Minnie M. “Babe” Becker

Minnie M. “Babe” Becker died March 1, 2006 at the age of 81. Arrangements pending at Osgood Funeral Home.

Sharon L. Jorae

jorae_sharon.jpg (5343 bytes)Sharon L. Jorae passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the age of 46. She was born March 14, 1959 in St. Johns the daughter of Larry and Joyce (Simon) Karber and lived all her life in the St. Johns area. Sharon was a graduate of St. Johns High School, Class of 1977 and attended Northwood University and Lansing Community College. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served on the St. Joseph Parish Council. She was an accountant with the Gratiot-Isabella RESD and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Sharon married Daniel Jorae on August 25, 1979 and he survives her.

Also surviving is a daughter, Danielle of St. Johns; two sons, Brad (Kristina) of East Lansing and Kyle at home; her mother, Joyce Karber of St. Johns; two sisters, Janis (Jerry) Terrebrood of Ozark, MO, Julie Karber of St. Johns; two brothers, Dean (Carol) Karber of St. Johns, John (Kathleen) Karber of Williamston. She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Karber and a sister Karen.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Saturday, March 4, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy, as Celebrant. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Thursday and 2-4 and 6-8 pm Friday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422. A vigil service will be held 7:30 pm Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.

Sarah “Sally” Bouchey

bouchey_sarah.jpg (5321 bytes)Sarah “Sally” Bouchey died February 27, 2006 at the age of 91. Born in Gratiot County, Michigan on September 7, 1914 the daughter of Peter and Regina (Ruppel) Repphun. She graduated from Ithaca High School and was a member of First Baptist Church and the Sr. Club. Sally married Art Bouchey at Youth Haven Ranch in June of 1973, and he survives her.

Also surviving are children, Sarah Smith of Holt, Janice (Roger) Crowell of St. Johns, Joanne “Jo” (Tom) Glinke of Maple Rapids, eleven grandchildren, several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willis Berkhousen, daughter, Marty Duflo and eleven brothers and sisters.

Funeral Services will be held, 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 3, 2006 at the First Baptist Church, 512 S. Whittemore St., St. Johns, with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating, burial at Mt. Rest. The family will receive friends at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, on Thursday, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Youth Haven Ranch, P.O. Box 97, Rives Junctions, MI, 49277.

Doris Jean Strouse

Doris Jean Strouse Laingsburg , MI, age 72 died on Sunday, February 26, 2006 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital in St. Johns. Funeral services will be on Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Watkins Brothers Funeral Home in Laingsburg with Pastor Gerald Sever Jr. officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Reed Cemetery. Memorials can be made to Laingsburg 4-H Horse Club or Laingsburg Sports Boosters.

Doris was born on May 14, 1933 in St. Johns, MI to Raymond and Mertle (Whittney) Ketchum. She graduated from Laingsburg High School and was a 4-H leader. She married Donald Strouse on May 22, 1950 in Angola, IN; he died in 1996. She worked at Clinton Bank of Laingsburg and also at Spearbecker Processing.

She is survived by three children, Bruce (Jenny) Strouse of Stanton, Ronald (Linda) Strouse of Laingsburg and Randy (Stacey) Strouse of Laingsburg; five grandchildren, Tammy, Troy, Steve, Katie and Little Randy; one brother, Nelson (Doris) Ketchum of Eagle; and a sister, Rayola Lane of Laingsburg. She was preceded in death by a brother, Elwin.

Bruce, Cathy, Steven, and Jessica Lindauer

On February 23, 2006, Bruce, Cathy, Steven, and Jessica Lindauer perished in a fire that destroyed the family home. Bruce George Lindauer was born April 2, 1954 in Owosso, Michigan the son of Floyd and Virginia ( Trumble ) Lindauer. He graduated from Ovid-Elsie with the class of 1972. Bruce was predeceased by his father.

Cathy Lynn Lindauer was born on November 11, 1954 in St. Johns, Michigan the daughter of Bruce and Edna McDiarmid. She graduated from Ovid-Elsie with the class of 1973. Bruce and Cathy were married December 1, 1973 in Owosso, Michigan. They owned and operated a dairy farm in the Elsie area.

Steven Carl Lindauer, Bruce and Cathy’s only son was born on May 7, 1977 in Owosso, Michigan. He was a 1995 graduate of Ovid-Elsie. Steven was the owner and operator of Superior Lawn Care.

Jessica Marie Lindauer, Bruce and Cathy’s youngest daughter was born on April 19, 1988 in Owosso, Michigan. She was a junior at Ovid-Elsie High School where she was a member of band and choir. All were members of Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church of Owosso, Michigan.

They are survived by daughter and sister Marty and Ron Kailbourne of Eureka, Michigan, granddaughter and niece Ashley, Bruce’s mother Virginia Lindauer of Elsie, Michigan, sister Carolyn and Greg Putzig and niece Renata of Blanchard, Michigan, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, Cathy’s parents are Bruce and Edna McDiarmid of Ovid, Michigan, sister Donna and Tony Willett of Owosso, Michigan, brother Jay McDiarmid of Ionia, MI, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Owosso, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2006 from 2-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Riverside Cemetery, Elsie, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.  The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homess, Elsie Chapel.

