Galen L. Davis,  33, residential carpenter, died Sunday June 5, 2005. Services 1 p.m. Thursday at Osgood Funeral Homes, Houghton Chapel, Ovid.

Oretha M. Bissell

Oretha M. Bissell, 92, retired State of Michigan employee, died Sunday June 5, 2005.  She was born December 14, 1912 in Gratiot County, the daughter of Clifford and Iva (Wright) Halsted. She retired from the Accounting Office of the Department of Social Services and was a member of the Congregational Christian Church in Maple Rapids.

Surviving are one daughter, Barbara Jolls of Perrinton, four grandchildren, Rodney (Sharon) Bissell, Dorinda (Mike) Townsend, Todd (Judy) Bissell of St. Johns, and Krista (Scott) Walton, of Perrinton, nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Alice Aldrich of St. Johns, and Beth Dean of Maple Rapids, two brothers, Virgil (Vada) Halsted, Frank (Mag) Halsted, of St. Johns, and sister-in-law Mildred Halsted of California, one daughter in law, Dorene Bissell of St. Johns, and several nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Richard Bissell, one sister, Coryll Henry, and three brothers, Carl, Vernon and Valgene Halsted.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 8, 2005 at the Abbott Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, Maple Rapids, burial at Sowle Cemetery with Pastor Jerry Kissling officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Cecilio S. SanJuan

Cecilio S. SanJuan died June 1, 2005 at the age of 85. He was born in Manila, Philippines on June 9, 1919, the son of Hilario and Maria G. (Santos) SanJuan and came to the United States on December 25, 1982. He was a hotel supervisor and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Cecilio married Vicenta Ninonuevo on January 22, 1939 and she survives him.

Also surviving are two sons, Ronaldo (Erlinda) SanJuan, M.D. of Farmington, MI and Alfredo (Beatriz) SanJuan, M.D. of St. Johns, two daughters, Zenaida Henzon of Sterling Heights and Ma. Theresa (David) LaBedz of Warren, nine grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Vicenta SanJuan of Hawaii. He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Saturday, June 4, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. Burial will take place at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, MI at a later date with immediate family attending. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7 P.M. Friday.

Arthella Marie Pattison

pattison_arthella.jpg (4519 bytes)Arthella Marie Pattison died June 2, 2005 at the age of 90. Born in St. Johns on January 31, 1915, she was the daughter of Floyd and Florence (Henning) Eiseler. She was a past member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church of Evart where she was an organist for 10 years and a current member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns. She was also a teacher and a homemaker. Arthella married Reo Pattison on November 7, 1936 and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1997.

She is survived by her children, Jerry (Connie) Pattison of Florida, Janice Pease of Laingsburg, Donald (Kathy) Pattison of Elsie, Dan (friend Alice) Pattison of Colorado, Ronald (Lydia) Pattison of St. Johns and Robert (Tami) Pattison of Elsie, 28 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren, sisters, Mary Ann Salters and Theresa (Skip) Lundy, brothers, Bernard Eiseler, Norman (Sally) Eiseler and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Marilyn Pattison, brothers, Bob, John and Rodney, sisters, Juanita and Veronica.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 6, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy officiating. The family will recieve friends 6-8 P.M. Saturday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the Osgood Funeral Home with a vigil service at 7 P.M. Sunday. Memorials may be made to Hospice for Clinton County.

Elizabeth (Libby) Kingsbury Phillips

phillips_libby.jpg (4164 bytes)Elizabeth (Libby) Kingsbury Phillips passed away June 1, 2005 at the age of 88. She was born August 24th, 1916. Libby married Donald Alvin Phillips in 1939 and was married for 47 years until Donald passed away in 1986. Born in Boise, Idaho, Libby lived in Saint Johns, Michigan from 1927, age 11, until 1945. She taught school there beginning her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse. Libby and Don raised their three children in Lansing, Michigan. Libby returned to teaching in 1958 substituting for the Waverly School District, and then teaching full time for the Lansing School District thru 1968. In later life she lived in Plymouth, MI and then with her son in several locations, until moving to Decatur, IL in 2000. Despite the moves Saint Johns was always home and her brother Richard (Dick) Kingsbury and his family are very close. Libby will be buried in Mt. Rest cemetery next to her husband Don and her parents Percy and Augusta Kingsbury. Children, both her own and her students, coupled with a love of growing flowers in every piece of land she touched were her passions. Heaven will become a more beautiful place with her arrival.

Libby is survived by her three children John Phillips and wife Marcia of Decatur, Illinois, Larry Phillips and wife Gail of Delton, Michigan and Ann Hayford and husband Forrest of Milford, Michigan. She also has six grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent to The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, 833 W. Washington Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607.
