Delphine Ione Gantz

Delphine Ione Gantz died March 7, 2005, at the age of 84. She was born in Fulton Township, Michigan on July 12, 1920, the daughter of Lewis and Veda (Naldrett) Reynolds. She was a member of Heritage Baptist Church in DeWitt. Delphine married Jay Gantz in Ithaca on July 23, 1937 and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2004.

Surviving are her sons, Lyle (Patricia) Gantz of DeWitt and William (Wanetta) Gantz of Webberville, daughter, Judy (Gary) Whitford of St. Johns, grandchildren, Belinda (Greg) O’Nash, Gale Benjamin, Tammy Gantz, Terri (David) Latta, Aaron (Malissa) Gantz, Jason Gantz, Joseph Gantz, Jack (Kari) Gantz, Jill (Max) Babbit, Julie (Ken) Sokol, Jayneen (Bill) Ewing, Marianne (Larry) Schloegl, Kristi (Mike) Moore, Tim Whitford and Jeff Whitford, 39 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, March 11, 2005 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Payne Cemetery with Pastor Shawn Smith and Pastor Jason Gantz officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Heritage Baptist Church.

Maxine B. Snyder

Maxine B. Snyder, age 86 of Frostproof, Florida, died March 1, 2005 at home. Maxine Snyder was born in Greenville, Ohio January 15, 1919. She was the daughter of Charles and Pearl (Grice) Whitaker. She has lived in Owosso most of her life while wintering in Florida since 1983. Maxine married Robert Snyder August 15, 1937 and he preceded her in death November 2, 1982. She retired from Universal Electric in 1976.

Maxine is survived by three daughters, Joyce (Ambrose) Powell of Laingsburg, Sherry (Robert) Petteys of Florida and Barbara (Charles) Langhorst of Williamston, five sons, Gary (Kay) Snyder and Roger (Bonnie) Snyder, both of Owosso, Jack (Zann) Snyder of North Carolina, Kendrick (Sandra) Snyder of Grand Rapids, and Raymond (Angie) Snyder of Corunna, 22 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren. Maxine is also survived by one brother, Dick (Lee) Whitaker of Prudenville and one sister, Laura Jones of Laingsburg. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Kermit, Harold "Shorty", twin brothers, Vernon and Merlin, and two sisters, Lorene Bashore and Wilma Bensinger.

There will be no visitation. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndle, Florida 33823.

Bernice M. Patton

Bernice M. Patton died March 5, 2005 at the age of 90. Born May 28, 1914 in Carson City, Michigan the daughter of Richard and Anna (Couzzins) Kavanaugh. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Carson City, Ladies Altar Society, and Carson City Art Club. She formerly owned/operated Carson Lockers. Bernice married Kenneth Patton August 20, 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1983.

Bernice is survived by her children, Janice McIntosh of Florida, Lois Britten of Ithaca, Helen (Tom) Schafer of St. Johns, Richard (Becky) Patton of Carson City and Patrick (Linda) Patton of Mulliken, 20 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and one sister, Esther (Morris) Riker of Carson City. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, and three brothers. The family would like to extend special thanks to Carson City Hospital I.C.U. for their excellent caring services. Also to Country Friends in Sumner, where she resided, for their fine care and making her feel like a family member.

There will be no visitation or services. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements by Osgood Funeral Homes, St. Johns.

L.J. "Jack" Bradley

bradley_jack.jpg (3937 bytes)L.J. “Jack” Bradley died March 4, 2005 at the age of 78. Born January 11, 1927 in Midland the son of H. Nelson and Mabel (Drummond) Bradley. He was a member of the Looking Glass River Sportsmen Club. L.J. married Helen Ackerman in Midland on August 22, 1947 and she preceded him in death on March 5, 2004.

Surviving are sons, Gary Bradley of Moneta, Virginia and Douglas Bradley of Laingsburg, brother, Robert Bradley and sister in law, Louise Ackerman.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 9, 2005 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Midland Cemetery with Pastor Paul Daniels officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Marie Boles

Marie Boles,  Wacousta, MI Passed away February 27, 2005. She was born December 24, 1930 to James Frederick and Floella Woodhams. Marie was an active member of Mt. Hope Church in Lansing and served in the Women's Ministry and the fifty plus club. Beloved wife of the late Albert Boles October 2, 2003.