Irene A. Gruesbeck

gruesbeck_irene.jpg (3832 bytes)Irene A. Gruesbeck, 85 of Ovid, died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006 at Memorial Healthcare Center. Irene was born on May 2, 1920 in Morrice, MI the daughter of Charlie and Lena Piper Brown. Irene graduated from Morrice High School in 1938 and on Jan. 11, 1945 she married Vaun Gruesbeck in Morrice, MI. She had worked at Redmonds in Owosso then became a homemaker. Irene loved her family and her grandchildren, gardening and baking, especially baking peach pies.

She is survived by husband Vaun, 2 sons Larry V. and Kathy Gruesbeck and Dennis and Marge Gruesbeck both of Ovid; a daughter, Ardith and Rick Mulder of Ovid, 14 grandchildren 16 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Charlotte Grinnell of Perry, MI. She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Wade.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 224-4422 on Monday, Feb. 27, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Middlebury Cemetery.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, 6-8 P.M. and Sunday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan, on Saturday, February 25, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. and Rosary will be prayed on Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel. Burial will take place at Ford Cemetery, Gratiot County, Michigan, Rev. Fr. Wolfgang Streichardt will officiate and visitation will be Friday 4-8 P.M. at Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Stephanie was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 29, 1913, the daughter of Stephan and Rose ( Rajec ) Stefanek and resided most of her life in the Bannister, Michigan area. She was a member of St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Bannister, Michigan, she had worked at the church for many years doing various jobs.

Survivors include, special friends, David and JoAnn Fogarty of Elsie, Michigan, Phil and Sheila Hanus of Ashley, Michigan, 1 sister in law, Jean Stefanek of Bannister, Michigan, several nieces and nephews and her St. Cyril’s family where her church was her life. She was predeceased by her parents, 4 brothers, Thomas, Joseph, John, Edward. Memorial can be made to the St. Cyril's Altar Society in her memory. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, Elsie Chapel.

Clarence E. “Bud” Shinn

Funeral Services will be held at Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns Chapel on Friday, February 24, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. Pastors Merlin and Kay Pratt will officiate with burial at Duplain Township Cemetery, Duplain Township, Michigan. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2006 from 2-8 P.M. with family present 2-4 and 6-8 P.M.

Clarence was born on April 12, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan the son of Clarence Earl and Dora ( Goasbeek ) Shinn Sr. He resided in St. Johns, Michigan for the past 40 years and graduated from St. Johns High School with the class of 1956. Clarence married Judith E. Avery in Chase, Michigan on January 3, 1959. He was a retired truck mechanic for the Anchor Motor Freight Company of Lansing, MI. He also worked for Bancroft Plastering. He loved to spend time with his grandchildren and hunting and fishing. Clarence was a member of the Sleepy Hollow Conservation Club.

He is survived by his wife Judy Shinn of St. Johns, MI, 2 daughters; Cori and Kirk Gartside of St. Johns, MI, Melanie and Eric Thum of St. Johns, MI, grandsons; Trent, Kevin, Chad, and Kurt, 2 sisters; Betty Hall of St. Johns, MI, Barbara Waggoner of Lansing, MI, 2 brothers; Robert and Diane Shinn of Ovid, MI, Bill and Kathy Shinn of Idlewild, MI, special friends Jill and Everett Thornton and their children Alex, Nichole, and Janel of St. Johns, MI. He was predeceased by his parents, and son Anthony.

Memorials may be made to Pilgrim United Methodist Church, or Great Lakes Hospice. The family is being served by Smith Family Funeral Homes, St. Johns, Chapel.

Regina Dorothy Schmitt

Regina Dorothy Schmitt Westphalia, MI Age 91, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2006. She was born on April 2, 1914 in Dallas Township, MI the daughter of Joseph and Ida (Feldpausch) Koenigsknecht. Mrs. Schmitt was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Westphalia, a member of the Christian Mothers, and a member of the Catholic Order of Forresters. Regina loved her grandchildren and she enjoyed word searches, M & Ms and scrapbooking. She married Isidore "Izzy" Schmitt on February 15, 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1995. She was also preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ann Schmitt and Frances Koenigsknecht; brothers, Joseph Koenigsknecht and Anthony Koenigsknecht; and several sisters and brothers-in-law.

Surviving are her children, Gerald (Evelyn) Schmitt of Westphalia, Richard (Bonnie) Schmitt of Lansing, Ruth Doepker of Owosso and Jean (James) Klein of Portland; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Veronica Pohl of Pewamo and Irene Harr of Fowler; brother, Alfred Koenigsknecht of Fowler; brother-in-law, Anthony (Beverly) Schmitt of Lansing; and sisters-in-law, Clara Wirth and Mary Spitzley, both of Westphalia.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Cecilio Reyna, Pastor at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 25, 2006 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. A Rosary will be prayed at 3 p.m. Friday and a Scriptural Wake Service held at 8 p.m. Friday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Al Miller Trust Fund, in memory of Mrs. Schmitt. Complete arrangements are entrusted to the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, Portland.
