Roy L. Flanner, Jr.

flanner.jpg (4101 bytes)Roy L. Flanner, Jr. died July 4, 2005 at the age of 62. Born October 19, 1942 in Elsie, the son of Roy and Casilda (Pearce) Flanner. He retired from General Motors Lansing Plant in 1993 after 27 years of service. Roy was a member of the U.A.W. Local 652. He married Judy Dickenson in Ovid on January 17, 1963 and she survives him.

Also surviving are five children, Annette (Kevin) Cotie of Comins, MI, Bryon (Kim) Flanner of Owosso, Edward (Regina) Flanner of Fayette City, PA, Donnie (Bernadette) Flanner of Elsie, and Tony (Mary) Flanner of Ovid, fourteen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, six brothers and sisters, Charlotte (James) Griffith of Eatonville, WA, Kathleen (John) Hower of Bancroft, Casilda Meredith of St. Johns, Lewis (Zeffy) Flanner of Zephyrhills, FL, Richard Flanner of Elsie, Patrick (Sandy) Flanner of Ovid, four half-siblings, Alice, Helen, Leroy, Robert, and several nieces and nephews. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter, Nicole, two half sisters, Margery, Nina, and one half brother, George.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid, MI, burial at Duplain Cemetery with Pastor Merlin Pratt officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of contributions to Heartland Hospice, 1426 Straits Dr., Bay City, MI 48706. Casket bearers will be Edward Flanner, Bryon Flanner, Donnie Flanner, Tony Flanner, Kevin Cotie and Patrick Flanner.

A.J. “Bud” Peplau

peplau.jpg (5428 bytes)A.J. “Bud” Peplau died July 5, 2005, at the age of 76. Born in Gregory, MI on May 22, 1929, the son of Emil J. and Stella May (Linderman) Peplau. He was a retired farmer and Motor Wheel employee, a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a friend of Greenbush United Methodist Church. He married Eunice Pitchford Ribar in Lansing on July 15, 1967 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his children, Sue Dolan of Lansing, Dennis Kowalski of Sun City, CA, Cynthia K. Edwards of Colorado Springs, CO, Joan (Butch) Schneider and Marie (Ken) Wood, all of St. Johns, seven grandchildren, four great grandchildren, sisters, Shirley Towne of St. Johns and Iola (Gary) Otis of Holt, brother, Rudy (Mary) Peplau of Florida, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Emil Peplau and three sisters, Gladys Gust, Norma Cone and Mabel Cross.

Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 8, 2005 at the Osgood Funeral Home, burial at Eureka Cemetery with Pastor Tyler Barlage officiating. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday and Thursday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Ingham Medical Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center.

Thomas L. "Tom" O'Bryant

"Tom" O'Bryant,  Eagle, MI  passed away July 1, 2005 at the age of 58.  Tom was born in Gratiot County, graduated from Grand Ledge High School, Class of 1964 and has lived in Wacousta for 50 years. Tom began his career as an electrician and is a member of Local 665. He served as the Watertown Township Supervisor and the DeWitt Township Tax Assessor. He served as the Clinton County Drain Commissioner for 12 years. Tom was a member and past master of DeWitt-Wacousta Masonic Lodge #359 F.&A.M. and a member of Wacousta Chapter #133 O.E.S.

Tom will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years, Jan; his parents, Jim and Shirley O'Bryant; and mother-in-law, Gretchen Elam. He was the caring father of daughters, Tonia (Scott) Nemecek and Tami (Matt) Chalmers and devoted "papa" of Christopher Chalmers and Nicholas Nemecek. He is also survived by his brothers, Dale and Mark O'Bryant and a niece and nephew.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2005--11:00 a.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home, Grand Ledge. Interment will follow at Wacousta Cemetery, Watertown Twp., Clinton Co. The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with a Masonic Service to begin at 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan.

Marguerite Eleanor May Schirmer

Marguerite Eleanor May Schirmer, 84, died Wednesday June 29, 2005. Graveside services 2 p.m. July 6 at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel.

Clement “Clem” J. Thelen

Clement “Clem” J. Thelen died June 30, 2005, at the age of 91. Born in Fowler on August 25, 1913, the son of Louis G. and Mary C. (Wieber) Thelen. He was a retired farmer, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo and the Knights of Columbus. Clem married Mary Ann Miller in Pewamo on June 14, 1938 and she preceded him in death on October 7, 1993.

Surviving are four sons, Bruce (Katie) Thelen of Pewamo, Vern (Kathy) Thelen of Grand Ledge, Mike (Linda) Thelen of Florida and Louie Thelen of Ionia, three daughters, Karen (Bob) Swanson of Florida, June (Larry) Thelen of Westphalia and Ann Gross of Portland, 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, one brother, Claude (Bonnie) Thelen, three sisters, Florence Becker, Leona Kloeckner and Lucille Fox and brother-in-law, Roy Harr. In addition to his wife, Mary Ann, he was preceded in death by his parents, son, Lloyd Thelen, son-in-law, Tony Gross, two brothers, Jerome and Marvin Thelen and sister, Arlene Harr.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 2, 2005 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 106 E. St., Pewamo, burial at St. Joseph Cemetery with the Rev. Fr. Charon Mason officiating. The family will receive friends 2-9 P.M. Friday at the Goerge Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 11112 W. Ionia St., Fowler with a vigil service 8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to St. Joseph Educational Trust Fund.
