Roberta J. Morrill

morrill_roberta.jpg (4817 bytes)Roberta J. Morrill, 73 died Tuesday, March 07, 2006 at her home, following a cancer illness. She was surrounded by her family. She was born Jan. 28, 1933 in South Riley, MI the daughter of Robert A. and Dortha M. (Stevens) White. Roberta graduated from DeWitt High School in 1951 and on May 23, 1959 she married Richard L. Morrill in DeWitt. She enjoyed taking care of her family, gardening, and being a spectator for her grandchildren’s extra curricular activities.

Survived by her husband Richard, 2 sons, Geary and Nancy Morrill of Kalamazoo and Glenn and LouAnn Morrill of Laingsburg; 3 daughters, Brenda and John Bilton of Berrien Springs, Paula and Tim Palmatier of Perry and Glenna Fay and Andy Waters of Bath; grandchildren Mara, Mandi and Madison Waters, Travis and Brittany Morrill, Chris and Megan Palmatier, Jaclyn Bilton, Jeniffer (Mick) Hoeflinger, John (Jill) Bilton, Geary Morrill II and Erin (Kevin) Moore; great-grandchildren, Makenna Carrington and Jaylyn Hoeflinger; 3 sisters Marjorie and Dennis Thelen of Westphalia, Ruth and Donald Peterson of Waters, MI and Janis DeGeer of DeWitt and sister-in-law, Jeanette Baese of Ovid.

Funeral services will be held at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns, 989-224-4422 on Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with her son Geary officiating. Burial will follow at Reed Cemetery, Laingsburg, MI. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening 6-8 P.M. and Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan/Hospice.

Genevieve "Gen" Drouin

Genevieve "Gen" Drouin formerly of DeWitt, MI Genevieve "Gen" Alma Drouin, loving wife and mother, passed away March 5, 2006 at Pennock Hospital surrounded by her family after a long illness. She was 87 years old. Born January 27, 1919 in Berlin, WI, she was the daughter of Frank and Pearl (Chaffin) Hunt. She graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, WI in 1941 with a medical technology degree. She worked as a chemist and bacteriologist for American Home Products Corp., in Mason, MI following her graduation. She married Robert Drouin on July 14, 1945 and moved to Lansing where she was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Girl Scout Leader, bridge player, and homemaker. In 1972, she moved to DeWitt, MI where she played an active role in helping to establish the Community of St. Jude Catholic Church.

She was Director of the Clinton County Commission on Aging as well as serving on the Board of the Michigan State Commission on Aging. She also worked for Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes in DeWitt and Lansing. She moved to Hastings in October 2005 after residing for 33 years in DeWitt, MI.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Robert; two daughters, Kathy LaVictor of Hastings and Patricia (George) Strother of Denville, NJ; and one son, Dennis (Diane) of Saginaw, MI. She was a parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday, March 9, 11:00 a.m. at the Catholic Community of St. Jude, 801 N. Bridge, DeWitt, MI. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 107 Aprill Drive, Suite 1, Ann Arbor, MI 48103-1903 or the Catholic Community of St. Jude. The family is being served by the Gorsline-Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing.

Nicholas L. Koenigsknecht

k13_nick.jpg (3737 bytes)Nick L. Koenigsknecht passed away Monday, March 6, 2006 at the age of 82. He was born May 9, 1923 in Fowler the son of Nicholas and Margaret (Thelen) Koenigsknecht and lived all his life in the Fowler and St. Johns area. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in St. Johns, an honorary life member of the St. Johns K of C, and enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching them participate in sporting events. He was a farmer and an auto salesman.

Nick married Marge Stay on February 28, 1949, and she survives him. Also surviving are five daughters, Janet (Michael) Sinke, Sue (Bob) Rehmann, Connie (Kurt) Conley, all of St. Johns, Mary (Mark) Geller of Indianapolis, IN, Karen (Doug) Lawrence of Vero Beach, FL; three sons, Ron (Darlene) of FL, Gary (Lynne) of NC, Nick (Rita) of Battle Creek; 26 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; four sisters, Rosie Smith of Jackson, Louise Burns of Hubbardston, Agnes Keilen of Westphalia, Susie Stump of St. Johns and three brothers, Frank of FL, Roman of Fowler, Benno of Jackson. He was preceded in death by a son, Gerard; five brothers, Leo, Arnold, Mark, John, and Fr. William; and two sisters, Martha Koenigsknecht and Helen Stump.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 am Thursday, March 9, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 Linden, St. Johns with Rev. Fr. William J. Koenigsknecht and Rev. Fr. Eoin Murphy, Pastor, as Con- Celebrants. Rite of Committal will follow at Mt. Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Tuesday and 2-4 and 6-8 pm Wednesday at Keck-Coleman Funeral Home, St. Johns 989-224-4422 with a Vigil Service at 7:30 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Dorothy M. Barnard,  92, died Sunday. Services 1 p.m. Wednesday at Eastlawn Cemetery Chapel, Okemos. Arrangements by Estes-Leadley Greater Lansing Chapel.

Art Bouchey

bouchey_art.jpg (4270 bytes)Art Bouchey, age 98, died Sunday, March 5, 2006. He was born August 29, 1907, in Saginaw, MI, Art was the son of Gilbert and Hattie (Horning) Bouchey. Art married Leona Irene Cook in 1926, was the founder of Bouchey Monument Company and a member of First Baptist Church of St. Johns.