Loving mother of Vickie Ross and Janell (Bill) Hess both of Grand Ledge. Grandmother of Kiel King. Sister of Alvin (Joyce) Woodhams of St. Johns, Delores (Richard) Bashore of Portland, and Barbara (David) Holdridge of Louisiana.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, March 9, 2005, 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Hope Church, 202 S. Creyts Road, Lansing with The Reverend Ross McElroy officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to the church building fund. Arrangements by Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge.

Ruth C. Poetzinger

Ruth C. Poetzinger,  East Lansing  Born Ruth Champney in Lansing, she spent her early years in Detroit, and graduated from Highland Park High School. She attended Michigan State University where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta women's social sorority. She also attended Lansing Business University and Lansing Community College. She married Edgar Ryon and lived in Lansing until after WWII, when she moved to St. Johns. She was a member of the St. Johns Episcopal Church, the Alter Guild and served as president of the Clinton County Hospital Woman's Auxiliary. She returned to Lansing in 1959 and retired from the Michigan State Legislature in 1980. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and the Junior League of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her husband, James.

Surviving are: daughter, Kathleen (Peter) Hubbell; step-daughters, Jill Petzinger and Lynn (Robert) Beard. Also surviving are: 2 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and 5 great step-grandchildren.

The family will be holding private memorial services at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in memory of Ruth Poetzinger. Arrangements by the Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

George F. Mehney

George F. Mehney died March 3, 2005, at the age of 55. He was born in St. Johns on February 25, 1950, the son of Roston and Ruth (White) Mehney. He was the former owner of G&J Auto Body in St. Johns and attended Countryside Bible Church of Jonesville. George married Becky Page in St. Johns on September 10, 1982 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his children, Matt (Tina) Mehney, Andrew (Jamie) Mehney, Tristen (fiancé Cory Berkhousen) Bergau, Cortney (Abraham) VanEtten and Cody (Angela King) Mehney, fifteen grandchildren, brother, Bruce (Janette) Mehney, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harry and Mary Page, eight nieces and nephews, sister-in-law, Sharon (Doug) Henney. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Rusty Mehney.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, with Pastor John Lillie officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home.

Ruth Anna Kennedy

Ruth Anna (Foster) Kennedy,  Crystal, MI Formerly of Lansing and DeWitt Township Age 79, died February 28, 2005. Born February 4, 1926 in Blanchard, MI. Ruth went to be with her Lord and Savior and loving husband, Art who went before her on November 9, 2004. Art has been standing in Heavens gate waiting for her. Mrs. Kennedy retired from the State of Michigan Health Department in 1980, and was previously employed with Ingham County Extended Care Facility and her parent's grocery store, Foster's Grocery in Blanchard. Ruth and Art loved flowers, gardening, making pies, canning, picking fruit, and genealogy, especially her DeWitt family genealogy (heritage). She was a warm and caring mom to all of her children, grand and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, James "Art" Kennedy; parents, Fred Leon and Anna Belle (DeWitt) Foster; brother, Homer "Bob" Foster; sister, Leone McAdams; sisters-in-law, Iva Miller, Osa Cummings; son-in-law, Wayne Pathfinder; brother-in-law, Harry Voorheis.

Surviving are her children, Anna (Ronald) Showers of St. Johns, Mary Neumeister of Lansing, Chet (Carol) Urie of Crystal, John (Barb) Urie of Mt. Pleasant, James (Deb) Urie of Mason, Betty Pathfinder of Lansing and Artith (James) Florian of Florida; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Virginia (Clifford) Swan of Mt. Pleasant, Betty (James) Bates of Owosso and Mary Voorheis of Florida; many "special" nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 5, 1:00 p.m. at the Gorsline-Runciman Co. DeWitt Chapel, 111 S. Franklin, DeWitt with Pastor Charles Dalton of Pine Grove Church, Crystal, officiating. Interment will be in Deepdale Memorial Gardens, Lansing. The family will receive friends at the Chapel Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions to the wishes of the family in memory of Mrs. Kennedy.
