bannister on June 5, 1936, the son of Raymond and Lillian (Holechek) Griffith. He retired from the U.S. Air Force as a hydraulic technician, was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 64 and the American Legion Post #153. Kenneth married Joan Bolander in Hawaii on February 26, 1955 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his son, James Craig Griffith, daughters, Katherine (John) Love and Patricia Ann Griffith, all of St. Johns, mother, Lillian Griffith of St. Johns, grandchildren, Erik Love, Kristin Griffith, Jamie Griffith, Kaitlyn Love, Haley Griffith and Hilary Griffith, brother, Edward (Carol) Griffith of Little Rock, Arkansas, sisters, Joan (Dale) Ososkie of Cadillac and Carol (Greg) Bauer of Grand Ledge, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Griffith and brother, Donald Griffith.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, February 24, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery with Rev. George Brinley officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the Osgood Funeral Home. Military services provided by St. Johns Honor Guard. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Merle J. Mee

Merle J. Mee, age 91, formerly of Lansing, died Saturday, February 19, 2005 at her residence. She was born February 28, 1913 to William and Francena (Burpee) Joy in Lansing. She married James Mee in June 1932 in Lansing, and he preceded her in death on February 19, 1979. She retired from General Motors-Fisher Body and until recently spent her winters in Florida.

She is survived by her children Robert (Patricia) Mee of DeWitt and Patricia (Lee) Boone of Ruskin, FL. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Vicki (John) Price, Dan (Annie) Boone, Jamie (David) Farner, Rachelle Walters, Robert (Dawn) Mee and Christopher (Lynn) Mee; her great grandchildren: Brooke, Ashley, Paige, Erica, Erin, Alex, Samantha, Jacqueline, Christina, Patricia, Josh, Jackie, Stephanie, Melissa and Danielle; and her brother Cecil Joy of Rio Vista, CA. Along with husband she is also preceded in death by her son Carl Mee and three brothers.

There will be a memorial service at a later date in Graham Cemetery with the Pastor Kay Pratt officiating. Condolences may be made in the form of a donation to Sparrow Hospice. Arrangements by the Osgood Funeral Home, Saint Johns.

Nancy “Joani” Adams

adams_nancy.jpg (4382 bytes)Nancy “Joani” Adams passed away Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the age of 53. She was born April 5, 1951 in Roscommon, MI the daughter of Melvin and Betty (Richardson) McCutcheon. Joani was an administrative secretary to Senator Harry Gast, a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church in Grand Ledge, loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed playing golf with her husband.

Surviving is her husband of 33 years, Terry; two sons, Daniel (Jill) of Grand Rapids, Jason (Timilyn) of Lansing; one daughter, Erin Adams of Lansing; two grandsons, Zachary and Hayden; father, Melvin McCutcheon of Roscommon; sister ,Janet (McCutcheon) McBeath of Lansing; two brothers, Thomas of Roscommon and Gerald of Reno,NV; three nieces, five nephews, and many
caring friends.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at St. Michaels Catholic Church, 345 Edwards, Grand Ledge with Rev. Fr. George Daisy as celebrant. Interment or Rite of Burial will follow at Delta Center Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Palmer, Bush and Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Delta Chapel, 6020 W. Saginaw, Lansing and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Michaels Catholic Church with a rosary being prayed at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Mid-Michigan, P.O. Nicholas W. “Nic” Greenhoe

greenhoe.jpg (5186 bytes)Nicholas W. “Nic” Greenhoe passed away February 18, 2005 at the age of 14 after a courageous battle with cancer. Nic was born in Lansing on June 2, 1990, the son of Dale and Jill (McKay) Greenhoe. He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, O-E J.V. golf team, O-E Youth Football team and O-E 8th grade basketball team.

Surviving are his parents, Dale and Jill Greenhoe, sister, Devan, brother, Gregory, maternal grandmother, Sylvia McKay, paternal grandmother, Joan Warren-Bunker (husband Frank), paternal grandfather, William Greenhoe (wife Margo), several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Dean McKay and paternal grandfather, Harold Warren.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Monday, February 21, 2005 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 620 N. Mabbit Rd., Ovid, burial at Maple Grove Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. The family will receive friends 4-8 P.M. Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, with a vigil service at 7 P.M. Sunday. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the Nic Greenhoe Sports Fund.

Loyal A. Stevens

Stevens_Loyal.jpg (4476 bytes)Loyal A. Stevens died February 18, 2005, at the age of 80. He was born in Olive Township, Michigan on October 4, 1924, the son of Amos and Donna (Nelson) Stevens. He retired as a drafting supervisor with the State of Michigan in 1984, was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a life member of the American Legion Post #153. Loyal married Hazel Wanless in St. Johns on January 30, 1943 and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2004.

Surviving are his daughter, Patricia Paksi of St. Johns, two sons, Blaine (Chris) Stevens and Dennis (Pat) Stevens, all of St. Johns, six grandchildren, Kimberly Paksi of St. Johns, Craig Paksi of Lansing, Robert (Amber) Stevens of Onondaga, Jessica (Ben) Whitehead of Kentwood, Donavan Stevens and Joshua Stevens, both of St. Johns, three great grandchildren, Cody Armitage, Mackenzie Stevens and Tyler Whitehead, brother Gayle “Pete” (Mary) Stevens of St. Johns, sister, Joyce (Jack) Hughes of Howell, two step brothers, Wendell (Jan) Workman and Carl Workman and step sister, Janet Herblet. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two nephews and step father, Arden Workman.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 21, 2004 at the Osgood Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Saturday and 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorial may be made to Clinton County Home Hospice or Pilgrim United Methodist Church.

Debra Mae (Morence) Woodrum

Debra Mae (Morence) Woodrum died February 18, 2005 at the age of 45. She was born in Owosso, MI on July 31, 1959, the daughter of Harold and Margaret (Vincent) Morence. She married Danny Woodrum in St. Johns on July 27, 2001 and he survives him.

Also surviving are three sons, Bradley (Heather) Torrey of Ovid, Joey Torrey of Elsie and James Woodrum of Harrison, two daughters, Jamie (Mike) Workman and Emily Torrey, all of Elsie, step son, Perry Woodrum of Mason, sister, Elaine Kelley of Ovid, brother, Harold (Maripat) Morence, Jr. of Ovid and fourteen grandchildren.

Memorial services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, February 21, 2005 at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Ovid.

John L. Simon

John L. Simon,  Westphalia, MI Age 87, gentle brother, brother-in-law and uncle passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2005. He was born on July 22, 1917 in Westphalia, MI the son of William and Mary (Smith) Simon. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, as well as the Knights of Columbus St. Jude Thaddeus Westphalia Council #2890. John loved farming his land and visiting with his neighbors, friends and family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin, Tony and Leonard; brother-in-law, Byron Howe; sister-in-law, Grace Simon.

Surviving are his sister, Leonore Howe; brother, Celestine Simon; sisters-in-law, Juliana and Norma Simon; many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 21, 2005 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, Westphalia, from 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Rosaries will be prayed at 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 p.m. Sunday. A Scriptural Wake Service will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the local 4-H clubs, in memory of Mr. John Simon.
