Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Audie Clarimont will officiate with burial at Riverside Cemetery Elsie, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 5 and Friday, January 6 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Kerry was born in Owosso, MI on June 19, 1947 the son of Carl and Joyce ( Woodard ) Reed. He resided most of his life in the Elsie area and graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1965. Kerry married Debra LaClair on December 28, 2002 in Chapin, Michigan. He was the owner of Reed Construction Company. He enjoyed sports, and hunting and fishing. He was a member of the North American Hunters Club, and a member of Greater Lansing Area Sports Hall of Fame.

He is survived by his wife Debra Reed of Bannister, MI, 5 daughters; Michelle and Tony Rodriguez of Ovid, MI, Amanda Reed of Ashley, MI, Jerri Kay and Jeff Good of Barnsville, GA, Krisie and Louis Hendershot of Marion Springs, MI, Angela Kelley of Ovid, MI, one son Chad and Richelle Deming of Vassar, MI, 16 grandchildren, 2 sisters; Mary Lu and Robert Boettger of St. Johns, MI, Lydia and Ron Pattison of St. Johns, MI, mother Joyce and Bill Curtis of Mesa, AZ, and step-mother Frances Reed of St. Ignace, MI. He was predeceased by his father, and one  brother Lester.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Fred P. Sykora

sykora_fred.jpg (3990 bytes)Fred P. Sykora age 87 of St. Johns, Michigan died Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at the Laurels of Fulton, in Perrinton, Michigan.

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 1:00 PM. Pastor Charles Krueger will officiate with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery St. Johns, Michigan. Visitation will be Thursday, January 5, 2005 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Fred was born in St. Johns, Michigan on May 16, 1918 the son of Joseph and Mary ( Poborsky ) Sykora. He resided most of his in St. Johns, Michigan. On August 6, 1944 Fred married Emily Mosne in St. Johns, Michigan. Fred served in the U.S. Army during WWII where he was wounded and received a purple heart. He had worked for Diamond Reo in Lansing, Michigan and was a farmer, and had also worked for the St. Johns Co-op. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a woodworker who enjoyed making wooden crafts. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren.

Fred was a member of the ZCBJ Lodge #225 in Bannister and the VFW Post #4113 in St. Johns, Michigan.

Survivors include his wife, Emily M. Sykora of St. Johns, Michigan, one daughter, Delana (Dee) and Charles Lewis of Saline, Michigan, one son, Dennis and Donita Sykora of St. Johns, Michigan, 3 grandchildren, Denise M. Sykora of Lansing, Michigan, Michael A. Sykora of St.Johns, Michigan, Chad B. Lewis of Saline, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents, 2 sisters; Mary Dean, Helen Henney, and 2 brothers; Joseph and James Sykora.

Memorial may be made to the Great Lakes Hospice or a Charity of the Donor's Choice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel.

Kimberly “Kim” Kay Paksi

paksi_kim.jpg (9977 bytes)Kimberly “Kim” Kay Paksi died January 2, 2006, at the age of 44. Born in St. Johns on November 19, 1961, the daughter of Richard and Patricia (Stevens) Paksi. She was a manager in the Hazardous Waste Division for the State of Michigan, was active in 4-H as a leader, volunteered at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Admitting, and was a Girl Scout in her youth.

Surviving are her mother, Patricia Paksi of St. Johns and brother, Craig Paksi of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Paksi and grandparents, Loyal and Hazel Stevens, and Violet and Joe Paksi.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 5, 2006 at the Osgood Funeral Home with burial at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 P.M. Tuesday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Clinton Memorial Hospital.

Alma Bettie Brzak

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor William Stites will officiate with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Louis, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 6-8 P.M. and Wednesday 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Alma was born in Saginaw County, Michigan on April 23, 1934 the daughter of James and Helen ( Podolak ) Cermak. She grew up in Bannister and has been a lifelong resident of St. Louis after her marriage. She attended Bannister, Michigan country schools. Alma married Charles K. Brzak in Bannister, Michigan on November 18, 1950, Charles died April 2, 1995. Alma worked as a cook at the AandW Restaurant in Alma, Michigan for 30 years. She organized and ran the kitchen duties for Bingo at the VFW Post. In St. Louis, Michigan where she was an active and lifetime member of the auxiliary. She loved to play bingo and was an avid baseball fan. Alma cherished her grandchildren and her great granddaughter.

She is survived by 1 daughter Kathy and Pete Cairns of Lansing, Michigan, 1 son Bob and Kathy Brzak of Midland, Michigan, 4 grandchildren; Brandon and Nicole Piotrowski of Caro, Michigan, Christopher Brzak of Midland, Michigan, Adam Brzak of Midland, Michigan, Cory Brzak of Midland, Michigan, 1 great granddaughter Mercedes Lynn Piotrowski, 4 sisters; Mary and Gordon Mead of Elsie, Michigan, Bertha Kuchar of Henderson, Michigan, Anna Lockwood of Ovid, Michigan, Mildred Eberle of Howard City, Michigan and special friends Garth and Linda MacLaren of Ithaca, Michigan. She was predeceased by her parents, and 3 brothers, Joseph, Jim, and Frank Cermak.

Memorials may be made to the St. Louis VFW Ladies Auxiliary. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Louis Chapel.

Jerry L. Bunting

bunting.jpg (3542 bytes)Jerry L. Bunting, age 36, died Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Memorial Health Care, Owosso where he had been a resident of the Fifth Floor Long Term Care Unit for two years. Jerry was born September 10, 1969 in Owosso to Terry and Linda (Grice) Bunting and his goal in life, regardless of his struggle, was to make others laugh.

Jerry is survived by his mother, Linda (Shane) VanCise of Owosso and father, Terry Bunting of Shepherd; one brother, Troy Bunting of Owosso, one sister, Tammy (Bill) Parmenter of Ovid; one niece, Bryannajo Parmenter; one nephew, Billy Parmenter; two step-sisters, Crystal and Cassey VanCise, grandmother, Hildred Bunting; and great grandmothers, Bertha Robertson and Donna Harris and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2006 at the First Church of God, 2100 N. M52, Owosso with Pastor John Miller, Pastor of First Church of God and Pastor John Walworth, Chaplain of Memorial Health Care officiating. The family will receive friends at the Houghton Chapel of Osgood Funeral Homes, 232 E. Oak Street, Ovid Tuesday 2:00 - 4:00 and 6:00 - 8:00 PM and Wednesday one hour prior to Service at the Church. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Fifth Floor Long Term Care of Memorial Health Care.

Richard King Terrell

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, January 2, 2006 at 11:00 A.M at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Pastor Diane Gordon will officiate with burial at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Saturday December 31, 2005 from 6-8 P.M. and Sunday January 1, 2006 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

King was born in Bannister, Michigan on January 21, 1920 the son of William R. and Frances M. ( King ) Terrell. He resided all of his life in Bannister on the family farm and graduated from Elsie High School with the class of 1940. King married Lillian Mae Ensign on November 5, 1945 at the Bannister United Methodist Church, Lillian died March 9, 1993. He was a retired farmer, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing solitaire, cutting wood and riding his quad. King was a member of the Marion Springs Conservation Club.

He is survived by 2 sons; Patrick and Susan Terrell of Bannister, Michigan, Chris Terrell of Bannister, Michigan, 2 grandchildren; Christa Terrell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Ryan Terrell of Bannister, Michigan, and 1 sister Maxine Kremer of Ashley, Michigan. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, and 1 brother Allen Kaye Terrell.