Art and Leona were blessed with three children and four grandchildren, Harlan (Alice) Bouchey of St. Johns and their children, Randy (Denise) and Cheryl Bouchey, Jack (Marian) Bouchey of Ithaca and their daughter, Barbara (Roger) Litwiller, and Jo Ann Green and her daughter, Linda (Steve) Lewandowski. He is also survived by seven great grandchildren. Following the untimely death of Leona on June 12,1972, Art married Sarah "Sally" (Repphun) Berkhousen in June 1973 and she had four children, Sarah Smith of Holt, Janice (Roger) Crowell of St. Johns, Joanne "Jo" Glinke (Tom) of Maple Rapids and Mary Duflo, 11 grandchildren and many great and great-great grandchildren. Art was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Leona, three brothers, four sisters, his wife, Sarah "Sally" and Sally’s daughter, Mary Duflo.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Thursday, March 9, 2006 at First Baptist Church of St. Johns 512 South Business U S 27 with Pastor Tim Knaus officiating. Interment will be 2:30 PM at Ithaca Cemetery, Ithaca. The family will receive friends at Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass Street, St. Johns, MI Wednesday 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 PM and one hour prior to the service at Church. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Youth Haven Ranch, P.O. Virginia Fay (Black) Zigler

zigler_v.jpg (10066 bytes)Virginia Fay Zigler, died Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the age of 80. Born September 23, 1925 in St. Johns, MI to George W. and Marita (Zigler) Black, Virginia was a very loving and talented wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister. Virgina had a desire to help others in need that led to her being a volunteer at the Kalkaska County Commission on Aging assisting in U. S. Flag protocol lowering the flag to half staff in memory of a fallen soldier and chaired many holiday dinners for local seniors and she was a Birthday Caller for the United Way. Virginia's talents were shown through her hooked rugs, which is now almost a lost art, and her crocheting and knitting for her family and friends. She always desired to improve herself and taught herself sign language and loved to write poems, some which were published locally.

On December 19, 1944, Virginia married Charles Linden Zigler at the First United Methodist Church of St. Johns and together they raised three children; a daughter, Sue (Robert) Shinabery of Perrinton, two sons, Mike (Nancy) Zigler of St. Johns and Roger Zigler of Perrinton. Virginia is also survived by four grandchildren, Tom (Lynn) Shinabery of Rockville, MD, Tim Shinabery of Deerfield Beach, FL, Todd (Karen) Shinabery of Twin Lake, MI and Nathan Zigler of St. Johns; one great granddaughter, Eva Isabel Shinabery and one sister, Nancy (Leonard) Puetz of Waterloo, IA, sister-in-law, Janette Matter of St. Johns and many nieces and nephews. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Charles on April 30, 1977, her parents and a brother, George Black.

In her memory a Memorial Service will be held in Kalkaska, MI at a time to be announced. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to Munson Hospice House, 11054 Sixth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684 or Kalkaska County Commission on Aging, 303 S. Coral Street, P.O. Box 28, Kalkaska, MI 49646 in her memory. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Homes.

Diane E. Horning

horning_diane.jpg (4237 bytes)Diane E. Horning Lansing, MI Age 50, passed away at her home on March 2, 2006 following a courageous battle with cancer. Born August 6, 1955 in St. Johns, MI. Diane loved all children, but most of all she loved her grandson, nieces, and nephews. She enjoyed many arts and crafts, but her greatest joy was being with family. Diane was preceded in death by her mother, Monica I. Schneider in 1999.

Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Mike Horning; her daughters, Lisa Horning and Kristin Horning; her grandson, Spencer Horning; father, Edgar (Betty) Schneider; 3 sisters and brother, Linda Richards, Audrey (Greg) Hoffman, Julia (Matt) Gaffney and David Schneider; mother-in-law, Sue Thornton; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Liturgy is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 4, in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, with Fr. John P. Klein of St. Gerard Church presiding. Rite of Committal St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation is from 2-4, 6-8 p.m. Friday (Today) with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Rosary at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association in memory of Diane.

Doris M. Boog

Doris M. Boog died March 1, 2006 at the age of 79. Born in Bannister on April 14, 1926, the daughter of Ernest and Elsie (Anderson) Boog, Sr. She was an officer for Ransom Fidelity and R.E. Olds Company.

Surviving are her sister and best friend, Betty Martin of Mason, brothers, Carl E. (Ada Mae) Boog of Bannister, Stanley P. Boog of Flint, Harold D. Boog of Bannister and Michael D. (Marjorie) Boog of Fowler, special niece, Elizabeth Martin, many other nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law, Martha Boog, Betty Boog and Catherine Boog. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Ernest Boog, Jr., Robert C. Boog and Dale E. Boog.

There will be a memorial service at a later date. Sympathy may be expressed in the form of memorials to the Michigan Library for the Blind. The family is being served by the Osgood Funeral Home.

Minnie M. “Babe” Becker

becker_minnie.jpg (4300 bytes)Minnie M. “Babe” Becker died March 1, 2006 at the age of 81. She was born on June 3, 1924 in Reed City. Minnie was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed needlepoint and her family. She married Hubert Becker on February 8, 1943 and he survives her.

Also surviving are two daughters, Patricia Vallin of St. Johns and Marilyn Miller of Holt; three grandchildren, Al “Dude” Vallin of St. Johns, Marlin (Pam) Miller of Maple Rapids, and Melissa (Rudy) Gauna of DeWitt; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Donald (Lil) Jackson of Cadillac and Walter Decker of Florida; and her sister, Viola Mekoff of McBain. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Howard Decker, and one sister Laura Decker.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, March 4, 2006 at the Osgood Funeral Home, 104 E. Cass St., St. Johns, MI, with Elder James Newell officiating.
