Mitchell C. Das

das_mitchel.jpg (4990 bytes)Mitchell C. Das died December 6, 2005, at the age of 83. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on December 29, 1921. He was an insurance salesman for AFLAC, one of the original owners of Tri-Ami Bowling Lanes and owner of Mitchell’s Market, a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II, a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, was active with the Ovid Lions Club concession wagon, V.F.W. Post #8964, American Legion Post #502 and the Knights of Columbus. Mitchell married Joann Hubbard in St. Johns in December 1983 and she survives him.

Also surviving are his children, Michele Ivan of Midland, Dave (Barb) Das of California and Sidney (Garry) Bernath of Elsie, step daughters, Ruthann (Mark) Dubiel of California and Bobette (Bill) Hostein of Ada, four grandchildren, eight step grandchildren, one great grandson and four step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Das, two step sons, John Hubbard and Ben Hubbard and step daughter, Merijo Wieber.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 9, 2005 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 620 N. Mabbit Rd., Ovid, burial at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Fr. Raymond Urbanek officiating. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Wednesday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Houghton Chapel of the Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak St., Ovid and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. A rosary will be prayed at 6 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the Leader Dogs for the Blind or Holy Family Catholic Church.

Alberta V. Stauffer

stauffer_alberta.jpg (4231 bytes)Alberta V. Stauffer, 72, of DeWitt , passed away December 5, 2005. Alberta was born on November 4, 1933 in Greenville, MI, the daughter of Earl and Lenore (Wall) Fralick. She was a volunteer for Social Services and the Boy Scouts, loved to sew and do needlepoint and collecting dolls. She married Mel Stauffer on June 7, 1952 in Greenville and they have celebrated 53 years of marriage together.

Surviving besides her husband Mel are children, Linda Romero of Ft. Worth, TX, Tom Stauffer of Pickney, MI, Dan (Martha) Stauffer of Seattle, WA and Jeff Stauffer of DeWitt, MI, her grandchildren and great grandchildren and one sister Zelda Marie Spry of Greenville. She was preceded in death by her son, Richard Scott Stuaffer and one sister, Earla Maye Fralick.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M., Thursday, December 8, 2005 at the Osgood Funeral Homee, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns with Pastor Greg Stauffer officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7-9 P.M. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice.

Ruth L. Kuechenmeister

Ruth L. Kuechenmeister, 93, of St. Johns formerly of Blissfield, died December 5, 2005.

There will be no services or visitation.  The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Home.

Vera E. Tremblay

tremblay_vera.jpg (5098 bytes)Vera E. Tremblay, of Ovid, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the age of 91. She was born December 6, 1913 in Flushing Township, MI the daughter of William Arthur and Elizabeth Ellen (Coffman) Jones. She was a member of the United Church of Ovid, a former 9 yr. member of the Ovid Public School Board, and the Shiawassee String Group. Vera married Cyril E. Tremblay on June 16, 1937 in Swartz Creek, MI and he preceded her in death May 20, 2004.

She is survived by her two children, Gary (Kaoru) Tremblay of St. Johns and Ruth Ann (Page) Hilton of Saginaw, four grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A. M. Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at the United Church of Ovid, 131 W. Front, Ovid with the Rev. Rob McPherson officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak Street, Ovid and one hour prior to the service at the Church. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorial to the United Church of Ovid.

Janet K. Prince

prince_janet.jpg (5175 bytes)Janet K. Prince,  Westphalia , MI Age 62, passed away in Lansing, December 4, 2005. Janet was born July 3, 1943 in Lansing, MI to Bernard and Ruth (nee McConnell) Ledford. She was a retired State of Michigan employee and member of the Eagle Wesleyan Chapel. Beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Prince who passed away March 16, 2003.

Loving mother of Dawn (Jeff) Simons and Mark Prince both of Lansing. Grandmother of Eric Skusa, Joseph Sholl, and Shaun Prince. Sister of Ronald (LuAnn) Ledford of Gladwin. Niece of Bill and Jackie Saxon of Montana and Bill McConnell of Missouri.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 7, 2005, 2:00 p.m. at Holihan-Atkin Funeral Home, Grand Ledge with the Reverend Stephen J. Burkhart officiating. Interment to follow at North Eagle Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be given to Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice 500 Cascade W. S.E. Grand Rapids, MI 49546.

Donald E. Hatfield

Donald E. Hatfield age 75 of Ovid, Michigan died Friday, December 2, 2005 at his home. A Memorial Service will be held at Flint Memorial Park in the spring.

Donald was born in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on October 5, 1930 the son of Mernie and Grace ( Chaffee ) Hatfield. He graduated from Aldephine Academy, Flint, MI and resided most of his life in the Flint area until 1984 when he moved to the Ovid Area. Donald married Jacqueline Hogan in 1947. She died in 1983. He then married Ernestine Everts on November 23, 1984. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. Donald worked as a Production Supervisor for Chevrolet in Flint. He retired in 1973. He then owned and operated Hatfield Point Standard Station in Flint, MI. He also worked for Johnson Control, retiring from there in 1990. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #127 and the American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Ernestine Hatfield of Ovid, MI, daughter Peggy & Kevin Collins of Fenton, MI, son Ken & Lori Hatfield of Dewitt, MI, 2 step-sons Ernie Everts of Elsie, MI, David & Jalaine Everts of Durand, MI, 2 step-daughters Sally Wilson of Ovid, MI, Connie & Walter Sloan of Arizona, 18 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and brother Jack & Sharon Hatfield of Florida. He was predeceased by his parents.

Memorials may be made to Sparrow Hospice Program. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Lawrence A. Binger

Lawrence A. Binger, 94 or rural Owosso died Dec. 1, 2005. He was born on April 20, 1911 in Middlebury Twp. the son of Henry and Lora Richards Binger. Lawrence was a farmer and had never married. He had greatly enjoyed the gas and steam engine meets around the area, especially the Old Gas Tractor Meet of rural Oakley.

He is survived by his niece Ione Rasmussen of Owosso; a great nephew, Randy and Marilyn Rasmussen; a great niece Gayle and Louis Vassilakos; great great nieces and nephews, Trevor, Nicholas, Malia, Tia, Leah and Jerry. He was peceded in death by his parents, sisters, Edna and Dorothy, brother Harry and great nephew Tom Rasmussen.
